My PC, GF, VWL, BCV, VWL, and SSR vacation…

Janet,

I am enjoying reading your wonderful reports. You are such a generous person. Your friends and family are very lucky to have you in their lives.

Can't wait for the next installment!

Floridafam- OMG I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. My comment was made in jest. Thats the trouble with being a wiseass sometimes it doesn't translate in the written word and can be misunderstood or hurtful. I certainly didn't mean to suggest you or any other friends of Janets would do such a thing. I'm very sorry if my comments were painful to you. Please accept my apology.:o

TwingleMum,

Your comments didn't offend me at all. After I first read Janet's other trip reports, I thought the same thing.

I felt guilt at first when I invited Janet and her family to join us and then everything changed. I didn't want her to think she had to entertain us.

It was a pleasure meeting Janet, her family and Bonzie1 and her husband. They were so welcoming and you could tell they are like that to everyone they meet.

Don't feel bad. I:wave:

Thanks Floridafam you are very gracious:flower: :flower1:

Janet2K - sorry I interrupted your thread.:(

Bobcat, thank you for your kind words (both of ‘em ;)).

TwingleMum, your post was too funny (like Floridafam, I know you meant no ill will). But you’re making me feel bad that my children’s birthday parties are so plain. Yikes! I’m a bad mommy! (Please don’t tell my daughter that I just said that.) I think I will blame my husband for the boring birthday parties. Yeah, that sounds good – “My husband throws the most boring birthday parties. Thank goodness he lets me plan all the vacations.” ;)

It takes one to know one. ;)

My DS said when we returned from the tour, "I love meeting new friends but the worst part is knowing you'll never see them again." :( He must have forgotten that we would see them again at the BBQ the following evening... He celebrated his birthday on Tuesday and I told him he could do anything he wanted. He jokingly said he wanted a circus in the backyard and he wanted to invite Janet's daughter. :D He is hoping to meet up with her again next time we are at WDW together.::yes::

Oh, what a living doll he is! And happy (belated) birthday to him. I can't wait until the morning (it is the middle of the night here) when I can tell my daughter that he wants to see her again in the Fall. She will be thrilled to hear that!

Bonzie1, it has been so much fun sharing portions of three vacations with you and your adorable husband. I think my daughter has a crush on him so watch out (hee hee)!

KayleeUK & Tammy, thanks for the kind words. My son has already informed me that on Thursday evening he is not letting me touch the computer. I am going to try to post at least one thing now before I join the Sandman for the evening.

That evening after I had sent my e-mail message to the Convention Services Cast Member, I exchanged e-mail messages with Floridafam. As you folks already know, earlier that day I had sent both she and Bonzie1 messages stating the dinner party’s 6:30 PM starting time and asking if that time was okay with their families. Floridafam was on the ‘net that night and e-mailed me back. This is what she said:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If need be, the children and I will head over to the GF before my husband. I'm sure 6:30 will work fine. Will it be okay with you if my husband arrives after us? I'm sure he'll be fine. I don't want you to think we are being rude if he isn't able to get there right at 6:30. Please tell me if this will bother you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I haven’t mentioned this yet, but Floridafam’s husband was participating in the Florida Half-Ironman Triathlon on the day of the dinner party. I read the following on the Internet about the competition: “The Florida Half-Ironman Triathlon will challenge competitors with a 1.2-mile swim through Disney's Bay Lake, a 56-mile bike ride around Walt Disney World property, and a 13.1-mile run through Disney's Osprey Ridge golf course.”

I don’t know about you folks, but I was impressed that her husband was going to be participating in that awesome event. Because of that event, I was worried about the 6:30 PM starting time for the dinner party. Floridafam had told me that her family was going to attend the awards ceremony at 4 PM that afternoon, and she felt fairly confident that they could easily make it to the dinner party on time. I sent the following message to her just to be sure that was still the plan:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Does your husband have an idea what time he might be available to arrive for dinner? Should I ask the GF if it's okay if we push the starting time back to 7 PM? I'm not sure if they have a hard-and-fast rule about the party starting at 6:30 PM so that it has to be over with by 9:30 PM. I can check with them to see if 7 to 10 PM is okay (they already are aware of your husband being in the race that day). Let me know what you think.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Floridafam sent me the following response:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don't move the party time just for us. Even an extra 15 minutes would probably make a world of difference. I just feel bad about possibly arriving late. I'm sorry I don't know more about what is going to happen that day. He may be well rested and ready to go by 6pm. I just have no idea. I feel guilty about even asking if we can be late. I don't want to be rude to the hostess! I just like to use caution. If he gets sick or something then the extra 15 minutes would make a world of difference.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Floridafam made me laugh with her rude comment. She is too sweet, I tell ya. The last word I would ever associate with her family would be rude. And so she and I exchanged a few more e-mails that night. Her plan to get to the dinner party was to take a taxi from the Wilderness Lodge to the Grand Floridian. She knew that was a short cab ride and assured me that they would be at the party by the proper time.

I didn’t want Floridafam’s family to have to feel rushed in order to make it to the dinner party so I sent her the following message:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I actually just left a voice message for the GF asking about the possibility of moving the dinner party. I hope to have an answer sometime on Monday. I'll let you know what I find out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And so our e-mail exchange ended that night.

The next morning I heard from Bonzie1. (Important Note: The following message will not make sense now, but I’ll post it again when I begin describing the dinner party. Unbeknownst to me, there was more than one Mata Hari in our midst.) This is what Bonzie1 had to say:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, the menu is mouth watering! My husband’s eyes popped out when I showed it to him. You've really put together something wonderful. Lifetime memories!
The lighting sounds like quite a production... 2 technicians and 1 electrician.
I want to be familiar with everyone's names before the party... I know there's Janet2k (you!), your husband Xxxx, your daughter Xxxx, Floridafam, her husband Xxxx, her 2 children (do you know their names and ages???), Bonzie1 (me!) + my husband Xxxx. What a nice group that will be!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Then I heard from Floridafam:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If they don't want to change the time, we will be there at 6:30 pm. Don't worry. I will make sure we are there. I'm confident we can be there at 6:30. Talk to you soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That Floridafam is just too sweet, ain’t she? Between she and Bonzie1, I knew my party was going to be a lot of fun.

Bright and early on Monday morning, I received a phone call from my Convention Services Cast Member. He told me that he had received both my phone messages and my e-mail messages. He thanked me for going into detail about what I wanted and did not want for my dinner party. He said that he had a good understanding of what it was that I had hoped to accomplish with my event, and he assured me that my goals would be met. I was pleased to hear that.

During our conversation, I was informed that a chef would be stationed at the Summerhouse in order to prepare our meals explicitly to-order. The Cast Member said he thought this would work out well because it would give a little interaction between my guests and the chef, and folks always seem to enjoy that. I thought it sounded perfect.

The Cast Member then informed me that the test run of the character float boat had gone very well at the Grand Floridian that weekend. Having Mickey Mouse, since he was the character that I wanted, arrive by float boat was a “go.” He told me that I did have the option of selecting Mickey’s attire and asked me what I had in mind. I told him that I was debating between Farmer Mickey (since I was having a barbeque) and the Standard Mickey. The Cast Member told me that he thought the Standard Mickey would look better. I agreed with him and that is what was selected for my event. (Note: I guess a childhood filled with selecting outfits for my Barbie dolls had grown to this – my wanting to select an outfit for Mickey Mouse. I must admit that it was fun doing so.)

It was at that point that once again Disney’s attention to detail completely took my breath away. The Cast Member said that he knew I wanted the Cinderella’s Slipper dessert at my party but I was afraid that it might look odd at an All-American Barbeque. He suggested my having a surprise dessert party at the Grand Floridian’s marina. This dessert party, he said, would be timed to begin approximately 30-minutes before the Wishes fireworks went off. I don’t have to tell you folks that my jaw was on the floor as he began describing this aspect of the party to me. I was stunned.

Normally, only the lower jaw hits the floor. But not with Disney. They’re not content with only your lower jaw on the floor; they want your upper jaw on the floor too. When the Cast Member began describing how my guests would find themselves at the marina for the surprise dessert party, that is when he got the desired reaction – my upper jaw hit the floor. What he didn’t know, however, was that I had tears of joy in my eyes. Lots of ‘em.

He told me that towards the end of the dinner, a letter would be delivered to the children. This letter would tell them that a treasure map was hidden somewhere on the beach and they were to find it. Once they found it, they were to follow it. What the children wouldn’t know is that this treasure map would lead our entire party to the Grand Floridian’s marina. At the marina would be waiting our surprise dessert party. It would be at this location that we would dine on the Cinderella’s Slipper dessert as we watched the Magic Kingdom’s Wishes fireworks show and the Electrical Water Pageant.

[…Did I just hear a round of “Awe-shucks!” from the Peanut Gallery? Yes, I’m sure that I did. It’s nice to see that there are a lot of us “kids-at-heart” around here on the Dis. It appears that I am not the only sentimental one…]

I told the Cast Member that it sounded beyond wonderful and I couldn’t wait to see the expressions on the children’s faces when the surprise was sprung on them. The Cast Member was happy to hear that and said he would draw up my Banquet Event Order. I told him I looked forward to receiving it.

I hung up the phone, picked both my upper and lower jaws up off the floor, and grabbed the nearest box of tissues. Life just does not get any better than what was just described to me over the telephone. Disney magic is legendary. I was the luckiest girl on Earth. And my vacation was only about a week and a half away. As far as I was concerned, it couldn’t come soon enough.

I bet you folks probably now agree that another word may be used to describe me:

se·cre·tive
(Merriam-Webster OnLine Dictionary)
Pronunciation: 'sE-kr&-tiv, si-'krE-
Function: adjective
Etymology: back-formation from secretiveness, part translation of French secrétivité
: disposed to secrecy : not open or outgoing in speech, activity, or purposes

synonym see SILENT

Throughout my life, lots of folks have trusted me with their secrets. I guess I’m the trustworthy type (that’s a good thing). When they ask me to keep quiet regarding certain things, I do. But I tell you one thing, keeping other people’s secrets was a piece of cake compared to keeping the secrets of my own dinner party. I almost spilled the beans on quite a few occasions to both Floridafam and Bonzie1. It took all the willpower that I could muster to keep the wonderful details of the party from them. And containing my excitement was difficult, too. Extremely difficult. I wanted to shout the details of the party from the rooftops: “We’re going to have Mickey Mouse all to ourselves for 30 minutes! And the children are going on a treasure hunt that leads to a decadent dessert party!”

Yes, it was very tough getting through those days. I think the last paragraph of Robert Frost’s poem, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” probably will give you an idea of how I felt during the final days leading up to my vacation:

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Yes, I had many wonderful secrets to keep before I set out on my magical journey.

Quoting Robert Frost!!! I've refrained from commenting - mostly due to waiting with baited breath for each installment!

Your writing really is wonderful!

The quote from "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" - was just the right way to end that last post! (not to mention one of my very favorite poems from one of my very favorite poets!!)

Thank you again for these posts.. I've planned no less than 4 Disney vacations over the past 6 years or so - none of them to come to fruition.. :( ONE of these days it WILL come together though - I know it will!!!!

Your posts of your trips serve me a couple purposes..
1. A wonderful way to visit vicariously.
2. A place to "get ideas" - I'm sure I won't be able to make plans to have the get togethers that you do - BUT - your planning, and the love that you plan with shows - and that inspires me!!

Thank you for sharing this with us!!
Pam

Janet2K...

I am all smiles reading your wonderful installments. I got another chuckle reading Robert Frost's quote (a favorite of mine)... miles to go before I sleep... Just looking at the time of your posts, I'd say you've journeyed many miles sharing these with us...

Do you ever get to sleep :o (tee hee!!! :hyper: )

Thanks for sharing... it's beautiful! ::yes::

I'm gonna jump in here and just say that that is the perfect description, "it's beautiful"! Janet2K, I have to tell you I just love your reports. Makes me feel like I'm there. I'm sure many on these boards would agree with me in saying, "We love details!!"...oh, "and photos!!" and you are so wonderful at giving us both. This is like a terrific book you just can't put down. Thank you so much!

Janet

The dessert party sounds fab :) I can't wait to read more....you audience is waiting LOL.

Let’s add on to the vocabulary list, shall we?

cha·rade
(Merriam-Webster OnLine Dictionary)
Pronunciation: sh&-'rAd, -'räd
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from Provençal charrado chat, from charrá to chat, chatter
1 : a word represented in riddling verse or by picture, tableau, or dramatic action
2 plural : a game in which some of the players try to guess a word or phrase from the actions of another player who may not speak
3 : an empty or deceptive act or pretense <his concern was a charade>

And so my little charade continued. I sent the following message to Bonzie1. Remember this important point – she wanted to know everyone’s names. (I thought it was because she wanted to be cordial to the other dinner guests. Little did I know that she had an ulterior motive -- and you folks thought I was sneaky. Stay tuned.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I had a phone call from the GF bright and early this morning. The phone call went very well and the dinner party sounds wonderful. I am very excited about it. A major portion of the meal will be grilled right there at our party - I was thrilled when I heard that. We'll get to interact with the Chef. Fun, fun, fun! The party should start promptly at 6:30 PM.
Since you asked about names, Floridafam’s son is named Xxxx, her daughter is named Xxxx, and her husband is named Xxxx. They will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge.
What time do you think you'll be checking into your resort on that Sunday? Are you staying at the French Quarter or Riverside? And whose name is the reservation under?
My family is staying at the PC, then moving to the GF (except I am toying with the idea of moving to the GF earlier, but I'll let you know what I ultimately decide to do).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As you can tell, I was getting good at charades. I had to ensure that my information was still up-to-date. I needed Bonzie1’s resort information so that I could relay it to my Convention Services Cast Member, who in turn needed it for "dinner party invitation" delivery purposes.

I next sent the following e-mail message to Floridafam since timing was critical regarding the dinner party’s start:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This morning, bright and early, I received a phone call from my Convention Services Cast Member. The phone call went very well and the party sounds wonderful. I am very excited about it. I asked about the possibility of moving the dinner back by 30 minutes. He said it is possible, however, he is concerned with the timing of things. He said the dinner will take at least two hours, followed by our dessert that is timed to coincide with the Wishes fireworks show (by the way, we have Cinderella’s Slipper on the menu, yahoo!). If we move the dinner back by 30 minutes, it will make the timing tight, but we do have the option, so please let me know what you want me to do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Floridafam responded with the following:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not move the dinner. We will be there at 6:30! Obviously, they know what they are doing regarding timing, etc. so I am not going to goof that up. If, for some reason, something awful happens, I will make sure my husband is hydrated, rested and that I have his cell phone with me. As I mentioned in many e-mails back, there is only a small chance my husband will be sick or injured or something. I am planning on all of us being there at 6:30. We will take a taxi over from the WL to the GF and walk through the GF to the area where the dinner is being held. I'm getting more excited each day!
I'm so glad to hear you were able to secure the slipper desserts. I'm sure it will be the perfect ending to a perfect party.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Little did she know how the evening would really end. [In my best Snidely Whiplash voice:] “Hee, hee, hee!”

Since Floridafam had decided that we should stick to the 6:30 PM starting time, I sent her the following message:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, I will notify the GF Convention Services folks to stick with the dinner timing as is. And don’t you dare ask me for any more information than I am willing to share – trust me, it will be a dinner to remember. (Oh, it’s killing me not to fill you in on things!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Uh-oh! I was obviously beginning to weaken. (Was there Kryptonite in the area? I probably should have been wearing my Lead Suit as protection.)

Floridafam didn’t miss a beat when she sent me the following:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to know everything! Please, pretty please with sugar on top.
Just kidding. I'm sure it will be an evening to remember. We just can't wait to meet you and your family.
I also wanted to say that it is HOT here today. I can't imagine what it will be like in Florida. I am SO glad we switched to the Family Magic Tour. I'm almost certain that my children never would have made it through 5 hours in the heat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Phew! That was a close one, wasn’t it?

I was relieved when Floridafam changed the topic to something a little more innocuous like the weather. If she would have kept after me with the “Pretty please with sugar on top” stuff, I probably would have caved. Thank goodness Mother Nature stepped in and saved the day. It may not be nice to fool with Mother Nature; however, it would have been catastrophic to have fooled with Janet2k in her one moment of weakness.

And so I sat at my computer asking myself, "Where did I put that dang Lead Suit?" It was obvious I needed to wear it if I was going to do battle again with that Kryptonite-bearing sweetie named “Floridafam.”

Thank you so much for the wonderful reports. My wife and myself just can't wait to read your next part. You are a very gifted writer when it comes to all the details that went into your little party. The reports are so good.........

Janet2K,

What an absolutely fabulous report (and what an absolutely fabulous friend you are, too:) ).

This is a great read. I love the bits with the dictionary!

Can't wait to read the rest (oh yes...this is just the planning so far!)

Karen

Sounds like a wonderful party! Cant read to read about it.

There are people's whose posts are windows to their souls. FloridaFam is one of those posters.

I don't make it to the TR board often, but I am glad I did today!

Janet2K I have been trying to decide "Who is this wonderwoman Janet2K ?" Obviously a Nom De Plume, but what does it mask. So far the possibilities that occur are a runaway best selling author who has run amuck on the Dis boards to entertain the masses. Or one of those fabulously wealthy socialite PR mavens that throw fabulous parties for the beautiful people and appear on the gossip pages. Or maybe a CIA operative working for Disney that learns peoples deepest desires and makes them come true. MMMM I don't know....
