Ok so my sister has the biggest mouth in the universe! DH and I are taking our 2 nieces to WDW in Oct for their first trip ever and my birthday. We all agreed that we would surprise the girls, age 3 and 10. Now if you knew me you would know that is the hardest thing to do, keep my mouth shut...I have been planning this trip since March for crying out loud and she blew it in one second!

So here is what happened and some background on us...back in 84 or 85 my mom sent my sister and I to FL to spend the summer with our aunt and uncle, we were 9 and 13. They took us to WDW and video taped the entire trip and all the shows and rides and restaurants on beta which my mom had transferred to VHS years ago. Well she found the tape in her storage stuff and had it transferred to DVD and sent us both a copy of it. Well dear sister watched it with the girls and they loved it and then she did the unthinkable, SHE BLABBED MY SURPRISE!!! I could kill her...I had it all planned out...we would pick the kids up after school and tell them they were going on an adventure and pack them each their little surprise gift back with all Disney things in it...I am so bummed out! She told them about the character meals we have reserved and the resort we are staying at . She even told them I was taking them to the MNSSHP and they could wear their costumes and trick or treat for candy.

But the good news is the girls are soooo excited they cannot sit still. They spent the weekend at my house and we watched all the DIS planning DVD's I have and asked me all kinds of questions about where we were staying and stuff. Now they want to spend every weekend until we go at my house watching DIS movies and talk about the trip. I bought a calendar at the dollar store with a ton of DIS stickers so they can put a sticker of each day until we leave. The older one is doing extra chores around the house to her mom will give her more allowance! The little one is a trip, she is telling everyone she talks to that "Uncle Todd is taking me to see Mickey Mouse"

Oh I cannot wait to go...is it time yet?? ha ha!!

Sorry the surprise was ruined. But just think of all the fun you will have with the girls planning.

It's a shame that your surprise was ruined, (sisters sometimes.....) but it sounds like since the "cat is out of the bag" that you can make the time leading up to the trip fun for all of you as well!

When my sister brought my great nephew in April, she gave him a calendar for christmas with character pics, and stickers, etc. She asked him one day in March if he was ready to go to Aunt Martha's(aka Disney LOL!) and he said - well - no not yet, I still have more "X's" to put on the calendar. He spend hours looking at my Photobucket album checking out the pictures, and looking at the maps!

His mother (my niece) is not at all into Disney, so it's up to his "Mom Mom" and Aunt Martha to "bring" him up right!

You are an awesome Aunt. I wish you a wonderful trip....

(when are you going to MNSSHP?)

We are going Oct 19th to the 22nd. We will have dinner (my B-day) at Chef Mickeys on the 19th before heading to MK for MNSSHP. We have a CP breakfast and Princess Breakfast scheduled as well.

DH said if they have a great time and behave well we can take them with us in April too!

Being an aunt is so much fun...all the good times and laughs!

I feel for you MickeyNicki... my sister blabbed, too! My DH and I are taking my 16 yr old niece for her 1st visit to the world (we are overlapping dates with yours!), and my sister told her the day we were planning on spilling the secret to her! :(

I'm not really mad... I know my sister wanted to share in the excitement with her, etc. But we just decided to not tell anyone about our MNSSHP tickets, so at least we have 1 thing to surprise her with! ;)

You will have a great time in spite of your sister's big mouth. How rude to spoil a surprise for someone else! What was she thinking?!?!

Try to think of a cute little surprise that your sister does not know about - matching t-shirts, or hats, or cute little Mickey socks. At least the surprise element will still be there. Your description of your nieces sounds like they would really appreciate something small like this.

Enjoy your trip! :) :goodvibes :)

I totally disagree! If your sister "who blabbed" as you or somebody put it, is their mother, you just have to get over it! She's letting you take her babies to the most magical place! Maybe it was an accident; maybe she just wanted to be involved. If it was me, I would be the only one taking my kids. I just couldn't miss it! lol Anyway though, it sounds like you are one lucky, loving aunt. You and your nieces are lucky to have each other! Just don't let their mom feel left out! Sometimes as moms, we are exhausted and don't have the time to do all the special things that aunts who don't have kids yet have the energy to do. This is in the kindest tone, if you are wondering. :) I hope you have a great time on your trip! I wish I had an aunt like you growing up!

PS If this sister who blabbed is not their mom, you can always duct tape her mouth next time! ;)

Even though my sister has a big mouth (ha ha) I cannot be mad at her because you guys are right, it is fun to talk about the vacation with the girls. To see them get all giddy when watching the planning videos makes me tear up....to hear them ask questions like, Do you think Mickey will hug us? Makes me want to get in the car and go right now!

My sister (single hard working mom whose gives her kids the world) does not like WDW, can you believe we are related??? On the video we have when we were little she says right on the tape that she is bored and wants to go back to the beach, guess she never caught the Mickey Bug like I did. She said the only way the girls would get to go is if we take them so I hope the girls love it as much as DH and I do...I would like to take them with us again in the future.

You are going to have a great trip with the girls. Disneyshopping.com has the matching t-shirts in all different colors onsale. Maybe you could just do little things like that to suprise the girls. Most of the beach towels are pretty cheap too.

I took my niece to Disney World last year. It was great. She was 12 at the time, about to turn 13. I am glad I got to take her before she did not want to do anything her Uncle. Although she has been before with her parents, she had a blast.

I ended up buying her way too much stuff.
