My NYC experience

I survived the city! And I am ready to go back!!!

I have never been to NYC before and I have to say that it was a GREAT experience!!!

I went to ground zero with the help of another DISer who met me at Macy's and got me to Ground Zero via subway. Then ventured onto Central Park and then to time Square.

I went to the new Disney Store which was AWESOME! I got free Disney Dollars as I walked through the door (of course I had to fill out an applicationi for a Disney Visa) BUT, I got $10 in Disney Dollars that I brought home with me

Went to the Toys R Us in NYC, I think that is the BIGGEST Toys R Us that exists. There is a ferris wheel in the center of the 3 story toy store. The cars have characters on them. There was Scooby Doo, Rug Rats, Sponge Bob and many others. Each car was different, it was really cool!

Time Square was the best part of NYC. For someone from a small town that doesn't get out much, this was a very exciting day and one that I will DEFINITAELY do again SOON!!!

Welllllll, the subway was interesting, there was a kid going from car to car selling M&Ms for some playground or something and giving a speech as to why it is important for these youth settings to keep HIM out of trouble, He was cute though.

And then there was a quartet singing group going from car to car holding out hats for money. I thought that was rather interesting.

We did get lost. The train we were on originally didn't go where it was supposed to go, something about a saturday thing? So we got off and got back on another train after asking someone how to get where we wanted to go.

I was just in AWE of the subway really. I mean, at one point, we were standing waiting on a train and all you could see were the empty tracks, and at that point, i was running through my head all the movies I had seen with this particular setting, lol.

NYC is just an amazing breath taking place.

I am happy to hear you visited and enjoyed my old home. I grew up just outside the city and visiting it was never such a big deal to us because it was just a regular part of daily life. Being able to take in a Broadway show every few months, fantastic museums to visit, watching them light up that big tree, going skating in Rock. Center during Christmas season, or even window shopping and seeing all the great displays that time of year all seemed fun but now I realize just how great those things were. Taking the subway, or express busses downtown seemed so normal. All that rushing around, crowds of people at every corner waiting to cross, street performers, etc all seemed normal to me. Now that I have moved away, I can see more easily what made NYC so interesting and special.

Florida can be nice too (without hurricanes though), and the opportunity to be within a two hour drive to WDW is one good perk to living here!

I didn't get to see any of the museums, we only had 7 hours before we had to leave again and well, I just hit my major points of interest. I am trying to figure a way to get there again where it won't cost an arm and a leg and I don't have to drive. OMG, there is NO WAY I would drive in that city. That is alot of why it took me so long to get there. I KNEW I didn't want to drive and NOW I know why, those people are NUTS!!! But if I can find away to get there where I don't ahve to drive into the city, or pay alot of $$$ to leave my car sit outside SAFELY, I will go back..

I did watch them skate in Rockefeller Center, and if I hadn't had DBF with me, I might have skated some. I thought that was awesome. And yes, the street performers were something to see.

Geesh, sometimes I feel like I live on Walton's Mountain and never get to see the world

You only got to stay one day?! NYC is my fave destination, hands down. I LOVE the sub system, LOVE the crowds, everything about it. I haven't been ina couple of years and am dying to return.

I'm glad you got to exp a taste of it! Now you'll have to plan a looooooong trip so you can take in even more!!!

I can't really afford to stay, I have looked into weekend trips and such, and it is WAY out of my price range. Yes ONLY a day *sigh*

I think I need to take on a 2nd job for my travel wants.

hahahaha... Walton's mountain! That's pretty funny.

I feel a bit "removed" from the world as well here in Florida after a lifetime spent in NY. Never see crowds of people crossing streets here. In fact, almost no one walks anywhere here. There really isn't any means of public transportation to speak of -- I have seen a bus that runs a few hours a day, but no one is really on it! It's suburbia -- drive to the malls, movies, grocery stores and schools.

You are right about driving in Manhattan. It's crazy.

I hear that! Thankfully, I have an uncle who lives on 34th st that I can stay with, and since hotel is the bulk of the expense for a trip, I can go really really cheap. And most attractions are free

Otherwise, we'd never get to go either...

I WISH I knew someone who lived there, I would be there ALOT, lol, like become a native on the weekends

I only live approximately 4 hours from the city and have always wanted to go, but if I KNEW someone that would let me bunk in OHHHHHHHHHHH I would be in HEAVEN!!!

I would be a problem either cause i would only be there to camp on the floor to sleep? If that is something that happens in the city. lol

we are lucky too..my BIL lives right in Manhattan so we stay free. I spent 8 days at a dance comp in NYC last summer. we stayed at the hotel (right in Times Square) for all 8 days...let me tell you I had to do lots of fundraising to pay for that! My favorite place to eat that trip was The Stage Deli..I became obsessed with their chicken caeser wraps! I love visiting NYC, but would not want to live there...much too fast paced for me...but my 16 yr old loves it and wants to move there. We also took the subway for the first time without my BIL leading us around, I am happy to report that we didn't get lost at all! (patting myself on the back)

We try to go every year for a few days after Thanksgiving. I hate the subway! There was a young kid in our subway car selling M&M's, also. I was afraid of offending him, so I made my husband buy some.

New York City is a fantastic place to visit!

I would LOVE to go and see the Macy's day parade and go at new Years, but OMG, the PEOPLE at these events!! Has to be an outrageous amount of people there.

We went a couple of months ago for the 2nd time.
I love that Toys-R-Us store with the Ferris Wheel.
Did you go to the Statue Of Liberty?

I went to the statue of liberty awhile back, before 9/11, wasn't really impressed with that. I think that I love the city for it's athmosphere and the entertainment and the lights and well, all the things you don't see when you are cooped up in "nowhereville"

I'm your neighbor from Greencastle. Remember?? Anyways, my daughter goes to NYC about 2 times a year. She's a NY Yankees fan, and she goes to their games. She usually spends about 2 days there including Central Park, Times Square, and Macy's. I've been there several times. I love going to Radio City Music Hall and watching the Christmas show. Spectacular!!!!

Do you know how odd it is to know that someone else within like 20 minutes is on here?

Where does she stay when she goes? I will not drive in that city! There is no way. Does she drive? Does she take a bus? How does she get there?

She goes with her dad, I'm not sure where they stay. It's not right in the city. I do know that they use the subway. She does drive, but not to NYC.

I like to take bus tours to the city. I leave the driving to someone else. I personally have never spent the night in NYC. I often see bus tours in the Herald Mail newspaper. You could check that out.

That is how we went and i will go more often, but I want to go on my own at least once so there is no time frame. I went with Kline bus out of Waynesboro. In fact, the bus went out of Greencastle and Chambersburg Sat morning.
