I called the dr around midnight, and her advice was tylenol again and watch him.

His eye was swollen shut (pink eye style) but he has a real bad cold (woke up with it and it progressed quickly). His nose is pouring mucous, his fever was 101.5 and real lethargic and not wanting to eat or drink. This morning, you can hear his cough so raspy in his throat.... though his demeanor is better today.

I'm hoping he didn't catch something from the beach....is that possible? My oldest had a sore throat while we were at Disney, but that was it...

He has been sick so much this year.. then my DBF is worried because the doctor says he's so thin.... ?? He's 15 months and 20 lbs. Is that that bad? His dad is 6'3 and 190 and I'm 5'9 and 120, so tall and thin is normal....

So did they call you in something in for the pink eye?

I would schedule an appointment and bring him in.

How about a strep culture and having a look at his ears? Just tylenol? I hope a visit is in the works for today. I also hope he feels much better! :)

I would take him in. He may just have a really bad cold but he may have allergies. DS6 recently looked like he had pinkeye and it was swollen really bad bc he got pollen in it. With the fever it is probably an infection, but I would want him checked anyway. Make sure he is getting enough fluids!

The pink eye is probably viral, since he has a cold. Sounds like a doozy of a cold. I can't remember if they prescribe eye drops for viral pink eye. My kids were always sick, and I'm a SAHM. However, now that they're school aged, they're very healthy.

I had been waiting on the doctor to call me back this morning, and I tried again before posting here, and I guess they are at lunch.....it's automated. So, I'll try again after 1.
I've read all online about the different pink eye infections. It's just my guess it's viral due to cold, but I'm not the doctor ;)
I just feel my DS has been so much sicker more often than my girls were :(

Aww
I would talk to the dr about that too. Maybe he has allergies? Does anyone smoke around him?

nope..no smoking... his dad quit smoking May 3rd :)
(and even then, it was outside)...

He may have allergies.... and, to top it off, his exzema is real bad right now too :(

This kid looks pitiful, with one eye red, and swollen :(

Bless his heart.
Did you know that eczema has an allergic component to it? I didn't until recently. If you haven't already you may want to try some allergy type things for it

Here is an article about it:

I had been reading about that... I was hoping he didnt have an allergy to milk (since it seemed to get worse when he was introduced to milk) but the dr said since he was drinking milk based formula, she didn't think that to be the case. And, because of his low weight, she wasn't quick to pull him off milk to test it.
He has soo much going on :(

If that's normal for you guys, it's probably normal. Pull out the old baby pictures, compare and contrast. :)

My cousin took her son to "the best pediatrician" in her area, and the guy had NO clue about important things...he only ever saw my cousin and my aunt, and they are short and rounder, while her son was tall and lanky. He kept telling her that she had to quit nursing etc etc, that obviously her son was being harmed b/c he was so skinny...they finally had to bring in baby and adult pictures of cousin's husband to get the ped to back off. It's just the way they are built.

I don't know about the other stuff, but I know that if a child is following along in the family's genetic background, don't let the charts freak you out. YOu have to have the skinny on one end of the charts and the heavy on the other end, to come up with the middle average! :)

Please get the eye checked out. My DD had her eye swell up like that and a nurse practicioner said it was pink eye and gave us drops. Well, ya know how pink eye responds quickly to the drops? By the next morning she wasnt better so I got her in with the actual peds doc. He said it was a sinus infection that got into her eye and she needed a shot of antibiotics and strong antibiotics to take for a week!

It sounds like he picked up a virus somewhere and/or has allergies.

Does he have asthma? The reason I ask is because my DD5 who has always picked up illnesses at the drop of a hat and gets eczema also has asthma. In many people, eczema and asthma go hand-in-hand... in other words, someone who has one is more likely to have the other also.

Both of my kids have viral-induced asthma. They get a respiratory virus and cough-cough-cough-cough to the point that they can't get a breath. What can just be a cold for most kids will trigger my kids' asthma and, left unchecked, they quickly develop brochitis and/or pneumonia. Thankfully, their Drs. have found some good medications that are working well for them.

But, just to let you know, if your son has a hard time shaking respiratory-type viruses, you may want to ask about asthma and preventative medications.

I hope your little guy is feeling better soon!

4 of my kids had/have eczema, and allergies, but only 2 have RAD. I found that each baby was sicker than the last (germs from siblings), with my twins being the sickliest (also the ones with RAD).

As for the weight as most dr's say now look at the kid not the scale.. if he's happy meeting all milestones not lethargic just a normal baby they his weight is probably where it should be for him. My oldest was very small she wasn't even on the charts for awhile.. She no longer has that problem.

Just got back from ER... I tried to take him to urgent care doctor when I got off work, but when we got there, they said they don't see anyone under the age of 4. :headache:
So, 5 hrs in the ER, we got medicine for :
Upper Respitory Infection
& Pink Eye (it's now in both eyes)

He is soo pitiful...can't breathe, pouring snot and eyes swollen and red.

He finally fell asleep, so we are starting the rounds of 3 different medications first thing.....

Whats so bad is, yesterday...he seemed to be doing better, this happened overnight and while I was at work today :guilty:

Your DS sounds a LOT like my DS16, colds in the spring and summer, usually upper respiratory, eczema, etc. He has bad allergies and I am convinced that is what caused all of his colds as a baby-and his many, many ear infections. If I were you I would get him into an allergy and asthma specialist. Like others have said the breathing issues, colds, and eczema are all indicative of allergies and asthma. You can save him a lot of discomfort and you a lot of worry to get something to help all of this. I wish I had known about the connection to all of this when DS was younger. He was in 2nd grade before we finally saw and allergy/asthma specialist and got it all put together. We spent about 3 years treating his allergies with no success. Once he started on the asthma meds he was a totally different kid!

He hasn't had any earaches or infections that I know of, but he has been alot sicker more often than the others :( - This is the first time I recall his breathing being affected though.... I will look into this. He goes for his 15 month checkup in a couple weeks (shots n stuff) so I will have a list of questions/concerns for them...

Thanks

Aww, poor little thing. I hate it when my little babies got sick. You can't really give them much and they're so miserable. About all that helps is a humidifier and lots of cuddling.

My DD-now 16 was only 16-lbs at age 1 year. She was a little petite thing and I was terribly worried about her weight. She didn't top 20 until she was almost 18 months. But she also was sick from 11 months until 18 months with multiple ear and sinus infections. She was on antibiotics almost constantly. Finally she was put on Augmentin for maintenance we *still* couldn't get her cleared up.

One of our NPs suggested that we take her off milk for a couple weeks and put her back on soy-based formula. That did the trick. Her ears cleared up in less than 2 weeks and she has *never* had another ear infection. Turns out she had a mild milk allergy and RAD. Getting her off the cow milk and started breathing treatments took care of it.:thumbsup2

We did have to put her on a multivitamin. She still doesn't drink milk and rarely eats ice cream. And she takes a calcium supplement daily. She's 5'3" and 108 lbs. Still a little petite thing. princess:
