My own election gripe...

I have to say that I'm really disappointed with the tone of the discussion as we wake up the morning after such a historic election. The results were clear and there is no doubt the will of the people was done, but all I'm hearing is doom and gloom from McCain supporters who just can't accept that the world will keep turning, the stock market won't crash, Bin Ladin won't invade the US, and life will continue as normal even though their candidate lost. I wonder if we as a country can ever come together to make this a better nation when we're so attached to our "team" that we cannot accept defeat and continue to move forward.

I have a gripe of an entirely different manner.

For whatever reason, the powers that be decided to have our district's polling place in the clubhouse of a new subdivision out in the middle of NOWHERE! If we hadn't called a friend of DH's who'd already gone to vote, we wouldn't have even been able to find it because the address listed wasn't on Yahoo Maps and the GPS couldn't find it either. The GPS said it didn't exist.:faint:

We did eventually find it though and thankfully lines weren't too bad..waited about 20 min to sign in and then another 10 for an electronic voting machine.

Go do a search from four and Eight years ago. Please let me know if you see anything different from the other losing side. Or is only Demorcrats allowed to ***** and Moan.

By the way, I am a McCain Supporter and have not posted one Negative Comment. Don't paint with such a broad brush.

I was devastated and angry in 2004. I remember feeling like I was living in the wrong country. I don't blame them for their feelings.

Here, here! :thumbsup2 Not to mention our devestation came to be realized by what we are now going through with this horrendous economy. Our country is literally going down the tubes.

Did you know that George Washington hated political parties for just that reason.
"The alternate domination of one fraction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenage, natural toparty dissension is itself a frightful despotism"
GW

Basically what ole George was saying that political parties put their own success over that of the country's. It no longer matters how much I destroy the country "as long as my guy wins".

This dis is a perfect example of this. "My guy didn't win so the country is going to @#LL in a handbasket and all you other guys are fools" :sad2:

;) Since I was pretty doomy and gloomy in 2000 and 2004, I certainly don't hold it against any of the Republicans to be the same way this year. It's hard, I know, when you feel so strongly about an election.

There have been so angry people, there have been positive people, and most like me, are somewhere in the middle. Give people to to grieve.

I wasn't around in 2004, but I am sure there was much of the same feelings from Democrats that you are seeing today.

I am not disappointed in McCain supporters. I remember vividly how I felt in 2004. I don't expect people to switch their opinions on a dime. :hippie:

Hear Hear! *raises my mug of tea* Everyone's got a right to celebrate or mourn, or do something in the middle in there own way. That's the beauty of America, right? ;)

My only disappointment during this year's election campaign was meeting a vast number of individuals that didn't bother to brush up on knowledge on either candidate. I met alot of folks who voted for whomever was younger, older, cuter or had (in their opinion) the best public speaking skills. I just hope that whatever Obama does, it doesn't drive anything in this country into the ground. If he does some (or all) good for us, then great!

No offense, but I can tell from your joining date that you weren't around for 2000 and 2004. I really did think people were going to drink the Kool-aid. ;)

*oh, but maybe you are like me....I changed my username (because it was too long) so my join date is really Aug. 1999.

"Griping" is to be expected, but making irrational statements such as "America is dead" - expecting nothing but "gloom and doom" (almost to the point of wanting it) - and cowering in fear is all very unsettling to me.. :sad2:

I remember after 9/11 - when there were people on this board who felt this way - and the same people who are acting in the above manner now chided them for having let the terrorists "win".. Yet here they are - acting in the exact same manner.. I don't understand that at all..:confused3

I would prefer to be hopeful and optimistic - not "borrow trouble" days, weeks, months, and years from now.. Only time will tell how all of this will pan out.. The man isn't even sitting in the White House yet!!

You have got to give people time to grieve, there are many people who invest a lot of time and energy in an election and it can't be expected that they are going to be all happy and cheerful for the opposing candidate less than 24 hours after an election. I agree that some people are taking it a little too far, but that's to be expected too. That's the way it's been for many years and you can't really expect it to change, regardless of which side of the fence you're on.
