My 8 year old daughter just came in from talking with the girls next door and informed me in her most pitiful voice that they were gone all day back to school shopping at a real mall. She then proceeded into a little-diva tirade about how horrible it is that she has never. even. been. to a mall in her whole life.
The poor deprived dear... Thinking back, I realized she might just be right about that, at least as far as she can recall. I think the last time I took her to the mall she was a toddler in a stroller.
In my defense, it is an hour to the closest real mall, in a direction I never have occasion to need to go.
So now the only thing in the Whole Wide World that she wants for her birthday next month is to go to the mall.
How did an overgrown tomboy like me end up with a daughter who cares so much about the wonders of the mall?

, now that was too cute.
She was sooooo excited that she got to try on all those shoes and pick the ones she liked. It hadn't even occurred to me how "deprived" she was.
