My paper storage dilemma

I have a paper storage dilemma (and yes, I probably have a paper fetish problem too!); I have outgrown my wire paper storage bin that I purchase awhile back. Yes, I'll admit it, I like paper...and I have a lot of it....At the moment my 20 shelf rack is stuffed to the point the wire is bending from the weight, and I have two open storage cubes FILLED. It is all organized; solid color cardstock is in the wire bin, one sided pattern paper is in one cube and the double sided paper is in another. Unfortunately the cubes and wire bin are not together. My room is small and has a slanted celing so I am limited with wall space. I should tell you, I am a person who needs to SEE her supplies, otherwise out of sight, out of mind but I would like it tidy.

I have one wall in the room with Crop in Style pieces. I am not sure if I should buy four of the slotted cubes for paper. I am concerned with long time endurance considering the weight of the paper. Or should I go with a industrial wire tower similar to the scrapbooking stores have, or should I ask ;) DH to help me make a wood paper tower shelf unit. I tried the plastic lipless storage racks but those kept toppling on me so I won't go back to that.

Any suggestions, ladies? Caroline, do you have anything that is heading for the tag sale that might be suitable?

Lisa,

Mom bought some of the store wire shelves and gave them to me... I love them!! I have one large double wide unit... I store my solids there that is directly behind me. then I have a single store wire shelf that houses my DISNEY, sports, baby papers (the top shelf I use as storage for completed pages). I then have another single store wire unit that houses paper packs. Then I have a wire unit like you.. that is where I have my patterned paper shorted by color. I also have 2 cube units that houses paper stacks.
I love my wire store racks the best...

I'm like you, I need to see it or I forget I have it!!!

If DH would make the shelving unit make sure he makes them like 14x14 and x high so you can get things in and out easily. FIL make me one but I didn't think about the heighth or the extra room to ease getting things in and out.. So, I gave the unit to DH to store cables and wires in the garage! LOL

Good suggestion, Nancy, I'll keep that in mind.

I bow before your superior stash. My paper is standing in plastic holders that look like magazine holders but bigger, on a rolling cart. Patterned paper and kits live in pizza boxes in the hall closet. I can't STAND to see all my stuff - Like it handy, yes, but don't really want to see it. Good thing - since there isn't much storage in my actual space. (For me, handy = on the same floor)

Lisa I'm of no help! mine is in cropper hoppers and 1" artbins for the patterned papers sorted in the unit dad built. I would LOVE to have them out but open windows and dirt roads don't equal. I definately need it out.

i would think DH building a unit would be the best bet if you can't get store stuff.

Can't wait to see what you get done.

Most of mine is in a rolling tote, with pizza boxes for the solid cardstock and a couple of mail boxes for the paper stacks. I'm waiting for better weather to do a couple of boot fairs to raise the funds to buy proper scrap storage (what I want works out at £800 so DH said I either need to spend less on stuff:confused3 - how would that help? :rotfl:- or sell stuff we don't use. If your DH (or other handy relative) can build exactly what you want so much the better!

So far, this is what I found that I like the best. Don't really want to spend that kind of money though.:rotfl:

In the meantime, I started tidying and cleaning up my girl cave. I must have about three shelves on my paper rack filled with 12 x 12 chipboard, I am sending those to one of my Peeps. I targeted items I really don't need to see and put those in cabinet drawers. Already that is making a difference.

Next, I'll put out an APB on the above paper cabinet - cheap. :)

Oooh, that is a nice piece of storage! I'm of no help because I like everything put away so I don't have to look at it. I have my paper organized by color and pattern in two IKEA Alex rolling carts http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40196241/ Each drawer holds 2 stacks of 12x12 next to each other. So, for example, I have one drawer that has red solids, red scraps (in baggies), and red patterns (probably more info than you ever wanted :lmao:)
