June 6 would have been my wife's 35th birthday, and we celebrate it every year at her favourite local restaurant, Red Lobster. My son asked if we were going again this year, which got him talking about how he feels bad because he's the only boy in his class without a Mom.
I explained to him that one of my "internet friends" Kevin's Mom passed away on Mothers Day. He said that was very sad, and then gave me this advice to give to him.
"Tell him not to feel bad about feeling good. People want you to feel sad all the time when something really bad happens, but if you feel good sometimes, even by accident, don't feel like you're wrong to feel that way. My Mom liked seeing me happy, and I'm sure his Mom did too."
With all the bad stuff happening out there, a little advice from an 11 yr old sounds pretty good to me.
