My neighbors are digging a pool!!

While I'm concerned mainly about my own kids safety, I think there is more to their safety than not drowning. I'd have no interest in my kids walking out to find one of their friends dead in the pool either. My fence would be built for purely selfish reasons, protect my assets from someone suing, protect my children from tragedy because my neighbors can't keep track of their kids.

Moot though, we require pools be fenced with an eight foot fence, locks be 4 feet above the ground - and I'm not a good candidate for a pool - too much work!

I'm sorry that you don't WANT your pool fenced, but fencing a pool should not have anything to do with the "look" that you "want" for your home. Fencing a pool should be mandatory to protect small children from drowning. Yes - I do fear for my children. How could you sleep at night knowing that a child would be unprotected in your backyard? Last spring during a rummage sale my 5 year old opened the gate (took off the lock which we didn't know he could do) to let a 3 year old "see" the pool. The mother and I were talking when I noticed they were not with us - I ran back to the pool and the 3 year old was WALKING on the pool liner. He would have died if it had been one month later when the pool was opened. His mother and I both could not believe how FAST it all happened... we were talking about 1-2 minutes.

You don't seem to be really reading to what this poster said. First, she's putting a concrete wall around her property (isn't that sort of like a fence?)
and the netting across the pool is designed so children can't fall into the water. Like she said, she needs to protect her own children against falls in the pool, also, and they'll be inside of the wall.

no need to be rude...

but we also live across the street from a canal and the other end of our street is the Gulf of Mexico.... there is NO barrier at all on any of part of the canal - Nor the beach. As I said - ours will be "walled" with a cement wall...so I will be able to sleep fine.

I have a fenced in below ground pool (8 foot high all around the back yard) and a 2nd fence stockade accross the front. My neighbor deceided that since I have a fence he only needed a fence at the front of his property 3 foot picket. It is mandatory to have a fence here in MA.

I asked him how much his insurance was (very nicely) I told him I have 1 million just for the pool area as that was recomended by my insurance agent. We had just recently had a local child drown in a pool accident and the pool owners were in court for neglect. About 2 weeks later a fence company showed up to put up the fence.

He was a little miffed as I told him he could not attach to my fences. He was trying to get away cheaper which if his son hadn't already cost me $$ replacing part of my fence by climbing it and bending the top rail, I would have said yes but when he saw it was bent he told me "It's your fence why should I pay for the repair. UGGG."

I also have a motion detector and signs all around my property "No trespassing police take notice." I have a camera in each of my rear trees that takes pictures of any movement and transmits directly to the police station. I turn this on when we are not home and in the evening. I did this wnen I came home one night from an overnight trip sick and found this same neighbor in my pool with his friends using my grill. LOL Talk about make yourself at home. He even was using the Ice I had in my outside freezer.
