First of all, let me say that I've responded without reading a whole thread (dang, some of those are 25+ pages long!) and sometimes I haven't read well ( I have made comments that were completely out of line because I misunderstood something someone said. )

But if you haven't read the thread at all, I don't think you should post. I don't think you should expect anyone else to read what you've read if you haven't read what others have read? What if everyone did this? Everyone would just be posting to hear themselves post!

So, go ahead, tell me why I'm a witch for saying this!!! I can take it!

I have frequently replyed to a post by just reading the OP. If there are 12 pages of posts following the original post, they have no bearing on what my opinion will be.

Keep in mind -- I'm not trying to pick on you because lots of people do it. But who do you think is reading your post? Is it meant just for the OP? If you expect others to read it, shouldn't you read theirs?

::yes::

I don't think you are a witch for saying it, but I am responding most of the time to the OP... not the others comments. Now, sometimes I will read the whole thing and make comments along the way as to what others have said.....but not all the time. Sometimes I expect others to read what I write and other times I simply am responding to the OP.

In this case, I read the whole thread. ;)

Yeah, I guess if the person is asking for advice that's fine, but if you're commenting on a debate, I still think you shouldn't expect anyone to read what you've written if you haven't read what they've had to say.

I think you should read the whole thing if you have time. Sometimes the OP, or other posters, have further comments along the line that may or may not alter what you were going to say.

LOL

when I read the title of the thread I had assumed you were starting a NEW thread - and didnt want to post on one of the 25+ page threads!! I had to take back my heavy sigh, and open the thread, since I'm always assuming things - and often (ok well always!!) wrong on what I find inside!!!

princess:

If I'm at home I read all of them but if I'm at work I only have a 15 minute break. Unfortunately I'm not able to read all the long winded ones.
I once started a thread. It was real obvious that one person never read every thing that I had posted. It was one of those threads where I had to keep answering questions to fully explain every thing.
Quite a few kept trying to tell this one person that she needed to go back and read what I had wrote. She couldn't understand that to save her life. Poor soul we just gave up on her.
So yes it can cause a problem at times especially if the person that started the threads adds more comments and those do not get read.

It is if you want it be!:D

I was just making an annoying, petty, smarty pants, snippy complaint to vent a little....but hey, if there's a debate there....

LOL auntpolly.
Just trying to show how sometimes any topic can be turned into a Debate. :p

I would rather read the whole thread and then post or not post at all unless it's a post requesting prayers or something similar. Those I feel fine jumping on at the tail end of. Anything with questions or debatable issues I think it's common courtesy to read the entire post before responding when at all possible. Why? Because it drives me crazy when I post something and then someone else comes along behind me and posts the EXACT same thing. It's a pet peeve of mine and I wouldn't want to do it to someone else if I can help it. Just my two cents :D .

oooooohhhhh yes! I hate that too! :headache: But what's worse is when others come afterward and tell them what a good point they made!!!!!!!!

In response to the OP, I think it is only polite to note when you haven't read the entire thread. For example, I haven't read this entire thread; not because it is too long, but as a matter of principle in this case.

The OP is essentially asking what people think about people posting without reading the thread and what the following posters state has no influence on what I think. Therefore, I don't find it necessary.

I haven't read this thread, but I think you're wrong.

First of all, sometimes it is impossible to read the whole thread....but sometimes people say, "I haven't read the thread". When I see that, I don't read what they've written. Why should I read what they write if they aren't reading what I write? Why is what they've written more important than what I've written? And if you haven't read what other people have written, who do you think is reading yours? A bunch of people who think what you are stating has no influence on what they think?;)

Because it is their opinion. Their opinion is important to them, just as your opinion is important to you.

I really don't care if you read what the other person posts. In the situations I'm thinking of it is between the OP and each individual posting afterwards not necessarily between all of the respondees.

We all share our own experiences on these boards. Like I said, I don't care if you read everyone's responses. You really don't need my permission or approval to not read anyone's post.

If you think it is rude to not read everyone's response, then fine... read everyone's response. But if I don't think it is rude then your opinion has no influence on me.

In other words, do what you want.

Well, I generally read through threads, esp. if the OP is asking for advice. Often the answer is given and if I post the same thing, I just look silly. But if it's a thread of opinions, like a debate, then I don't think it matters.

I know I'm beating a dead horse!!! But I really want to know. If you post something, why would you post if you thought no one was reading what you wrote?

Who does everyone think is reading their posts? Maybe no one is reading anyone's?
