My son took his pressed pennies to school...UPDATE post 35!.

Thank you guys for your kind offers to give Jack some pennies. If it doesn't "turn up" I might take you guys up on it. I know if my child came home with something so blatantly "not his" I would return it to the school- maybe that kind of parent will find it.

If you don't hear anything about it by monday, let us know! I'm sure there are many of us on here that would love to fill his little stocking with some cool pressed pennies!!

Wow! What a great idea- if someone would be willing to pick me up a book (I'd pay for that and the shipping of course- or I could order one I bet) and some nice dis'ers set us some pennies I could tell him Santa replaced his collection!!! If it doesn't show up in the next day or so- I might take you up on this DMSlush..... :wizard:

I would be happy to help too. I am headed up next weekend and would be happy to get some pennies for Jack.

And as was said, if my child came home with something that obvioulsy was not his, I would investigate further.

I feel so awful for your little guy.

I'm wondering why the teacher could not find the pressed penny book.
In 15 years of teaching, I've had things stolen from kids only a couple of times but they were always found. As soon as a child told me he could not find his property, the kids & I would totally search the classroom. When that doesn't work, I go thru each & every backpack before the kids leave. The missing item is always found.
Works like a charm!
I wish your child's teacher had done this.

If you know who took it, can't you call his parents? My DS did this when a kid at school stole his Gameboy. I felt badly, because I had told him to just forget it, that he'd never get it back, etc. My DS called the kid's father. The Dad brought the kid over, made him hand back the Gameboy and apologize. Another year, a kid in his 8th grade class took my Ds's cell phone. We met with the school resource officer, (Police officer.) The kid who stole it had bragged to some other kids in the class. The SRO interviewed them, and then called the kid in. He confessed. It turned out that he had been stealing from other kids all year long! He had been taking lunch money from one girl repeatedly. She had been afraid to report it. Apparently, he was the "lab monitor", and had access to all of the kids' backpacks while they were out of the room somehow. Anyway, they suspended the kid for the rest of the year, (it was in the last two weeks) and my Ds got his cell phone back. The mother of this boy had no idea, and I hope they got him some help.

Hugs to Jack. I'm sorry that happened.

That's just rotten. I'm so sorry this happened to Jack.

Well, we don't have any hard evidence. I just really think that this kid took it, because he's rotten. But I/we can't do anything about it unfortunately.

We really don't know who took it. Unfortunately, my son does not have any real "friends" and many children don't care for him. Especially the other boys. He's very bright and prefers the company of adults most of the time. Really, anyone could have taken it.

Jack didn't realize the pennies were missing until I picked him up and asked him if he had brought it with him- we went to the classroom, but by then most of the children had been dismissed.

Tell Jack to keep his ears peeled for a clue as to who might have taken his collection. The way we were tipped off when my Ds lost his cell phone, was that he overheard two kids talking, and one said, "What about Chase's phone?" Most of these kids can't keep a secret very well! Good luck and let us know if we can send Jack any of our old pressed pennies. My Ds's aren't interested in them anymore, and we have a few, just sitting around.

Bumping for an update! Did anyone show up with them, or do you need us to send some?

I just got home from work and there was a message from the Principal- THEY FOUND THEM! They made an announcement yesterday morning and I'm not sure if they "found" them or a child returned them- really doesn't matter to me! I'm just so happy my son has his collection back!

Thank you all for your offers to send us pennies- my husband and I were both very appreciative of your thoughtfulness!

I'm glad he's getting them back! :goodvibes
