My life may turn upside down tomorrow! Okay with that!

I'm not understanding something. You originally posted that your DH was hoping to get a job in Alaska. He didn't get the job, but you're still moving there? Even though neither of you has something lined up at this point? I'm not trying to be critical, but I do wish you luck, and it all works out for you guys.

BuzzBellesMom.
Yes, he was the first to apply and did not get hired for that position but was told that if we do move to come to them immediately and they will have a job for him. We have lived their before and anyone with a work ethic and some good skills will get a job. Probably not the great job we were hoping for but a good job non the less. And Yes, I applied also for teaching jobs. I interviewed and did not get the first job. My experience was not as good a fit as someone else. They requested that I apply for another position that they have available and I have. They are interviewing next week and today they called all my references( very good sign). We will go to Alaska if one of us gets the "good" job. My job will be about 20,000.00 more per year than what I am making now. Hubby will make about 10,000.00 more with just about any job. He has so many of the skills they really need there, that he will do fine. We are not running off willy nilly without research and actually knowing what we are doing. Too many responsibility genes to do that , although it does sound fun to do one time. Anyway, I am very likely to get a position. If I do not get hired, we will not go and tough it out here somehow. THanks for your interest in my saga.

Fingers still crossed, B.

My daughter got her call yesterday. She had been offered a job teaching English in Korea last week, but held out for-and got!- a primary class  of her own in the Canadian School of Egypt in Cairo. She is VERY excited to say the least, but really nervous. She's asked me to go with her in August to help get her settled. We'll see what the mentors will be suggesting, but I'm excited and nervous for her, too. Since I know nothing about the area, I'll be doing a lot of research. Thank heavens for Skype!

Here's hoping that you have GREAT news soon! pixiedust:

I did my 2nd set of interviewing by Skype on Wed. 4/21. I went into it thinking I was interviewing for a High School Special Ed. position and they also offered a 2nd or 3rd grade regular classroom positions also. Be flexible, I kept thinking! THe interview went well and they said they would be making a decision on Thurs. Well, Thurs. came and went with no news. Was a little concerned but needed to be patient. Many little good signs all day on Wed. led me to believe that was a going to be a good day. Well, they emailed me today and offered me a Kindergarten or 5th grade position!! I took the Kindergarten position!! Really excited !!! So much planning to do!!Wheww!!! Hubby is really excited too. We will be off in Early August to the Arctic Ocean!!

Congrats to Debbie's daughter!! Just the opposite of me. I am going to the cold and she to the hot! They are actually both deserts though. Enjoy your adventure!!!!

Beckie, that is AWESOME news! DD will be teaching Kindergarten, too, in Cairo! Maybe a Flat Stanley project-from cold to hot. lol

Seriously, I am so glad that things are what you want them to be, and that they are now well on the way. You must be SOOOOOO excited. Congratulations!

Adding my congratulations! I think the idea of a Flat Stanley project is a great one! My son did this in Ktg. and he loved it!

Oh, how wonderful for you! Teaching Kindergarten should be a lot of fun.

:)

Updating for those who were interested in our grand Alaskan adventure.
Well, 2 nights ago the school district I am working in called and said they have a job and want my hubby to apply. They even took his old app. and redated a cover sheet and faxed it to him. He signed and sent back. It is a great job, a bit less pay but super location and benefits. The job closes on the 7th , so we will know shortly after that. I finish my school year the 7th and have a monster amount of paperwork to do for my job and get a ton of notes ready for the new person coming in because they have not hired anyone yet. My Mom is coming to my house next week and having cataract surgery on Wed. She will be here until Friday. Wed. night we are having a family dinner to celebrate daughter's boyfriend's birthday. Then I have one week and we are leaving on a vacation to Colo. for 11-12 days. During that time our niece is moving here from Montana to live in our house with our daughter while we are gone. She has never lived away from home and is 24 , so it is a bit scary for her. When we get back , she will be here. We will be home for 5 days and off to a 4th of July family reunion for 3 days. Back for 1 day and I begin teaching summer school. Hubby may need to leave 3 weeks before me , so I will end up doing all the extra work (cleaning, packing, storing and shipping) Wahoo!! Then to oldest son's masters ceremony. Home for 5 days and back to Mpls (220 miles) and fly out to Alaska. Whew!! When I land in Anchorage, Hubby will be joining me. We will finish all the shopping, packing and shipping in 48 hours and then off to Barrow. We land on Sunday evening and I go to work on Monday at 8:00. Hopefully , there won't be any big crisises that will need to be fit into this schedule, there is not room!! Still invigorating! Loving all the change but not the tons of work! I will be so happy to sit in my plane seat and breathe.

Becky, it sounds like your life is a (very FULL) whirlwind right now. Your attitude is amazing. Congrats to your DH on his new job! It will be surprising how fast the time will go. Try to take a few minutes every day, just for you-10 minutes of yoga, walking, reading, soaking a bath, DISing-anything that will keep you healthy, invigorated, and, yes, as relaxed as you can be with all the changes. You are worth it! Take care. And thanks for the update!

How exciting! Barrow Alaska... I hope that you'll post what it's like.

Congratulations! You certainly have a busy summer ahead of you, but it's going to be exciting!

Please PLEASE when you have time, post now and then to let us know what life is like there. I've always been curious. What an adventure!

Thank you again for all the support. I am taking my "10 minutes of me time" with my kitty curled up on my lap with a great cup of coffee. Getting ready for another assult on the closets in my house and the boxes in the garage. Determined to sort , save and sell the things that are in my house and garage. I will be posting when I can. I think their internet is a bit slower and unpredictable than what I have here. I did hear they are updating over the summer but it will probably take a full year to be in place for everyone. The next 10 days will be crazy but then I will be done with one job and have full days to work on things. I love ready the interest from all of you. My goal is to learn to post some pictures so you can actually view the world at the top of the globe. Have a fabulous weekend.

Debbie,
How is your daughter and her great Egyptian adventure.? She must be extremely excited about her first teaching job and her move. I wish her the best. Hopefully she can take some "me" time this summer too. I would expect she will have a great support system in Egypt. Best of everything to her!!

Great adventure! We lived in Alaska for 2 years, in Anchorage, my 6th and 7th grade years. We drove our pickup w/ camper top, pulling a small u-haul all the way there (and back, when we moved back). I remember my little brother and I laying on the bed in the camper above the pickup cab and watching grizzly bears run along beside us- the highway was gravel and pretty primative in places back then! We had 7 flat tires each way:scared1:! My dad worked for the pipeline- in Barrow! He would fly up for 2 weeks of work and then fly back to Anchorage for 2 weeks. I remember he had to take polar bear training- what to do if you encountered one. Best of luck- Alaska is a breathtakingly beautiful place!
