My painful free dining realization...

So, like everyone else, I've been trolling the boards, checking out the disney site, looking at my Disney Rewards visa site and doing some general site searches to see if there is any info out there and I started wondering...do they finally have us where they want us? With so many of us booking now with the hopes of a free dining offer in August and September, is it possible that they have enough bookings now to warrant NOT offering FD? This year it seems like there's a swarm of people waiting - even more than years past. If this is the case (and hopefully it's just one of my crazy conspiracy theories) then I've got to hand it to Disney - they are the MASTERS!!!

They are definitely 'Masters'. They just do everything so well, we're all obsessed. DH and I were JUST there in late January and we ALMOST booked the gift card offer last night (at the 11th hour) for mid-May. Trips to WDW cost us $1,800 with flights from Ohio, staying at Pop Century, and the decision to go is not taken lightly...but we find ourselves going twice a year.

Your theory is good, everyone's interest is piqued, but I don't think that many people will actually book unless they get FD. It really is a great deal. We're hoping for the Disney Visa FD for November.

Yes there are a lot of people booking in anticipation of FD...but there are also a lot of people who plan on canceling if FD is not offered. Quite the toss up.

Something else we have to consider is that they have already warned us that deals are being cut back. Bookings are up. I think that the typical FD will come out soon, but I don't think that we will see the extended offer like we had last year.

My family is going in September no matter what. I've already bought the airline tickets and have the time off work. However, I'm waiting for the free dining to come out before I book with Disney. It's called playing hard to get.

I'm hooked, but I can't let them know it.

As many of us have mentioned on other threads, there have been multiple significant promotions being offered (gift card, 4/3, free QSDP, and all the PINS!) for the BUSY time of year.

What in the world makes us think they won't offer something equally-and probably more-significant during the middle of hurricane season and the beginning of the school year for most of the country???

My best guess is that the Disney Visa offer goes up tomorrow morning, with general public going up on Thursday. It'll be either free dining across the board, or QSDP at the values with DDP at the mods and deluxes. My guess is that it will be a repeat of free DDP across the board. It's been too successful in years past to mess with!

I like the way you think. It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when. Chase has yet to update their site and remove the expire GC offer and the Disney website has a big gap where an appetizing offer should be. The Disney gods are laughing at all of the neurotic people. Oh wait, i'm definately one of them. I never cared about Free Dining and other promotions until I came to the realization that I wasn't booking them.

Benefit of working the grave yard shift is I'm up when most folks are asleep so I hope to be on the line with WDW @ 7:00:01 AM EDT. Last nite I checked the DV website neurotically to see if anything popped up. So Today's the day (Positive thinking)

As of now there is 30% off through August 14. Hoping for free QSDP with all of you. Two years ago I got a room discount around now then got free dining in late June/Early July. I already got the room discount in a code so I am more looking forward to summer for the FD, but would happily take it now. Good Luck everyone!

I would like to point out that Labor Day is 'late' again this year.. coming on September 6...

Therefore.. I might suggest any offers which may have a connection to things like that.. might also be a week or so later coming down the pike.

hhhhhmmmmmm..... So if a lot of folks cancel because there is no free dining, then the UP side is................ smaller lines and less crowds.

Still hoping for a room discount (would like to move up to a Deluxe) but..... going anyway.

A few posts up is the historical dates when free dining was released. Some years it wasn't until April 7 or 8th. Don't panic- like someone else said, they are offering deals in the busiest time, so why not when it will inevitably be slower. In the meanwhile, don't forget to call under your names for pin codes. I was another person who didn't realize they had one until I called. Good luck everybody!
