I was making a lovely roast chicken (just like the one I had seen The Barefoot Contessa make on Tuesday) when all of a sudden I noticed smoke in my kitchen- I opened the oven and the heating element had burned in half! :scared1: There was white film all over the inside of the oven so I had to throw away my beautiful chicken :sad1:

Now for the "silver lining" ..... I have wanted a gas stove for years so we went out and bought a gas stove AND it won't be here for 2 weeks so we'll have to eat out for a while! ::yes:: It's an Admiral which is the Home Depot brand, made by MayTag- and we got the black/silver metallic color. It looks like stainless, but doesn't hold the fingerprints like stainless.

Any tips on cooking with gas? I had a gas stove in college, and liked it but that was a few years ago. I'm looking forward to being able to cook when the power goes out!

My ds (8) told the salesman we "were gonna need a new fridge too" and the salesman said, "What makes you think so?" to which Jack said, "Because my Daddy got some overtime- and any time my Dad gets a little money ahead, something goes" :rotfl2: The salesman (who was about 75) thought that was the funniest thing he'd heard all day!

Your DS is one smart kid. The same thing always happens here too. Last week it was our crock-pot, xbox, and DSL modem. Oh well atleast the extra money came in at the right time. I did convince DH not to replace the xbox yet. :teeth:

You will LOVE having a gas stove and oven. The great thing about gas is that if you have a pot of boiling soup/sauce/etc on the stove top and you need to turn it off, it doesn't require removing the pan from the burner like you would have to on electric.

BUT< when the power does go out, will you still be able to use your stove? We couldn't :confused3 It must have had an electric starter or something as we couldn't use it when the power was out.

You can manually light the burners, but not the oven.

I love my gas oven. But ours has an electrical ignition and cannot be used without electricity.

I enjoy the stove part being gas the most. Next time I may get a gas stove and an electric oven. I can't tolerate an electric stove anymore. Takes WAY too long to heat up and cool off! Enjoy!

(Did you have to get a slide in? That is what mine is and I know it will be $$$ to replace)
