We have called numerous times now, and the staff at our hotel says our Game Boy hasn't been reported by housekeeping, so my only assumption is that it was stolen. I took it from the diaper bag and left it on the table while at the parks this past weekend, and while packing to leave, we realized it was gone. None of our children played with it while at the hotel either. The strange part was, we had 2 Nintendo DS's right next to them and they were left! (thank goodness!)
Anyone dealt with this before? I guess we're just out a "toy" at this point.

What hotel were you staying at?

We stayed at the Comfort Inn Maingate on Harbor. Apparently never again though!:confused3
I thought I'd post it on the Budget Board too, just in case anyone wanted to get rid of one, since it looks like we'll need to replace his old one.

EEK which hotel was this?

A long time ago when my daughter was about 4 months old, we were at a hotel for a family reunion anniversary thing, and I had a really nice boutique outfit with us for the party (bought by my best friend - I could never spend $75 on an outfit for a baby! lol) and when I went to get her ready, it was missing. I knew I had packed it. I looked around and noticed all kinds of baby clothes missing. I reported it to the front desk and they questioned the housekeeper, who of course denied everything. I was so upset. They was no proof I had it, and no proof she took it.
The hotel gave us a teddybear for our trouble. Wow, thanks.

I posted on your Budget Board thread as well. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

oh no, that's horrible! I'm paranoid the staff will go through our things as well, is there anything to keep them out of our suitcases?

We had bunch of stuff stolen out of one suitcase while were staying at the Candy Cane Inn in 2004 while we were at the park. Lesson learned.....valuables now go in the safe and if their is not one we have locks for all our suitcases now:thumbsup2

yeah, we've learned the hard way that we can't leave anything we care about in hotel rooms, either. we've lost a nintendo DS, and also some tooth fairy money that my DS left in the room (he lost a tooth during our trip). these were not lost at comfort inn maingate, though.

now we always put anything valuable in the car and drive it to the park with us, even if we're not going to take it into the parks.

i think comfort inn maingate is just bad news all around. i like the kids' suites, but the time we stayed there (which was for 5 days), i left with a MRSA infection that i'm almost certain i contracted from the hotel towels.

i won't ever stay there again, either.

Yikes...MRSA, so sorry to hear that! I wish I would've know all this BEFORE we stayed!

My daughter had some tooth fairy money stolen when we went to DW. We are pretty sure the housekeeper thought it was a tip. Poor daughter was so upset. She had already been stressed out because she didn't think the tooth fairy was going to be able to find her in DW. We told her the tooth fairy was pals with tinkerbell!

We had a cell phone stolen from a hotel in Vegas. It was an razor phone that we switched from a plan to pay as you go. I was sure happy that there weren't any minutes left on it.

yes, we figured the same had happened with us. except that it wasn't just a couple of bucks and should have appeared excessive for just a simple hotel tip (especially since we were staying somewhere cheap). so we went to the office to explain that the money (which i think was $20 - as the tooth fairy knew my son could use some souvenir money, lol), was my son's tooth fairy money. the housekeeper was right there and although she wouldn't speak english, it was clear she knew what we were talking about, and she wouldn't give it back. (who doesn't give a 7 year old his tooth fairy $ back?!!!)

me too! i'm sure MRSA is a concern no matter where you go when it comes to hotels because you just can't be sure that the towels and such are being properly disninfected. i just didn't know that back then (2.5 years ago). in fact, i had never even heard of MRSA before that.

as a result, hotels totally gross me out now. i think the hotel towels are the most likely culprit in my case, but we also did wash one load of clothes while we were there (there is a laundry room next to the pool). i would NEVER use a hotel washer or dryer now that i know what i know, but like i said, i had never even heard of MRSA before that. i remember that the dryer took FOREVER to dry our clothes (like 3 cycles) so it could have been that it didn't get hot enough to kill any bacteria that could have been left behind by previous hotel guests. i'll never know for sure.

Yikes :( i'm going to be buying a lock for suitcases, can't risk losing my MacBook Pro!!

There is more than one $20 bill. Just give your son another one! It's not housekeepings fault that they took the money they thought was a tip, and it's probably not uncommon for them to be left $20 tips. I do it all the time.

Ummmm CrazyDuck, I don't think that is the point. Of course there is more than one $20 note in the world but they should not have to give their son another $20 because housekeeping is a bit light-fingered.

Just because some money is in the room does not make it automatically a tip. Clearly they did not think houskeeping was worthy of a $20 tip. And if it was just a genuine mistake (housekeeping honestly thought it was a tip) then as soon as they were made aware that it wasn't then it should have been returned. Stealing is stealing and simply being a housekeeper does not make it ok.

My point was two-fold... first I hope you replaced your 7 year olds $20 and didn't make suffer because of housekeepings supposedly light fingerness. And second, it is pretty crassly to confront housekeeping over $20. It's not a lot of money and pretty typical for a tip. If you don't want to tip them then put your money away. Now if it was $200 sitting on a dresser then maybe you would have something to complain about.

I think the bottom line is it's not a good idea to leave cash or other items of value laying around when you're not in your room, if you want to ever see it again. I am sorry these kids had to learn this life lesson the hard way.

it was in a drawer. and i don't think it's all that common for people to leave $20 tips when they only spent $60 on the room, lol.

we're all very impressed that you leave $20 tips, though.
