As I went for my first walk in my Sketchers Shape Ups tonight, I got to thinking. October 1st creeping up on me, only a day away! I'm a Halloween enthusiast. I already put my decorations up! The thought crossed my mind of trying to give up candy, soda and chips until Halloween, since I know I'll be pigging out on them that day. I find myself constantly dipping my hand into the candy jar at work and drinking soda almost every night with dinner.

So I decided starting October 1st, I'm going to not have any soda or candy until Halloween. Then I can have my can of diet coke that one friendly house gives out by me, and enjoy my treats while I walk the neighborhood.

Everytime I try to set one of these goals for myself, I give up on it after a couple of days. I wanted to invite anyone willing to join me into this, to attempt to give up sweets and treats until the ultimate day of sweets! This doesn't mean once Halloween comes I'm going to go off the deep end into a sugar coma.

So anyone willing to join the challange and keep updated on your progress, post here! :):)

I'll give up sweets and chips with you. I love a challenge. I need my one can of Coke Zero or Caff free diet coke each day though and as long as I'm still getting my water I'll allow it for now. I hope this is an ok change and the offer still stands.

That works for me! Mmmm diet coke...:rotfl:

Are we talking ALL sweets or just candy? I don't drink soda and I rarely eat chips (and they are usually baked), so those aren't a big issue. And I almost NEVER eat candy, but I do have a sweet almost every day............P

I've decided for me it's things like cookies, cake, bars, candy, rolls, donuts anything like that. The chips won't be hard for me either but we have 2 parades with loads of candy coming up in the next few weeks so that will be hard. I'm trying to decide if I'll let myself have a fat free pudding cup every now and then still or if I should make that a no no too.

Be careful you don't make TOO many things off limits. You are setting yourself up for failure if you restrict yourself too much. Anyhow, I think I am not going to join in this particular challenge. I really only eat one sweet a day, max, and I am just not ready to give it up. But thanks for asking................P

My hubby already made cookies tonight but I'm resisting. Jerk! And he told me he ordered my favorite caramel rolls for his birthday treat at work this month. I told him if I make it up until the day we have them (it's him and 3 others so I have no idea when it will be) I'll have one. That makes things a lil easier because that's probably only half way into the month. That is the ONE and ONLY thing though. I don't eat sweets everyday so it shouldn't be too bad. I'm thinking that the fat free or low cal pudding WILL be allowed as long as it is in my cal range once I start couting cals next week.

So far so good on the soda and candy for me, but I feel like I'm substituting everything with carbs now. I'm having a pizza and bread love affair! :(:( Maybe that will be my challange next month...no carbs until thanksgiving!

I'm doing great also. I ate pizza on Friday but was good about it. I was craving something sweet pretty bad yesterday but never gave in. I didn't drink a soda yesterday either. Not because I wasn't letting myself but because I just didn't. I had some hot green tea instead. I don't let myself have a soda until I've had at least 32oz of water. I figured if I opened one I wouldn't get another 32oz since I was just home vegging and tend to drink less of anything when I do that. Chips haven't even crossed my mind. I knew that wouldn't be hard though. Good luck! Hope you have a craving free week. I think after the first week or 2 it will be smooth sailing.

I'd like to join you all but I can't seem to get through ONE day without delving into the sugar! I'm gonna try my darndest tomorrow to do it.

I do great at work despite the chocolate dish across from my desk, but the minute I get in the door and the kids are crunching, I eat everything in site!!

Checking in after a couple weeks here! Still no soda, just drinking water and had some fruit juice a couple of times. No candy but cookies and cake are finding their way into my diet >_<! Stupid october birthdays! I need to try for a cookie and cake free rest of this month, only about 2 weeks left!

Still nothing here. No candy, cookies, cake, donuts, rolls, bars, NOTHING! I drive by my coffee shop everyday to go home from work and that is killing me more than anything actually. I haven't missed the chips at al. I think if it was summer and we were doing BBQs and such that may be harder than it is now.
My kids had a special trick or treating thing on the 10th and they got huge bags of candy at the parade we went to and it's all been up on the fridge and I haven't touched it the whole time.

We are having rolls Wed here at work for my hubby's bday but I'm passing on those too. He's a lil upset but he'll live with it. He knows what this challenge means to me.

I really expected to lose a little more weight due to not eating any of this junk but I'm not. I'm not over eating other things either so I don't know what's going on. It's actually kind of discouraging. Why not eat it if staying away from it isn't making a difference you know?

I know exactly what you mean! I've actually been having a fiber one bar every day at work to curb my usual candy bowl graizing, and it isn't helping me in the slightest. They say you lose more weight when you eat more fiber, well I'm eating a lot more than usual and staying the same, plus not feeling any fuller. :(

Congrats on being able to resist the coffee shop! I know how hard it is for me to drive by Dunkin Donuts.

We just got a TON of Halloween candy at work, put into little jack o lantern buckets for the patients to take. And a rep brought us a ton of candy as a gift for referring people. Just what I need in my face all day long! But I didn't have a single piece! Ate an apple instead :):)

I was just hopping over to see how everyone was doing here. Sorry to hear you are feeling frustrated. Don't forget, eating CANDY and sweets isn't usually about getting FULL... it is about psychological and emotional cravings.
If the FiberOne bar isn't fulfilling that psychological craving, maybe you need to find another HEALTHY treat or sweet. Or even try another flavor in the FiberOne bars. I find that the peanut butter one is almost TOO sweet and it doesn't have the chocolateyness that I crave. Try the Mocha flavored ones.... they are a bit more chocolatey.

Anyhow, good job with the apple. Sometimes I find it is just easier to NOT HAVE ANY of the foods that are hanging around tempting me.... because it is harder to stop once I get started! If I just tell myself that I will have NONE, there is no room for compromise... none of that "well... just ONE more". NONE is NONE! While that may not work for everyone, it works for me.

I hope the remaining days of October can go quickly for you all!........P

Thank you for the encouragement! I was able to walk past the piles of candy with ease today at work. Just chugged away at my water. I've tried the chocolate fiber ones bars and they are pretty yummy too! I've just been stuck on the peanut butter ones because I got a 30 bar box from Costco. :rotfl:

I know what you mean about "one..just one!" If I say "ok, I'll just have a half a cookie" I always end up going back for the other half. I'm better off saying NONE NONE NONE!!

Only 10 more days to go! I'm thinking I might even go after Halloween without the soda, it's starting to feel kind of good not drinking it.

Just checking in again. Besides the little slip up involving Pizza Hut on the 23rd I've been great. I've had nothing after that either. I could've used it as an, "I already messed it up why bother now" but I didn't!

I do have to say I am dying for a coffee and will have it Saturday. I even thought about making those cokoies I've had in my freezer all month long. I need to get it out of my system and then keep plugging. Not to mention running and then walking my kids around trick or treating will help burn it off. I promise to not go crazy!

What are your thoughts for November? I am thinkning of either giving up fried foods or at least cutting back to like 1 time in the month. I don't eat a lot of it but if it's there and I want it I do. I need something to tell me, no you really don't need it stay away and a challenge is just the thing.

Fried foods is a perfect challenge! We have a deep fryer in our apartment, my boyfriend is a fried food junkie. So their is always a fried meal in my life atleast once a week. I was thinking of actually going til Thanksgiving without soda as well again. I had one this morning with some left over pizza and realized I was actually getting used to not having it all the time, and it didn't taste as enjoyable as I thought it would.

Did you want to give up fried food til Thanksgiving or the whole month?
