June 6 would have been my wife's 35th birthday, and we celebrate it every year at her favourite local restaurant, Red Lobster. My son asked if we were going again this year, which got him talking about how he feels bad because he's the only boy in his class without a Mom.

I explained to him that one of my "internet friends" Kevin's Mom passed away on Mothers Day. He said that was very sad, and then gave me this advice to give to him.

"Tell him not to feel bad about feeling good. People want you to feel sad all the time when something really bad happens, but if you feel good sometimes, even by accident, don't feel like you're wrong to feel that way. My Mom liked seeing me happy, and I'm sure his Mom did too."

With all the bad stuff happening out there, a little advice from an 11 yr old sounds pretty good to me.

Precious advice from someone who knows. :goodvibes

How'd he get so smart? Great advice. Made me cry a little...

Sayhello

What a great kid. I'm sure his mom is smiling down on him and very proud. :littleangel:

What a lovely thing to say. He has obviously thought that through. Hugs to both!

Wonderful advice from a smart boy! Be very proud of him for being so insightful

I was in a crabby mood, until I read that. Tell your son thanks for making my day a bit better.

Tell Brendan that I think he's a smart guy and thank him for his advise.:)

My Mom passed on Mother's Day and at first I thought about how very sad that was, until someone gave me an amazing gift.

They told me that maybe my Mom was such a good Mom that this was her reward.

This is how I've decided to look at it.

Tell Brendan that I think we're lucky to have such awesome guardian angels and that because they are so awesome.....we can share them with everyone.

Thanks. Brendan is looking forward to meeting you on Podcasst cruise 4.0.

Paul (and Kevin), my mom's father passed on Father's Day in 1988, and she always looked at it as a gift, that maybe he was supposed to go earlier (he had Lou Gherig's Disease) and he was given that day to spend with his wife, four kids and three grandchildren.

All I can say is that it's so refreshing to hear a fine young man make a comment like that. That made tear up and I have a son myself. It sounds like something my son would say.

Congrats on raising such a wonderful young man!!!

What a wise and wonderful young man. That's good advice for all of us.

Thank you for sharing your son's insight. You have made my day!!
Many years ago a favorite aunt died suddenly. When I was trying to explain this to my children they didn't seem to get it. They seemed unaffected. When I asked them to explain it back to me one of my daughters said'---"Yes, I know Aunt Tooties's in heaven. That means she's in Disney World and doesn't have to pay the bill!"
Even though it's more years than I'd like to admit, everytime I go to WDW I find myself thinking of Toots even more ----she is there!

Well, now you did it! you made me cry. What an insightful young man!

I share a birthday with your late wife and will think of you and your family as you celebrate her on Monday!
