My opinion regarding cat. 11 cabin......

We hated it! Four previous cruises we had a cat 6 with verandah.
The cabin is too small, not enough drawers, too dark, gloomy and depressing. We will not do a cat. 11 again. Even with rude and obnoxious verandah mates we enjoyed the fresh air, light and extra storage of a 6. The single bath (11) did not bother us, it was fine.
Just my opinion.

how many people did you have in the cabin?

and how long of a cruise was it?

we're doing a category 11 for a 4 night cruise in November ... primarily to save money ... but also because on our last 4 night we never used the verandah, so it seemed like a waste of money ... for a 7 night though we'd insist on a verandah.

ivanova, don't panic. We have taken 4 cruises... two in outside cabins, one in a verandah and our final one in an inside cabin and we actually LOVED the inside cabin. When we had the verandah, we loved it and we used it but we didn't have any problem switching to a cat 11 and for the difference in price, we would probably never book anything but a cat 11 again. It was so cozy and comfortable (though we did have the sideways facing ones) and we both slept like rocks. The rest of the time we spent elsewhere on the ship.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion so I'm not trying to slam plutojudy but I just wanted to point out that you can, in fact, have an inside cabin AND actually enjoy it.

If you've got the disposable income, go for it.

As for me, I'd stay in a cat 11 if it meant the difference between cruising or not. I'd also prefer to cruise more often in an 11 than less in a 6.

JMHO, of course.

JMHO, BUT....I love the Cat 11......in our room was my dh, dd & me.
We had plenty of room. DH loved the darkness of the room because if he needed a nap during the day, the room was ready!!! :)

That is why there are so many different catagories on a ship. Hopefully, everyone will find something that makes them happy.

Sorry to hear that you didn't like your room plutojudy.

We have booked a cat 10 for our next trip. We are taking a dd's friend with us. Thought the split bath would be good while traveling with another child!

IMHO, I'd rather cruise TWICE in a cat. 11 than ONCE in a verandah. Would I like a verandah?? Sure! But it's not cost effective for me. I found the 11 to be just fine for our needs. Especially on a 4 night. You're hardly in your room anyway. And I prefer it dark when I'm sleeping. I found the other rooms to be "not much bigger" anyway. ENJOY!

Cat. 11 is a good deal, simply because you still eat with everyone else and do the same things. It's just that the people across the hall from you have a view and you don't. I'd rather do an expensive excursion than have an expensive staterooom myself.

While the idea of seeing the sun rise from my own room is appealing (I'm sure GF would love it), the idea of waiting longer to go for that is iffy with me.

Everyone is entitled to their likes and dislikes though right? Sorry you didn't have a good experience. Who knows, maybe if we start cruising in higher categories then move down for one we'd be in the same position too.

Yes, everyone IS entitled to their likes and dislikes! I didn't want this to be one of those posts where everyone piles on the OP because of different opinions, but at the same time I know that I was terrified of having a miserable time in a cat 11 only to find out that my fears were unfounded!

Heck, we are wanting to do the 14 day cruise in an inside cabin!

For those worried by this post, don't be. Cat 11 is just fine.

Plutojudy is correct in that the rooms are a little smaller, have less storage space and are darker (you're on the inside, it's not a window seat).

However, the rooms are plenty big enough and have enough storage (if you remember to bring an over-the-door shoe organizer).

But the verandah rooms have some pluses besides just a verandah. Even thought we hardly use the verandah, we still like to get them when we can affort them because the room is so much brighter, more storage (than the 11), and it's nice to be able to step out on your own verandah without having to take the time to go out on deck.

Basically, ALL THE CATAGORIES ARE GREAT. The more expensive are better, but that doesn't mean you have to have a more expensive room to have fun on a DCL ship.

Like everyone is saying, everyone will have different opinions, and this is one I'd personally differ on. We do find that we spend a lot of time in our cabin. It's usually a great place to just sit back, relax, watch some movies on the TV (don't watch much at home). So if we did the 14 day, we'd have to have a "window seat".

My opinion, Judy just over packs and enjoys her sunlight just a little too much! :teeth:

Sorry it didn't work for you. But, it also didn't ruin your cruise, right? Tell us it ain't so!!

I cruised last October with my DH and am cruising in June with my DD, DGS and DGD. We only plan to use the room to change clothes and sleep in - for that it is more than adequate. I wouldn't discourage anyone else from a Cat. 11. :sunny:

Of course it did not ruin our cruise. I just wanted to give my opinion.
BTW, shoe bag would not have served any purpose for us. The storage problem we had was in regard to drawer space for our folded clothing, etc.
I love fresh air and sunshine. We did spend a lot of time at the pool and on the comfy deck chairs on 4, but we still missed a verandah.
"MY opinion"

My biggest problem with a Cat 6 (the only cat we've ever sailed) is it's NEVER REALLY DARK!! Even at sea, there are lights on the exterior of the ship, and I do like DARK to sleep. The dinky "privacy curtain" between the bed and the sofa area doesn't afford much privacy, and doesn't do anything for light cming in either. That said, I crashed so hard every night, I still got enough sleep to go the next day.....

On our 7-night Magic cruises, we had a veranda each time and really enjoyed it. I'm one who likes "quiet" at some point during the day, and our own veranda was the place to go for that.

On our 4-night Fantasy cruise we had an inside cabin and really didn't mind it, for a short cruise. Enjoyed being able to take an afternoon nap in total darkness.

Had a veranda on our 4-night Wonder cruise and enjoyed it, but not as often as the 7-night so not sure I'd get one for a 4-night cruise again. Definitely want one for a week long cruise though.

Lisa, I LOVE that picture of your cats!! :teeth: So cute!princess:

I think a lot of people don't mind forgoing the verandahs, including myself, using their money elsewhere.

We're in a cat 10 (SPH) and plan to use the extra money we saved not getting a verandah on excursions and souviners:teeth:

How can any stateroom on a Disney cruise be a bad one?

Just for the record..... I'm not saying I'd never stay in a higher catagory, just choose not to at this point:earsgirl:
