My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

Is there a HS or MS with a track or a park with a track or path where the kids could play while you run laps? Just being outside helps!

That's something I need to look into. I want to find all of the areas around Virginia Beach that I can run. Even when Chuck is home and I can do my runs outside, we don't live in a great area for running. I'll need to drive somewhere. I'm sure I'll do some on the boardwalk, but I'd like to do some on trails in the woods too.

Cynthia- that's a great idea to get onto a track. The kids could monkey around on the bleachers or bring a ball to kick around on the field.

Carissa- How about Jellyrolls or YeeHaw Bob for some evening fun. Or going to the Poly Lobby to sit by the lounge ( you don't even have to drink, just people watch with coffee or a (gasp!) a board game or cards.

Photo scavenger hunt??

Who/what is YeeHaw Bob? :confused3 Chuck and I love games/cards. :goodvibes

I had a few favorite "adult" things that I did on my last trip. The best was my trip to the GF spa. Wonderfully relaxing. I want to try to repeat it on my next trip. I've also really loved doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour at the Magic Kingdom. Almost as good as the spa day, was just spending time in the parks and around the resorts at a slow pace. My spa day I spent a bunch of time exploring the GF and the Poly. It was wonderful!

Using the spa at GF would also get me over there to check it out - something I've been meaning to do for a long time. :thumbsup2

Thank you to everyone for your great ideas! Please keep them coming! I'm going to keep a list here and add to it as more suggestions get mentioned.

* Fun Things to Plan for This Trip *

* Eat at a signature restaurant (Cali Grill, Jiko, Flying Fish)
* Book a tour (segway?)
* Spa
* Shop in the WS (souvenir from each country - thanks Liesa!)
* Have a drink by the pool
* Hall of Presidents
* Go to Poly lobby and/or beach to watch Wishes
* See Yeehaw Bob at POR
* Check out Jellyrolls
* Boma dinner on Saturday after the half

Our very tentative plans:

When: January 6th - 10th
Who: Chuck and I or just me if Chuck can't get away
Where: CSR
How: Fly and rely on Disney Transportation
Why: For me to run the half-marathon and have a relaxing (romantic) trip :love:

~ W2D3.1 ~

I repeated week 2 today. Yesterday, I did The Biggest Loser on the wii for the first time and the first workout was legs. I knew I should have done something else, but I didn't realize Bob was going to go psycho on the squats. :scared1: My butt and thighs were quite sore this morning. :rolleyes1

I thought about using today as my full rest day, but I thought running might not be too bad once I got warmed up. And it wasn't. My legs were very tired by the end, but it was better than my last run. My attitude was much improved, and while I didn't LOVE the workout, I didn't mind it. The only complaint that I have was my lungs just aren't catching up like I would like them to. It takes me the entire two minute brisk walk to be able to take a deep breath. Just as I feel like I'm starting to recover from the run, it's time to run again. And maybe that's how it's supposed to be.

I did cut the 5th run interval short by about 30 seconds. I wanted to give myself a little extra time to recover so that I could finish my final run strong. I'm having a difficult time allowing myself to adjust the program to fit ME. I feel like I've failed if I don't do everything I'm supposed to and I realize this is something I need to work on. I am carrying a lot of extra weight and I'm sure that makes everything harder. I need to focus on the fact that I have stuck with this program consistently for over two weeks and I am now running for a total of nine minutes out of every 30. :thumbsup2 I will reach my goal. I might not get to it as quickly as I would like, but it's all about the journey right now. I am making changes - both mentally and physically and I need to be proud of what I'm doing instead of getting hung up on what week I'm on.

My totals for today:

Speed: 3.5 for warm up, 4.0 for jogs/3.4 - 3.5 for brisk walks, 3.5 --> 3.3 cool down
Duration: 30 minutes
Distance: 1.8 miles

In this post there is a link to the Yeehaw Bob show over at Port Orleans Riverside. He is a one-man piano sing-along show.

Check him out!! Everyone says he's a must-do.

Goodness. I feel like I should have known that since we stayed at POR. :rolleyes1

:cloud9:Lucky you........That would make the running easier :)

Definitely. The ocean is my special place. I may also do some runs on the beach. There's a military base just a few minutes away that has an awesome beach. It's not as crowded as the main one in Virginia Beach where all of the tourists go.

Great workout!! I'm pretty sore today too, but from way less than what your doing.

I think YeeHaw Bob is a bit of a hidden treasure than not a lot of folks know about. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in Sept!

Great job! :cheer2: Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

No workout for me today... definitely tomorrow. :thumbsup2

:cheer2: Yea Carissa! The most important thing is consistency and you are doing great with that! The other stuff will come and yes those extra pounds make it a bit tougher:rolleyes1 I told Liz that is why she runs faster than me. I have some extra baggage on my runs. (That's my excuse anyway). Great job!

I do think I remember hearing something about someone performing at POR, but our kids are in bed pretty early and I think that's why we never got to see him.

Here's an installment from my completed TR from last summer that covers some of YeeHaa Bob's show. I highly recommend it!

That was great! He looks like a ton of fun. :goodvibes I'll definitely put that on my list. :thumbsup2

Thanks Jenny. I didn't realize how much this whole process would be a mental challenge in so many ways. It's very good for me. :)

:dance3: Great job, Carissa!!! :dance3: Keep up the great work!!! :dance3:

I wanted to clarify something...I said as a tour, Walk in Walt's Footsteps...ugh, that is here in DL. We did Keys to the Kingdom at WDW!! :blush:

:woohoo: Ohhh and someone mentioned Jellyrolls.........ABSOLUTELY, that is just soooooo much fun!!! :woohoo:

I would love to try the Segway tour!! I see people at DL at CA on this tour allot and they are all laughing and having the best time. I wanted to mention to you, Carissa, that AAA members and Disney Visa members get a discount....so it you are planning to do the Segway if you have either, I believe it is 20% OFF the tour!!! :thumbsup2

I've heard of Jellyrolls, but I can't quite place it now. I'll have to look around.

I've known a few people who did the segway tour and I think it would be a ton of fun. :thumbsup2

For pampering I've done both the GF pedicure and a massage at WL. For me, for bang for the buck, the massage won, hands down. The pedicure was nice, don't get me wrong but...just a personal preference. And I love a good pedicure! I think though if I were to go back to the GF I'd probably go for something else.

For me, just to be able to wander, REALLY wander through the World Showcase and take as much time as I need and want without kids getting impatient or bored...that would be amazing!

Congrats on the workouts and for sticking with it. It is a roller coaster for sure!

Carissa, I was just wondering if there was any special childcare since Chuck is out to sea. It seems like our base had something to help give spouses a break when their loved ones were deployed. Or maybe a mothers day out program?

I can't think of anything to do that hasn't been mentioned. Are you a drinker? I would love to go wander the WS and try out a drink in each country with my hubby. Can't do that when we just drive up for the day.

Thanks! Looks like a lot of fun. And I've always wanted to visit the Boardwalk. :goodvibes

I have issues with my neck and shoulders so a massage is always high on my list. :thumbsup2 I'm really looking forward to visiting the World Showcase without the boys and being able to check out things I've never had a chance to before - like all of the movies.

I don't know, Melissa. I get regular emails from the Family Readiness Group and I haven't heard any mention of anything like that. Mother's Day Out programs are not really set up to watch school aged children. And honestly, I'm quite picky about who watches my kids and I'm not real big on meeting new people. I've been burned so many times in the past that I kind of like to stick to myself.

But, really - I'm okay with only being able to run on the treadmill right now. :thumbsup2 I have plenty of time to train outside. Right now it's about building endurance and losing weight.

I am a drinker. :rotfl: Guess you've never noticed my many mentions of my beloved Guinness. ;) But, I have stopped drinking alcohol and coffee for the moment. Drinking alcohol at WDW would be okay after the half-marathon, but I wouldn't want to be drinking before.

I remember that. I don't know if that's how it supposed to be, but it was like that for me too. It does get easier though, you will see! :) Keep it up (and repeat weeks as necessary)!

As you know I did the Segway Tour in Epcot and LOVED it. I highly recommend it. Just do it before the half not after. I originally considered doing the Ft. Wilderness one on Sunday this past trip. I'm glad I didn't do it. I was feeling much better that morning, but still a bit sore, and it would have been distracting and maybe annoying during the tour. I can't wait to do another Segway tour though, boy was that fun!

So glad to know you dealt with that too. Definitely helps me to know I'm still on track. :goodvibes

I wouldn't have even thought about doing the tour before the race. Good tip. :thumbsup2

You've got some good options lined up for your time! Very excited to see which one you end up choosing. So for the Wine and Dine, will you be going to the late night party??

:confused3 I think you have me confused with someone else. I'm planning on doing the half-marathon in January. I think the wine and dine is in October?
