My phone call from Disney Internet Group

I was actually going to bring up the idea of going to the stock holders. Rice, what do you think the effect would be if a majority of Disney stock holders lent their voice to our campaign? How about politicians? It is an election year right? Hey so and so i'll vote for you if you put some pressure on WDIG. lol

I can’t speak for others, but as a stockholder I’d rather that Disney listen to their market research and internet group professionals than be swayed by the letters from a couple hundred (thousand?) people. (Note: I'm not saying don't listen to consumers, but I'm saying consider the entire audience, not just a small group, and make the best long-term business decisions.)

I also don’t see any reason Disney should be concerned about the PR given to this, as I think Disney handled it very well and if anything it gave extra exposure to Disney’s online worlds.

Over the past ten years I've watched Disney stockholder meetings where small groups would manage to get an item on the agenda to be voted on by shareholders. Without fail two things always happened. First, the Disney board would recommend voting against the proposals presented by any group other than Disney management. Second, the proposals were always voted down. Too many shares of Disney stock are in the hands of investment firms for anything else to happen. They trust Disney management to make the right decision.

Disney's product is family entertainment and that gives us the illusion that it's not just a big company, but a compassionate company. But as we've seen that is just an illusion. The reality is that The Walt Disney Company is just like any other large company when it comes to priorities: profits first for stock holders.

We'll most likely never know what research convinced Disney that VMK couldn't be profitable as a pay to play online game. I hope the concept of VMK as a pay to play game gets revisited by Disney at some point. Perhaps one day we'll see a new and improved VMK.

Thanks for all you are doing to keep the VMK dream alive...if we all do our little bit, it will really add up!!!
