My New England Scrapbook (In progress: Updated 4-13-08)

Wow, fantastic pages! I agree about the felt border, it was definitely worth the trouble. I've had my eye on that particular felt and now I think I'm going to get it. And Stamped too!

New pages! Yeah! I didn't get to photograph all the pages I worked on this last weekend because my camera batteries were dying on me, but I got a few of them photographed. :)

All the paper used in these layouts is Basic Grey.

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (Concord, MA) - For all of these I used Stamped for the title. For the text I included a little bit of their biography and a quote from them, as well as a photo of them.

Nathaniel Hawthorne - Just as a funny note here, the line of paper I used for his was called "Scarlet Letter". :lmao: My sister and I found it amusing.

I don't have Ralph Waldo Emerson's done yet.

Minute Man National Historical Park (Concord, MA) - The next couple of layouts are all from the battleground at Concord.

A Walk Amongst History - I had all these neat photos of the trail and the woods that were begging to be used for a layout. I used Alphalicious and Opposites Attract for the title. The quote in the corner is from Ralph Waldo Emerson. Have you figured out yet that I like Emerson. ;) The journaling is going on top of the other photo, but I didn't attach it yet. I was going to wait until I photographed it.

The Old North Bridge - I really like how this one turned out. I used Stamped for the title. When we were planning this trip I really wanted to go to this particular place because I knew I could used Emerson's "Concord Hymn" for a layout. This is one of my favorite poems, though I think technically its a hymn. It was sung at the dedication of the monument. I printed it off the computer on cardstock then chalked the edges. Then I balled it up and crumbled it. Finally I ripped a couple of the eges to really make it look old. I did the same with the journaling block that has been blurred out.

Yet again more terrific layouts!!! :)
Thank you so much for sharing and the inspiration!!!

Off to finish the CJ I'm working on, I had a moment of clarity yesterday and inspiration hit and I don't want to lose it..so I need to get a lot done today..and of course this weekend..

Thanks again for the inspiration

Very, very nice! :) I live in MA and I love how much our state has to offer.

This is not a criticism, but did you intend to have the *S* upside down in HISTORY? Or is it supposed to be that way?

Thank you And to answer your question: that is the way the S in Alphalicious goes. I always have to look before I glue those letters down because they are kind of different.

Your layouts are absolutely beautiful!! Thank you for sharing!! :)

Beautiful layouts!

I always flip my Alphalicious S's upside down because I don't like the way the cartridge intends them.

I never thought I wanted Stamped, but I see that you use it a lot. Is it one of your favorites?

New layouts! Yay! I finally took pictures of a few, though the photos aren't that great. I might try to re-photograph them later.

Lobster Cove

Lobster Cove was the name of the restaurant where we ate lunch in York, ME. We had a very nice view of the ocean while eating lunch. My sister tried lobster for the first time, which she said was "OK."

I used Opposites Attract for the title. I also used OA for the trapazoid that I used for journaling. The lobster is an embellishment from Jolees. The red scalloped paper I bought from the LSS, which I think is by Bazzill. The white I know is Bazzill. The blue paper is Bo Bunny. The one series of photos on page 2 is my sister playing with her lobster tail. It was really funny.

I want Candy

This layout is of the Ye Olde Pepper Companie in Salem, MA. After our tour of the House of the Seven Gables we walked across the street to Ye Olde Pepper Companie. The candy was quite good. I got an assortment of chocolates with different creme fillings. My sister got chocolate covered cashews. We each got a chocolate covered oreo.

For the layout I used Mickey Font for the words "want" and "Candy" and Base Camp for the "I" I used stickles around the "I" and the boxes of "candy." I saved my box and copied the top on cardstock and used that in the layout. The paper I believe is Basic Grey.

A Guiding Light

This is Cape Neddick Lighthouse in York, ME. The lighthouse is an embellishment from Jolees. I created the "light" with a piece of yellow vellum and chalked the edges to make it stand out just a bit more. The font is Base Camp.

Those are beautiful!! I especially love the red scalloped paper on the Lobster one! Great job!!! :)

Finally took some more pictures. :) The first one is the layout I worked on this past weekend

The Freedom Trail - Boston
This is the intro page for the Freedom Trail in Boston. If you get a chance to go to Boston, definitely take the Freedom Trail. It is a 2.5-mile walk around the city to 16 significant historical sites. We had a lot of fun despite the 90 degree weather in October. :scared:

I used Base Camp for the title and George for the stars. The little stars on the F and T are brads. The circle picture looks strange because we couldn't fit the entire circle in the frame of the picture, which is why the top is flat. I printed the photos in black and white with a fancy border.

The blue cardstock is Bazzil. The main pattern paper is called Player 2 by Around the Block.

Orchard House - Concord

Orchard House is the home where Louisa May Alcott wrote the book, Little Women. In fact, she based the home in Little Women on Orchard House. I used Base Camp for the title because it resembled the font on the sign for the house. For the journaling and quote I tea stained the paper then chalked the edges. I didn't have a piece of cardstock the shade I wanted so I soaked it in tea to achieve the crumpled, old look. The pictures on the second page are actually post cards since they don't allow photography inside Orchard House.

Paper is by Cosmo Cricket - Gretel: Fairy Tales

Minute Man National Historical Park - Concord

This is the intro page for Minute Man National Historical Park in Concord, MA. The photos at the bottom are of a pond on the trail to the visitor center. On side at the bottoms are rub on leafy swirls, that are sort of hard to see in the photos, but show up a lot better in person. I used Base Camp for the title and printed the other part of on the computer because I didn't want to cut out and glue "national historical park." ;) For some reason these ones didn't photograph as well.

Paper is Basic Grey. Brown cardstock is Bazzil. Not sure who made the rub on swirls, will have to look later to see.

The Capture of Paul Revere - Concord

Along the battleroad at Minute Man National Historical Park in Concord, MA is the spot where British soldiers caught Paul Revere on the night of April 18/19, 1775 as he was riding to warn other patriots of the British troops movement towards Concord, but he never made it to Concord. The only rider who did was Dr. Samuel Prescott who managed to get away from the troops by jumping a fence and riding into the woods. William Dawes, the other rider who started out from Boston with Revere, escaped, but fell off his horse and didn't make it either. Paul Revere was actually taken back to Lexington until the start of the fighting there on the morning of April 19, 1775. Adn interesting historical note, he never shouted, "the Redcoats are coming!" but "the regulars are coming out!" A lot of misinformation comes from Longfellow's poem, "The Ride of Paul Revere," which I quoted two lines from on the one journaling block.

I used Base Camp and Stamped for the title. Paper is Basic Grey.

Another great bunch of layouts... Can't wait to see more... You give me a lot of inspiration... Hopefully DsS's game will last a while tonight keeping DH out so I can finish his book for Christmas... although all my packages are wrapped!!!!! :)

Beautiful layouts as always. Your layouts always look very classy.

Rebecca

Your layouts are wonderful and would like to say well done & how talented you are:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :) :) :) :)

Wow! I even live in NE and haven't seen half of these sites. I think I'll have to go exploring this summer. :-) Thanks for sharing!

The most amazing part of your entire scrapbook is that it introduces so many to the beauties and history which New England has. Even though I live in the western part of the state, over the years I have been able to bring my middle school students to a number of the places you have highlighted here. By far their favorite is Salem - the Witch Museum and The House of Seven Gables.
Were you able to go into the hidden rooms? I am so happy that you and your sister had this great experience.
Beyond words would describe your pages so far!!! Keep them coming. Caroline

Absolutely beautiful!!!!

We just went to Ma this past summer, and visited many of the places you've scrapped. I must admit my pictures are nothing like yours.....but I'm hoping I can scraplift a few of your ideas & adapt them to m pics!

One ? - where did you get the map of freedom trail? did you just reduce the larger one????

TFS!!!!
