***???? I was just making an observation buddy. It is nice when people relate to the person getting pummled because they don't feel like they are alone.
I didn't think it was funny when I read it either but I guess that I can see what the OP was trying to say. I would have given the guy the food personally but of course aggression is rather creepy too.

and if some jerk is going to try and follow me down the stairs to the subway station like I've said before he was doing, then yes, I'm going to yell at him/insult him and make him go away.
I lived for years in Chicago (on the South side and in the Wrigleyville neighborhood) and I know exactly what you are talking about. I must be a mean person, but if someone threatened me there is no way he would get my food. Why would I reward that kind of aggressive behavior? Why would I give him what he wanted after her threatened me? If I do then all will happen is that man (with a full belly) will threaten someone else like the big bully that he has become.
Many other DISers just don't understand how it feels to be stalked by an aggressive panhandler. They live a sheltered, middle class life and just can't see or feel your fear. They don't know that sometimes the only way to make it to the EL safely is to be a Bad ***.
What would you have done if the guy asked for your food and you being the kind hearted type complied then the guy said "ok now your wallet"?---Been there done that---and unfortunatly that IS the way of the world
How would you have felt to have given the guy some assistance then walk away only to have him come running up behind you, knock you down and take your pocketbook---Been there done that=====How about after he comes running up and yanks your chain right off your neck, cutting off your breathing, slicing thru your skin and leaves it bruised for over 2 weeks---Been there done that
Now if someone grabs me they get decked--That is what my kindness to street people taught me and I had to learn it the hard way
The op is lucky in having just been grabbed-it could have been way worse
And as for those who say what about her BF---My DH is military and trained very very well but in situations like that he is the giver to avoid confrontation=I however am the aggresive one-Growing up where I did with the situations that presented themselves===My DH also would have pulled me down the street to get away from the situation
