Don't tell anyone but I spent eight (yes, EIGHT) days at the Disneyland Resort and NEVER set foot on non-disney land. Perhaps there is more to southern California than Disney but not for me, not this trip anyway.
We did things in Disneyland, CA and Downtown Disney and stuff at the hotels. We flew from MI and did not have a car and never had the urge to leave. We were never bored and never ran out of things to do. And there were things we didn't get to do or see so we want to go back!
I went to Disneyland with my two nieces (ages 4 and 11) and we let their parents (my sister and her husband) come along. We stayed at the DLH and had six day hopper passes. We did all the available early entry days and then came back to the hotel to swim in the afternoons. We did stay concierge and thought it was great.
