I just wanted to tell you all about my experiences at motown this past week.
We went to Motown twice last week because we had those lovely half price gift certificates.
First time we went to Motown it was about 5:00pm in the afternoon. I made the mistake of showing my gift certificate to the waiter as soon as he presented himself to the table. From the minute he saw them he tried to sell us on the most expensive items on the menu. No sale. We ordered our drinks, appetizer, and the our dinners. The total came very close to 50.00 dollars. But thats not truly what i want to talk about. The waiter all but ignored us for the time we were there. We sat in a chair next to us with his back to us talking to the couple next to us. Our drinks were empty for nearly ten minutes and he was busy chatting with the couple next to us this made me mad. Finally, when he did get up he ignored us for another 5 minutes still empty drinks folks.
All though as you can see I was very upset with the service, I was very pleased with the taste of the food. It was very good. I would highly recommend the philly cheese steak. It was big enough for two with amble fries to share as well. My sons said the chicken fingers were very good on the childrens menu.
The second time were there we went about 12:00pm. A little smarter and wiser this time , I did not show the gift certificate until after we had eaten and the bill was presented. I feel this made all the difference in the service we received.
I just thought I would interject this idea for those of you who have the gift certificates. Don't offer that you have them until you pay with them. While they are a great deal, I did feel like I was being treated as a second class customer if they knew that I had them from the beginning. Where as, if I presented them at the end of the meal I feel like I got better service. This happened to me at all three restaurants. I had six of the certificates one for each day of my trip : 2 Hard Rock, 2 Nascar, 2 Motown in total. I don't think the level of service that you receive should be based on the method of payment. Because in the end the waiters still receive their tips based on the total amount spent and the level of service that they provide. I am a good tipper for good service and an excellent tipper for excellent service. Just because I paid with the gift certificates did not mean that I would not tip well.
These were my experiences just last week.
