I am totally freaking out!!! This morning I cried for about over 10 minutes. Then I sat and looked at her baby book and watched some home movies of her and got sadder! No other birthday of hers has affected me like this. She started 1st grade yesterday, no problem for me, nor did I have any probs when she started kindergarten.
I just don't understand why I am so emotional this year. If she was my youngest I think I would understand it more, but I also have a son 3 and another daughter 11 months so it's not like all my babies are growing up or anything. DH comes home for lunch every day and will probably think I've gone off the deep end! LOL!!
Anyone else lose it over birthdays?

Mother of four reporting here.

Kids ages 19,13,9, and newly 7.

I hate to tell you this but I cry EVERY time my children have a birthday.

That kind of" lock-the-door-get all soaped up and -stand-in -the-shower-and-wail " cry.

Huge gulping sobs, with hot stingy tears.

DH has just accepted the fact that this is "normal" for me.

I don't know what causes it either but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

When my oldest graduated from elementary school (5th grade), and my youngest graduated from kindergarten on the same day, I was teary all day. Otherwise, I usually alternate between feeling numb ("where did the time go??") and joining in with their glee about how old they're getting. (Remember WANTING to get older?? )

My oldest turned 16 in August and got her driver's permit. She's now a Junior in HS. My 2nd just started high school. And my third just started middle school. It's been an eventful few weeks. I'm more into the "Dear Lord, get me through this" mode at the moment. ::yes::

Happy Birthday to your DD! :)

Emily turned 4 on last Friday and Hannah turned 5 yesterday. I have been so busy with our camping trip last weekend, birthday parties, first day of school and making cupcakes, that I haven't had time to lose it.

If I ever have a quiet moment of reflection again, I am sure I would break down. I can't believe my babies are growing up. On the girls' birthdays I like to tell them the story of the day they were born. Seems like yesterday.

Good to know I'm not the only one!

Like I said it's just such a weird reaction for me it took me by surprise. I did get a little choked up on their first birthdays, but that's it. And we'll be celebrated our youngest's 1st in two weeks, so I'm sure they'll be tears again as she is my last baby. I'm expecting that though, so it won't surprise me!!

MaryAnn -- I can't imagine when they all start driving! It seems so far away, but I know it will go by so quickly.

DH's nephew graduates from high school this year. When I first met him he was 4 years old! I can't believe how quickly time goes by sometimes!
