My Parents Gave US the World! A Poly Dream PTR - April 2012**UPDATE 4/10/12 pg 10**

It sounds like (if we head to DHS in the early morning) we can have some down-time at the resort in the afternoon! That would be perfect so we may just have the energy to go MK EEMH afterall!
Yeah, I think you'll definitely have enough time for an afternoon break at Poly before heading out to MK, especially if you skip the Pixar Parade. I'm hoping that we'll be done at DHS by 5:00pm that day. We're going for TSM and will try to have the adults try out RR and ToT all using FPs. We have ADR for Ohana that evening. Then once the kids are tucked in bed along with DW and DFIL, I'm heading out to explore MK during late evening EMH hours. I've always wanted to try this!

Wow! An evening at MK all alone - that sounds absolutely magical. :lovestruc Oh, what would I do???!!!??? Shop, sight-see and probably some more shopping! LOL!

Joining in the fun! :cool1:

Great start to your PTR Charity! Can't wait to read more. popcorn::

Oh thank you so much for joining in! (I don't know your "real life" name yet!)

I was just thinking to myself, "I wonder how close to my actual trip this Pre-trip report will be?" ;) So everyone - How close to your actual plans were you when all was said and done?

Monday, April 16 - Epcot Future World & Blizzard Beach

So for this day, I am thinking we will just grab a quick breakfast at the Poly then head over to the TTC and catch the monorail to Epcot to explore a few attractions at Future World. The ones that we want to see are:

1. The Seas with Nemo & Friends

2. Turtle Talk with Crush

3. Soarin' (not sure if DD will be able to do this as she gets motion sickness)

4. Club Cool (heehhehheeee - sneaky me will get my family to taste Beverly):lmao:

After those few things are looked at, we will probably just walk around for a bit and see if anything else catches our eye. My dad and I are HUGE Michael Jackson fans, but from what I've heard - even diehard fans of his DISPISE Captain E.O. My cousin's little girl said "People Movers" was good as well, but we are such HUGE waterpark fans, I think we'd rather just head over to Blizzard Beach right after and enjoy the sun and "snow" instead! :cool1:

So, after we see these attractions at Future World, we plan on taking the monorail back to either the GF or the Poly for lunch and then we will catch the bus to this amazing place for the remainder of the day:

256-1.jpg

While at Blizzard Beach we plan on trying as much as possible. We will bring our own towels, and wear flip-flops while exploring. We have heard that you just slip your flip flops up onto your elbows while you slide and then can just slip them back on your feet when you make it to the bottom of the slides! :thumbsup2 Not sure how long we will last there, or what time we will even arrive there I guess, but they close at 5:00, so what we do after that is still up in the air! Any suggestions are welcome.

:rotfl:

I'm laughing because the 16th is currently our Epcot day! We'll be there for the full day ending with an Illuminations Cruise which is going to be an early birthday surprise for DW.

Sounds like a fun relaxing day! Not sure what time you'll be entering Epcot since you may have been out late the night before at MK. But since you're planning on leaving Epcot before lunch, you'll need to keep in mind that Soarin FP return times usually hit noon shortly after 10am. And standby times are most likely going to be at least 30-40 minutes during most of the morning hours.

I don't know if there are any bus options from Epcot to BB. It just feels like a bit of a detour to go back to Poly in between since BB is much closer to Epcot. I guess you could boat or trek to Beach Club and take the bus from there to BB but that might just end up taking the same amount of time as going back to Poly.

Regardless, I think you have a nice fun day planned out! :thumbsup2

After BB, what about going back to Epcot? You could use your Soarin' FPs or even stroll around the world showcase.

You will love the Poly!! It is my favorite!! We stayed there again last May, but this time we decided to at the BC. I will also be there the same time, arriving the 17th.. Your kids are going to love it!! My son is 6 and this will b his third time..

Hey Dave! That's so funny! Great minds think alike! I am SURE we will bump into one another during this trip. Just listen for a woman excitedly sreaming like a 5 year old and yeah, that's probably going to be me! I am so incredibly excited for our trip. Maybe even more so than my own daughter! LOL That Illuminations Cruise sounds so wonderful. What a thoughtful surprise for your wife's birthday. I am sure it will be just amazing and I can't wait to see pictures of it when it's all said and done. :) I think it's not unrealistic to think we will be at Epcot when it opens (9:00?) My parents are HUGE early birds. My dad gets up daily at 4:00 am, so he will not be letting us sleep later than 7:00 on any given day I am sure! So, because of this do you think maybe we should just head straight to Soarin' first, and either grab our fastpasses or wait in line and ride right away? I'm thinking that makes the most sense.

I will look into the transportation available for Epcot to BB, but I am not sure we want to carry around our towels, bathing suits, sunscreen and all our other random "beach" stuff all morning at Epcot. Seems to make more sense for now, anyways, for us to just stop back at the hotel, let my mom grab a Kona coffee and we can get changed into our bathing suits and head to BB from there! :) Since we have no ADR's to make, I think we can afford to be a bit more relaxed with scheduling, KWIM? Let me know what you think of our Epcot plans - they open at 9 right? As always, I appreciate your insight and ideas on how to make our trip just THAT much better! :thumbsup2 (

That is a great idea! Not sure if we'll have the energy after slippin' and slidin' all day, but it's a thought! We may head over to DTD for some retail therapy and site-seeing. :thumbsup2

My DD is so excited for the volcano pool! I am sure we will use it every day AND every night. :)

Yup! I'm pretty sure we'll run into each other!

I agree that you should head to Soarin first when you enter the park and if you can make it to ropedrop then even better. Should be able to ride stand-by without much wait if you're there at RD. Or if the standby wait time is a bit long (which could be longer than average since TT will be closed), then grab FP, hop over to The Seas, then come back to Soarin at your FP time. And yes, opening time is 9am although based on posts on DIS and Josh from easywdw, it sounds like Epcot may also be opening the turnstiles earlier than the park opening times. We have an 8:05am ADR at Akershus breakfast, and plan is to hit Soarin first at 9am.

And as far as going back to Poly before BB, you had me at Kona Coffee!! :thumbsup2 Can't argue with that! If you do decide to try to go from Epcot to BB, there are lockers available near Spaceship Earth and at International Gateway.

So exciting, isn't it? 83 days and counting!

Your Epcot plan sounds good! I was just badgering, I mean talking with my husband, about our daily plans, lol!! I'm really trying to be more relaxed this trip, but we have to have some type of plan. We are going to Epcot on Thursday...straight to Soarin', he and my oldest will probably grab FPs and ride, while I take the two littles over to Nemo to ride and look around. Then we'll ride again when they join us!! It's been on my mind b/c someone at church this morning was asking me for tips b/c they are planning to go the same time as us! It was so hard not to overwhelm her with info...all I wanted to say was call and get your reservations (they still haven't booked).

Oh, and I guess I need to introduce myself ~ I'm Stevie. Maybe you'll see me chasing my 3 wild princesses around the Poly:goodvibes

Thanks for the tip on the lockers. That is definately something to consider! I can't even believe that we are only 83 days to go! Time sure has flown by since booking the trip last summer. I have to say that my planning may just drive my parents a bit batty. I certainly hope not, or they may just regret bringing me along! I am just so darn excited and I want to make sure that we find the time to at least see our most important attractions while there. :yay:

Hey Stevie, it's great to meet you! I will keep my eyes open for you and your 3 girls at the Poly for sure! I think if you saw my "plans" you'd think I was pretty laid back compared to some of the dis-ers out there! I only have rough arrival times, and generally only 3-5 attractions that we MUST see at each park! LOL Hopefully everything goes ok though, and we have the energy to see all that we want to see! It sounds like you and I are both kinda the same way for planning - just a small list of what we want to see and a rough schedule of when to arrive and the rest should sort of just work itself out! That's what I'm hoping anyways. Do you guys have a dining plan or any ADR's for your week? We don't. We are just on the QSDP, so we will just eat when we want to. No reservations holding us hostage at all!!! :thumbsup2

We do have the dining plan and reservations ~ I'm not sure if I'm happy about that or not, lol! Last time we just did qsdp b/c the time before we did regualar dining, and it was great, but our 1 year old (at the time) was not the most pleasant to eat a sit down meal with. And we'll be in the same position this year, my youngest will be 13 months. However, she is a very laid back baby, so hopefully we will be okay. We do have a plan, but nothing major. Like you, a list that we definitely want to see, I know to hit the popular stuff first, and I'm going to try to get there as close to opening as possible. That is hard though, we are on central time, so 9am opening is really 8 am for us...tyring to get 5 people out the door on time isn't very easy!! Hoping since we are staying at the Poly we will at least make it to MK on time.

Check out wolfgang puck express at DTD ~ they have some great stuff and take the dining plan. Wish we would have discovered it earlier in our last trip.

Some other ideas on what to do in the evening after BB, you could visit the other two monorail resorts and look around or see if there are any Poly resort activities. I think there's a campfire sing-along at Poly but since this will be our first time there am not sure. There's also the campfire sing along with Chip and Dale at Fort Wilderness. We're thinking about doing all of the above on our resort day then coming back to the Poly beach at 9pm to watch the Electric Water Parade followed by Wishes at 10.

We're also planning on trying Earl of Sandwiches at DTD this time which is a QS.

Joining in!! Make sure you plan some rest time. Disney can be very tiring. We are going in April as well. The 6th thru the 15th. Staying at AKL for four days and then cruising the Dream for five more days. Super excited. My kids love the water parks. They are really fun. Crush n gusher is the best. And the wave pool at Typhoon lagoon is still super strong. We did both water parks on our June trip last year. The link to my TR is in my signature. My feet are killing me and I want a lollipop.

I never even thought about the time change. We are CST too, I don't really think the 1 hour will throw us out THAT much though since we don't have any little ones with us. Funny you mentioned Wolfgang Puck Express - that's one restaurant we definitely want to try and eat at! I think you guys will be fine - it's not your first time at the rodeo, so you at least know what to expect and how to get around etc - we are probably going to be those slow, dopey tourists standing in the middle of the road, staring at our maps clogging up the flow of hurried travelers! :sad2:

We definitely plan on taking in a movie on the beach at the Poly. We think most of our evenings will be spent relaxing at the resort, or exploring the other monorail resorts. We love that the Poly is a vacation within a vacation, and some days we may not go anywhere in the morning at all! Just take it easy at the hotel and do most of our site-seeing in the afternoon/evening! (We are seriously considering this for our World Showcase day) It's funny, but looking at my days so far, we pretty much have every evening free from 5:00 onward! Is that normal? Or do people just go, go, go, go, go for 24 hrs/day? :confused3

Yes, rest time is KEY, although it seems I have none really "scheduled in" yet. Since we have no set plans for any day after 5:00 though, I am thinking most, if not all of our evenings will be spent relaxing at the resort. :) I am sure you will LOVE AKL, my cousin just returned from there and she said it was incredible. Her kids loved the pool! I am going to go and check out your trip report now! Thanks for subbing in!!!

It's perfectly normal! :goodvibes It all boils down to each person's style and preferences. There's nothing wrong with taking it slow in the evenings. Just like there's nothing wrong with taking mid-day breaks. As long as everyone has fun and gets to experience what's important to them, that's all that matters. Plus you can always play it be ear and add things to your schedule once you're there if needed.

Thanks for the reassurance! I was starting to think maybe I was "wasting" my vacation time. But you are right, when we are there, it will be nice to have these blocks of time to decide what we want to do last minute. Who knows, we may go check out AKL or WL and explore the other beautiful hotels around Epcot. Lets just hope it's nothing like my 1st trip to Mexico. I went to bed every night at 9:00! LOL! I was SOOOO tired.

All your plans so far sound great :thumbsup2 I can't make plans yet...esp. because I keep changing my resorts :lmao:

Disney can make you very exhausted. I remember after coming home from our last trip, I felt like I needed another few days to catch up on sleep and rest my sore legs! It was also because we stayed for only 4 days, so we went non-stop everyday. Not making that mistake this year!

Since you have park hoppers and no ADRs, you'll have all the flexibility you need to add a park a visit or two to one of your evenings if needed.

Oh, and a little thing I learned from my past trips on how to avoid driving the rest of my family nuts with all my planning: I never actually shared with my DW or my parents (who joined us last time) the itinerary or touringplans I had planned for each day with the exceptions of our ADRs. I used the touringplan as a very loose guideline and when someone would want to do something different or spend more time at a particular attraction, I would just go with the flow and re-adjust the plan in my head. All the research and DIS readings can still never predict which attractions or activities your family is going to like until you're actually there. At least with the research, you can be prepared and avoid a situation like walking by TSM for the first time at 3pm and having your DD declare that we must go on this ride, 90 minute wait time be-damned!! :lmao:

That's what I was thinking, no ADR's and Park Hoppers, we should be good to go at anytime! :)

Such a great point about keeping my "schedules" to myself! :thumbsup2 I don't want to overwhelm them by "micro-managing" every single second of the week, so this is just a rough plan that we will use as a guide for the day's activities. We will probably grab fastpasses for TSM just in case DD wants to ride it later that morning, and worst case scenario - we don't use them on ourselves - but give them to another family as pixie dust! princess:
