My photos from last week's trip

Dan - when it's folded it's 24" long and it has a handle for carrying. It's a little bulky but not too bad. I wouldn't want to carry it around all the time though. At night when the crowds thinned I carried it around fully extended, but with the legs pulled together. It was quick and easy to collapse it like that. But that would have been more awkward when it is crowded.

I have a monopod too that has a carrystrap. The strap is nice but the monopod is crap. A decent one might be a good option though. The one I have has loose screws and so it moves when you click the shutter.

You make me want to purchase a new camera - i have recently developed a love for photography - We went to Disney last year and I look over 1,000 pics - talk about expensive development heehee - you did a great job.

Wiggle - Thanks so much for the tips, I really appreciate the specific feedback. I know exactly what you are talking about. There is a street fair in my neighborhood this weekend where I can practice this (decided not to go to Seattle). I'll let you know how it goes.

Your photos are really stunning. I love the close-ups you did - it really catches the essence of things better than a wider view. I look forward to trying your tips as I also have a new D50 with the same lenses.

One question... were you using any filters? If so, do you mind sharing which type/s. I ordered a set of them but I don't know yet when to use them.

Also, Dan or Barrie, with the tripod... I have a tabletop one too. What do you sit it on top of at Disney. I don't think I want to carry my regular tripod with me.

Hi Carol - Thanks! I didn't use any filters. I did have a protective filter (don't know what it's called) that just protects the lens but doesn't have any effect on the photos. I did learn that I had to remove that for night shots because I would get reflections on my shots - little green dots that looked like UFOs. When I removed it I didn't have that problem.

Mostly I think a small tripod would fit on trash cans - there's plenty of those around. There's also lots of railings that I use to set my camera on sometimes - but they are often not level. Maybe one of those beanbags would be better than a small tripod. Barrie

Thank you for the reply and the tips on removing the filter for night-time pics. I have the regular protective filter you described. The set also came with a circular polarizer filter and a warming filter. I need to read up on when to use them and try it out to see if I can see a difference.

It is great to know one can take great pics without them, though.
