My son has a DATE!!!

Anyone with teenage autism spectrum children will know how exciting this is to me as a parent!! he has a semi-formal dance on Friday and he actually has a date to the dance! She is very sweet and shy,and he loves her to pieces!! I'm just thrilled for him!!!

Maybe I'm just hormonal, but that brought a tear to my eye. Be sure to take lots of pictures, but not too many to upset your son.

I never thought I'd see the day...and it used to make me so sad!! It's such a huge thing for him!! I think you'd have to be a mom to a special needs kid to really understand the scope of it. He acts so much better around her, too. He stops arguing and makes his best effort to be polite and to use the social skills that we've been working on. She's a good influence!!

Ds hasn't had his first date yet, that would require talking to a girl!

But...he is going to prom Saturday! His group of friends told him he had to go with them, and I was shocked he agreed to go.
I completely understand your excitement, as I'm excited about this little milestone.

I bought him a new dress shirt and a tie for tomorrow night. Let's hope he wears them without too much protest...we don't normally do shirts with collars. I can usually get him to put on his white dress shirt for his orchestra concerts without too much hassle...but this **** is ble...and you know how well we deal with change...

Maybe I'll have him try it on this afternoon and get a reaction first...

Way to step out in the world!! My DS 18 (Aspie) went to his high school after prom. He lasted 2 hours, then came home because he had enough.

Unfortunately, he wasn't there when his name was called for a raffle prize - up to $1000!

The fact that he went and had fun was priceless to us.

Congratlations! Our 17 yr old asd son is the same way around his girlfriend,too!

Congratulations! That is great news. I have a 16 year old ASD son. So far, he talks to girls, but that is it.

That's awesome! I didn't go to my prom, for various reasons, but one of them was that there was no way I would have had a date. I'm not ASD, but I never really fit in in HS. What an accomplishment for your son! You must be so proud of him.
