JACK'S IS BEST!!! It's unbelievable -- the mail order is very good too, but not quite as awesome as on site.

I'm from Jersey and I have to say that since it is the end of summer all I can think about is fresh Jersey corn and tomatoes.

Amen to that. I used to live about three minutes from the Jersey border and the farm stands there had the best tomatoes and corn in the world.

I love the BIG E ...I grew up in Springfield and going to the BIG E every year is just sort of my tradition (if I do happen to miss a year , I don't worry since it never seems to change much) My favorite thing to do is "sample" some of the foods in each of the State Buildings.....I love the Clam Fritters in the Rhode Island Bldg. and the Maine Blueberry pies !!!

We were at the Big E on Friday. The clam fritters in the Rhode Island building were great! DH had the clam chowder in the bread bowl, he said it was good. The line for the Maine baked potato was very, very long.......

I am living 2000 miles away from my hometown in NM, and I am JONESING for:
The Frontier Roll (the best cinnamon roll on the planet)
A Green Chile cheese burger (from Blake's)
Enchiladas (With cheese and Red Chile, and/or with chicken, cheese and Green Chile)
Fried potatoes with Red Chile and cheese and an egg on top
Green Chile stew with fresh tortillas (not those thousand year old things you find at the Stop-n-Shop)
Real, slow cooked pinto beans with onions, garlic and, yup, Green Chile
Stuffed Sopaipillas (Little delicious puffed pillows of fried dough stuffed with beef, beans, or chicken, etc)
Plain Sopaipillas (no stuffin') with honey

This is a fun, and yet torturous thread!

I am so amazed that no one from Iowa has posted yet. You can't beat our corn on the cob and Iowa Pork Chops. This year the Beef Assoc. did a hot beef sundae which was pretty good. It was roast beef topped with mashed potatoes, gravy, shredded cheese, and a grape tomato on top. It was good but I still don't think you can beat at Iowa Chop.

There must be a reason so many people from Louisiana have answered. . .we love to eat! My DD9 says that a crawfish boil with the onions, corn, and potatoes is the best. The corn has to be good & spicey so that your lips tingle. You have to start the day with a good cup of community coffee. . .if you're from the Southern part of the state you have to have it with a little chicory. You might want to add a little bread pudding with rum sauce at the end of your meal. The bread pudding has to be made with day old French Bread.
Our dear friend from England tells us we don't know how to make a civilized cup of tea. She is trying to train me as to when to add the milk.

Oyster po-boys with an icy cold Abita Amber.
Crawfish, potatoes and corn eaten straight off todays copy of the Advocate.

Hot french bread straight from the oven at Pouparts in Lafayette
Barbeque shrimp from Manales in New Orleans, if it's reopened.

down in the lowcountry of south carolina we have the lowcountry boil also called frogmore stew in honor of one of the islands that make up our county. no there are no frogs in it and its not a stew. what it is is shrimp,corn on the cob,kielbasa or smoked sausage(sp) and some-times red-potatoes.you put all of this in a big pot, throw in some seasoning (old bay or whatever) and boil them till they are done shrimp go in last of course. then you drain the water out and serve in a big bowl everyone picks what they want out of the bowl. we also have soft shell crab, and some people have already said sweet tea something I cant live without...I might just take my iced tea pot to Disney world with me since the FQ has a fridge in the room

I'll say it again for Maine...fresh lobstah!! Steamed, baked and stuffed, fried, lobster stew. It's the best from Maine!

Fruit - apples, pears, and cherries - gotta love those huge bings and Rainiers - yum!

Salmon - and the State Fish, Steelhead - baked, broiled, pan-fried, grilled, steamed and smoked.

Dungeoness Crab - cracked, salads, crabcakes, stuffed in fish filets, omelletes, sandwiches - love it

Oysters (not my fave, but DH loves them) When the season is in you can just walk out on the "oystering beaches" and pick them up.
