I had cinnamon-roasted mealworms one time as part of a school project, and they were good!

That being said, as a kid I was eating Peanut-Butter Crunch one morning and tasted something odd. I looked down and I had mealworms in my bowl.

To this day I can't eat that cereal.

They are mealworms. Maggots don't live on candy. Mealworms do look similar to maggots though. I got an almond joy once that was covered in mealyworms.

I picked up some fruit bars at a store once when I was on my trip at WDW. I open up the package and was just about to take a bite when something caught my eye. It was alive with little white wormy things. Needless to say they were immediately scratched off my favorites list.

Not an Urban Legend...a real thing.

That happened to me one time when eating a Cadbury bar - I opened it and it was all webby inside with a worm in it. Took it to the manager & he gave me another one - I checked that one before leaving the store. ugh

When I was a child, my mom bought me a Reeses. When I opened it in the car, bugs flew out

Be sure to always check the date on chocolate-especially if it has peanut butter in it. The shelf life for chocolate with peanut butter, nuts etc is about half that of plain chocolate. For Hershey products it will have a code like 8L-8 is the year (2008, 2009 etc) and L is the month (A=January, B=February etc). If something is just a month or so out of date it should be fine but it gets dicier when peanut butter is in there. You would not believe how many out of date products are on the grocery shelves. Stuff does not get rotated like it should. Be very leary of candy in the independent dollar stores and low volume convenience stores. Some of that stuff is out of date before they buy it

blargh! I remember being on a class trip in the 2nd grade. The girl next to me had brought in her lunch one of those huge Mr. Goodbar's and opened it and it was covered with worms, like every inch covered!!!
It took me over 20 years to even look at a Mr. Goodbar again!!!

Thank God I didn't buy any chocolate this year (Reese's were my favorites until I read this story). I don't think I'll ever look at a Reeses' the same again!

The same thing happened to my step-dad. He bought one at a hardware store so it was probably quite old. To this day I can't eat Reese's peanut butter cups. (this was over 15 years ago). yuck yuck yuck!!!

I love Reeses. But today after reading this I couldn't do it. I broke the pumpkin one open to make sure no bugs- one bite and I had to throw it out. My hips and butt thank you for posting. I think I am off the reeses.
