I haven't been on here in awhile. It's been crazy lately. I just got another dog a couple days ago. We"ll just say it's been a long week.

My poor cat...A couple weeks ago she just stopped acting like herself. She isn't eating like she usually does. She was vomitting all last week. She's been sleeping quite a bit. She's drooling excessively. So this morning I took her to the vets. They did blood tests and found out shes in kidney failure. They thought she had lymphoma but they X-Rayed her and luckily didn't find anything. They're keeping her over the weekend and IF she's doing better by then end then she can have anywhere from a couple weeks to 6 or 8 months. I'm completely devastated right now. She's 14 and I've had her since she was a kitten. I was 4 when I got her and she's always been my baby. Anywhere I went, she went. Everyone that saw us together was amazed at our relationship and how close we are. If you pray, any prayers for my Sassy girl would be much appreciated. If you aren't one to pray, please send some pixie dust our way.

This is my Sassy kitty...

What a sweet beautiful girl. I hope you get positive results from the Vet. Prayers said for your baby.

I'm so sorry.. :( My 21 year old kitty passed away yesterday..

You know - the vets could be wrong about the life expectancy - just like they sometimes are with humans.. :goodvibes I'll be hoping that is the case for your kitty..

I'm sending a big hug your way! I am so sorry you and your kitty are going through this.

I caught my breathe when I saw the picture. Sassy (my dogs name by the way) looks almost exactly like my Barney I lost to kidney failure in March. He was 11 and I called him my "little furry man." He was only 1 pound when I found him under a bush and he was my best buddy from the very start.

I'll be thinking of you. Take care.

OH sweetie, sending you many kind thoughts and a big :grouphug: :grouphug:

Oh what a gorgeous kitty! My sister's cat was diagnosed about a month ago, and is doing well on IAMs kidney food. You want something low in protein. I'm think of you and your cat and I hope s/he gets better soon! Maybe she'll perk up and feel better once they get some fluids into her. Hang in there!

Simba, prayers being said for Sassy Kitty and you too. Kidney failure is a horrid beast. I'm very sorry she is sick and pray she pulls through. Animals have a extraordinary way of healing. Unfortunately, they also try to hide being sick until they get very bad. May you find strength during this time. Unfortunately, I understand what you are going through.

I hope she feels better..she looks just like my Simba..who is 12 and knock on wood..so far still healthy.
I hope that your cat improves and outlasts the Dr's prognosis!

So sorry to hear about Sassy's problems.
Our dear Tabby cat (age 18) died in July 2007 after having kiddney failure for 11 months.
Our daughter was 5 when we got Tabby so we understand a little about what you and Sassy are going through.
We are sending pixie dust and prayers your way and hope that the vet finds some meds that will help Sassy feel better.
Our thoughts and hugs are with you and Sassy.

Thank you all so much...C.Ann...I am so sorry about your kitty. :grouphug:

A little update on Sas...I went to visit her today. She still hasn't eaten anything. I was walking down to see her with one of the techs and she said "Sassy's very cranky today" I said she's not cranky, that's how she always is. There are very few people she likes (kinda like me). It makes me feel better that she's being cranky, at least I know she's still there. They said she hasn't moved at all since she got there. She just laid on the heating pad they gave her. When I got there, she stood up and stretched. I held her for a bit and then she fought me to get down because she had to go to the bathroom. She wouldn't go in her litter box. She walked around the cage for a bit then came back to me and I held her again. I tried to get her to eat, but the best I could get was for her to sniff it. If she doesn't start eating tomorrow they're going to have to start force feeding her. I'm going to see her tomorrow and bringing a bunch of food and treats to see if I can get her to eat something.

I wish they would be a bit more aggressive with the force-feeding, especially if it has been several days since she ate. You might want to ask them about an appetite stimulant (not sure if there are any restrictions with kidney issues but they can tell you that). My kitty takes 1/8 of a cyproheptadine for her inappetance and it works like magic. If you have to force-feed her, it's really not as bad as it sounds. Sometimes they will fight you for a day or two but the food makes them feel better and they begin eating on their own.

I am sorry you are dealing with this but with the right diet (wet food for maximum hydration) and sub-q fluids, you might end up having her around even longer than they think.

When my cat wouldn't eat in the past, I would get BeechNut Veal or Turkey or Chicken all-meant only baby food and a little baby spoon. (Make sure there are no onions on the label!) She loved to eat the veal especially off the spoon, and it is easy to digest.

I will definitely keep your sassy girl in my prayers and I hope you get good news tomorrow. She is lucky to have such a loving kitty-mom!

My kitty had blisters on his tongue in September and he had a very hard time eating. One thing I finally got him to eat was shredded tuna(for humans) with lots of juice. He would mostly lick the juice, but would get some of the tuna in. I just kept adding water and stirring it up, so he would have more juice. Do they have an IV in for fluids? If not, they def. need to be forcing water.

Hope your baby does well! My 18 year old cat died in July. She had hyperthyroidism, but died of natural causes.

Marsha

I'm praying for your beautiful Sassy. I hope she feels better soon.

I feel the same way about my kitty. She's my buddy and follows me from room to room. Kitties fill your heart with love.

When I went today she was feeling well enough to take her off the IV and bring her upstairs to an exam room instead of staying the hospital. She walked around the room and tried to jump off the exam table, but I wouldn't let her (it was too high for my comfort). I got a copy of her lab work and the numbers are better.

Oh, and on top of all the stress of Sassy and the new dog (trying to keep her under control and making sure her and my old dog are ok together), I now have to deal with my psychology teacher. I didn't go to any of my classes Friday because of Sassy. My one teacher was perfectly fine with it (I texted a friend that was in my class and told her why I wasn't going to be there and she said the professor was asking about Sas and really concerned). However, in psychology we had an exam. Our teacher wasn't even going to be there. I e-mailed him and told him I would not be able to go to class due to personal reasons. I got an e-mail back from him saying that "personal reasons" is not a good enough excuse and he needs more information before he will decide if I can make it up or not. I then replied and told him I felt more comfortable explaining it to him face to face and I would be more than happy to make an appointment with him to do so, whatever's convenient for him. He answered with what time he will get to campus and said "IF your reason is legitimate you can make it up then." I have attended every single class with the exception of Friday, handed in every single assignment on time and done well on each one, done well on all previous exams and quizzes, and never once took advantage of or disrespected him. I know that sounds like things I should be doing anyways without any kind of recognition or reward and I completely agree. However, I am one of the few in the class that can honestly say those things about themselves. He's perfectly fine if one of the slackers skip (and yes, I do mean skip, as in "Hey, I just don't feel like going to class today, I'll hang out right outside the doors and smoke my cigarette then head back to my dorm and chill") classes or quizzes. He'll even let them make up a quiz, no questions asked. However, I have proven that I am responsible and respectful, yet I have to explain my life to him in order to possibly maybe kinda sorta make up a quiz. UGH. He is just adding additional and completely unnecessary stress. Sorry, that was my vent for the day.
