He is so gung-ho about everything. I try to keep him out during the daytime but he terrifies me. He runs up the stairs and I'm so scared hes going to jump and hurt himself. He is the most playful thing I have ever seen in my life. He is a living doll! At this rate I don't think I'll be able to give him the run of the house for months....at least until hes big enough to know better than to jump off the 2nd story!!

Oyyy....

My world and welcome to it, Beth!! :teeth:

I have been through so many kittens, it amazes me that they EVER make it to be CATS!! It's like little boys, how do they survive?

Well, John Cole made it, Michael made it, this little guy will make it!

For the first two weeks with a new cat he is always in one room of the house until he's acclimated. Once he gets out he's so grateful they usually get along fine!

Hang in there and WE WANT PICTURES!! :bounce:

ROFL - sounds like Candi - now that she has become acclimated she thinks she rules the roost....and the toilet paper!!!! ROFL - Saturday I was on the computer and I thought she was just playing with an empty toilet paper roll....oh my surprise when that wasn't all she was playing with

Robin,

I'm getting pictures tonight! He is a mess! He fell through the bed last night..at the headboard and I'm fishing him out at 3am. So tonight I think I will probably crate him for the night just to keep him ALIVE ...lol!

He goes wide open all the time. I gated the stairs, but he will probably jump over it!!

Hey Beth....your new kitty sounds like my 17 month old son!! Lord help us live through this stage!!

How old is the little "mess"? My little nightmare, Meeko, came back from being "fixed" an ENTIRELY different cat!! Before he drove ALL of us crazy, including my son. I actually had one cat who hid from him all day!

After he lost his "maleness" he has been sooooo sweet and QUIET! Hopefully you'll have the same experience when your guy is older.

Chris, I have to explain to people all the time why I don't keep my toilet paper on the roll. It has to be stashed on the shelf way above the toilet or my babies think it's TOY TIME!

The little terror was born 12-30 so that would make him a little over 3 months old. I thought kittens were supposed to sleep...LOL!!! Nope not this one! My other cats are hissing a bit at him but he ignores them so I don't think this stage will last too long. My other baby who is around 9 months old wants to play with him so bad and she doesn't know whether to be scared or mad or what!

How old is Meeko? The breeder said to let Isis ...... (pronounced Ice-sis) get to at least 10 months old before I fix him. He is supposed to be a really big kitty so I'm hoping he gets some size on him soon so I can trust his little butt!

Chris how old is Candi?? If Isis wouldn't fall off of everything I would let him go but he scares the living daylights out of me!

Rose, yep thats about the size of it, a toddler who you have to watch 24-7 but he is so worth it!

LOL!! Have fun, Beth. :teeth:

I had similar experiences with both Sage and Skye when they were kittens. (Until Sage got sick anyway) Skye didn't really slow down much until he was Neutered, but he also calmed down a bit after being "fixed". Right now, Sienna is the one that leaves me with fear for what she's doing half the time. LOL!

She'll be 8 months next Tuesday (by our best estimates anyway). Her trick now is to run as fast and hard as she can and do somersaults on the floor as she is trying to stop. It's a riot!!!! I never knew an indoor cat could be so entertaining. And her high flying acts off the back of the couch and the chairs is also entertaining - and I agree Beth - I have no clue how she has lived this long! OMG and she is just cracking us up with her bathroom antics too - when she hears you going potty - she's right there!!!! And if she's not in the bathroom when you flush - look out cause she comes tearing from wherever she was....it's so funny!!!!

We did try two weekends in a row to let her stay upstairs with us while we were sleeping...and that was fine until someone gets up to go to the bathroom, then she's up roaming around.

Just wanted to give my 2 cents about waiting till the kitten is 10 months old. My cats breeder, my vet, and some friends have mine do not recommend waiting that long to neuter a cat. Six to nine months old is more like it and I would lean more towards the six month. The longer you wait the more likely it is for the male kitten to get stud tail (hormones related and the base of the tail gets very greasy). My male cat is a complete lunatic and he's 17 months old! He thinks nothing about using anyone sitting near where he wants to be as a launching pad LOL.

I usually neuter my animals at about 6 months. We had no idea how old Meeko was until we took him in. Two weeks ago he was 10 months, 10 pounds, 10 ozs... :p

Max is now my most rambunctious cat, he's 2 and the smallest of my brood. He and Meeko are a team... while my little "ladies" look at them in total shock! :earseek: :earseek:

Robinrs,
That sounds like a big kitty!
We had one come in a few weeks ago, don't remember how old it is, but it weighed in at 20 pounds! Now that is a cat!!

My DD's cat, Kit, goes crazy at about midnight every night.

Her fave thing is to get on my dining room table and pull the paper napkins out of the basket and eat them!
(just chews some of the corners off) Then she decides to knock anything off the table she does not want to be there.

My other two are Molly-9 and Daisy-10. They are pretty content and don't do much damage anymore.

Here's hoping y'all can wait that long! LOL;)

The breeder told me 10 months because she says that Maine Coon's mature later than other cats??? I have no idea about that and plan to call my vet and ask his opinion.

He is FINALLY asleep and it has taken all my self control not to go take a nap myself! I lost him while ago and he was climbing the coke boxes by the refridgerator. How so much energy can be in that one little bundle of fur...LOL!

I am assuming that it won't hurt them if they eat any of the toilet paper or something like tissues or paper towels/napkins? The mess that I found appeared that she had to have eaten some of the toilet paper but she never got puky sick.

Nah it won't hurt her....it will just come out the other way...LOL! Mindy used to love to do that until she grew up and fat and now she sleeps all the time!

Oh! You are sooo lucky! I would love a Maine Coon Dog....er...cat!
They are so big! They have great personalities!

I would def. check with your vet, cause you don't want your kitty spraying in the house. That is a nasty odor you can never get rid of.

Lisajl

Lisa you are exactly right!! He is just like a dog, follows me everywhere, is very vocal and seems to like everyone! I'm so in love with him:)

His breeder said he should get very very big....here is a pic of his mom and dad. He has his mom's colors.

Wow! Didn't realize that pic was so big, if one of the mods would fix it for me that would be great!

Sounds a lot like my Gwenie :) She is half coon but I swear that 1/2 non coon doesn't exist in her!!! She is 2 1/2 now and a big and beautiful girl... she's calmed down... a little.

Enjoy your fubaby, Beth... he looks and sounds adorable!
