I am shocked!! He is 19. He is stationed in the Air Force in Florida.

Apparently a few weeks ago, he called my mom to say he was marrying this girl in Sept. He had been on his way down to Fl, stopped at a friends along the way and he introduced them. They spent two days together, then he went on to Fl. They ended up spending one more week together and then decided they would get married in Sept.

Well, needless to say that shocked me a bit, but I thought at least September would give them a bit more time to get to know each other.

His mom called yesterday and said that he had gone to pick her up to stay in Flor for a few days. They got into an argument with her mom and dad because they are totally against the wedding, so they drove off and eloped!!

They now plan on a church wedding on June 28th.

I can't believe it!

So you haven't met the bride? How long have they known each other?

Why is everyone against the wedding? age?

Best wishes to the new couple. :)

Well, if they're in love I say more power to 'em. They didn't want anyone getting in the way of that love obviously.

He is 19 and she is 18. They have known each other for approximatley 2 months, but have only been together (in each other's presence) for 9 actual days.....two days on his way to Florida and one week after he was down there.

Love at first sight?

Yeah, I mean they're young, but I know you were young, too, when you married. However, you at least knew your DH.

Sounds impetous to me, maybe he was lonely away from home, etc. I hope it works out. I really hope they wait several years before starting a family.

I usually don't feel this way, but right now...wedding/funeral they are the same.

I was 19 when I married. I think the minimum age should be 35+ :)

you never know. I was 27 when I got married, and met him when I was 19 and he was 21, and it was a disaster. other people manage to make a go of it even when the odds are against them.

I hope it all works out for the best for your nephew, Kristy.

It sounds like they were in more of a hurry to defy everyone than anything. For their sake I hope it works out.

Well.......my DH proposed to me 2 weeks after we met. We had a 1 1/2 year long engagement though. Next week we'll be celebrating 9 happy years of marriage. So, it could work, but they are young. I was 32 when I met my DH (he was 24). I knew what I was looking for & I guess he did too. ;) We had to endure lots of obstacles too since his family was not at all pleased with our age difference, but it works for us.

I hope your nephew will truly find happiness with his new bride. I sincerely hope it wasn't out of spite that he married so quickly. Maybe they were just old souls that finally reconnected...who knows? Try to be supportive since I'm sure there will be lots of people trying to undermine their new marriage.

My DH and I were married at 19 and this year will be celebrating our 15th Anniversary. Good luck to the happy couple.

Sometimes these things work out Kristy. Hopefully this will be one of them.

Just think of the stories they can tell their grandkids about this if they stay married.:)

Well you never know. We got engaged 2 months after meeting each other and got married a year later. I was 18 when we got married. We will be celebrating 29 yrs. this Oct. On top of getting married so young, in the first 6 years of marriage we had 4 children, 1 child died, his parents divorced and said it was because of my ds who died, my dm had colon cancer and my df had a brain tumor, both my grandparents died, we moved in with my db & dsil (who got married 6 weeks before we did) and bought a house together. Statistically we should not have made it through the first 5 years.

my grandparents married after knowing each other for only 11 days. Amazing! They were married for over 50 years when my grandfather passed away.

Hope it works out for your nephew.

My folks were married at 18 & in August they'll have been together 32 years & still very much in love. They did know each other for a while though.

I personally will wait until I've dated someone through the holidays to see how they act. I think it's a good indication on how they deal with stress & interact with other people they might not like, but have to be around.

It will be tough on them but it can be done. My dh and I started going together in July and were married 3 months later. We will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary this coming October. People told us upfront that they didn't think we would make it through the 1st 5 years. It hasn't always been easy but we stuck with it.

They have no idea what lies ahead of them. Marriage to a kid that age isn't what marriage is all about. They didn't know wach other that long, how does he knoe if she passes gas every night or picks her nose then doesn't wash her hands. So young. Ooops, I shouldn't be so down but as a mother of a 20 yr old I would be upset and disappointed that I didn't instill more morals in him throughout hiw growing yrs.
