Last week my son was talked into going for an audition for a new movie that is being filmed in Dorchester. (MA) Chris is not an actor but is a musician and is very comfortable on stage. He got a call back to come and meet the producer. He was a bit shocked when he walked in and saw Ben Affleck. He is also directing the movie. His brother Casey is starring in it. I am still in shock over this whole scenerio. He read for Ben Affleck and was very encouraged that he may actually get a part in the movie. They apparently want some "local kids". Affleck told him that Hollywood actors can never get the real "Boston" accent. My son was born and raised on Cape Cod... not sure where he got his Boston accent! He will find out in a few days if he gets a part. :yay:

That's cool! I agree with Affleck. Some Boston accents I've heard have been terrible! Kevin Costner for starters!

The same can be said for Southern accents. It's rare to find a non-Southern actor that can pull it off, but there are a few.

I hope your son gets a part....:)

Very cool!! I probably would have wet myself if I walked in and he was there. :lmao:
Good Luck to your son! :thumbsup2

OMG!!! That's the Dennis Lehane movie. It's GONE BABY GONE based on Dennis Lehane's book. The same guy that wrote MYSTIC RIVER. I'm really looking forward to this movie and so glad Ben Affleck is casting and shooting for it locally. That's great. Good luck to your son! What an opportunity!!!!

How cool! Whatever Ben has done in the past, I think that he is talented and quite nice looking. I probably would have fallen apart. ;)

That's wonderful! I remember auditions!
party:

Dh ran into Ben Affleck a while back (during the first Bennifer stage) and he was very rude. DH was in military uniform and asked if he could have a photograph or autograph for me... at that time a large fan. He simply said, "Why don't you give me your name as I know this isn't for your girlfriend." DH grabbed the pen and paper and said, "Wrong. With the exception of Armageddon and Good Will Hunting, I really don't like the work your in. And I'm sure my girlfriend won't be a fan after this." While I understand these people live in the spotlight and it must be tiring, I didn't think that was appropriate.

I truly hope your son does get a part in the movie and has a fabulous time with the experience! He's already ahd quite an experience! :rotfl:

The movie is Gone Baby Gone and it does sound very good. My son who is not impressed at all by "celebrity types" said that Ben Affleck was very nice and seemed very genuine and down to earth. I'll be sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear if Chris does get a part. I guess he would play one of the "local hoodlums." My son is a very talented artist and musician but he has never done any acting........ I still can't quite believe that this is all happening. Good thing Chris wore a Red Sox cap to the audition!

OMG...that is soooo coooool!!! :thumbsup2

I agree with you about the Boston accent. It really is UNIQUE and when Hollywood does a movie based in Boston and they have these actors TRY to ATTEMPT a Boston accent too us here in BEANTOWN, we can IMMEDIATELY tell it is FAKE....Like in "THE PERFECT STORM". The only one that got it right was Mark Walhberg AND WHY because he is FROM Boston....everyone else IMHO sounded so lame trying to copy US!!!!

My boys go to college out of state and their roomies have the hardest time understanding them unless they articulate and talk slow and please pronouce your R's....

Every part of this country has some interesting accents but so many as well can be copied but this not using the R's and sounding like A's...DIFFERENT.

Good Luck to your son, maybe I will hear something on the local News (entertainment portion)!!! Boston LOVES BEN, and when he does anything it is always NEWS WORTHY!!!

I worked with Ben Affleck on Jersey Girl and he truly is a very nice, down to earth guy. Good luck and good job for your son.
