Effective January 2008, Disney-MGM Studios will be renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios

So-long, Disney-MGM Studios. In a widely anticipated move, Walt Disney World is renaming its movies-oriented theme park, dropping the disputed "MGM" name from the brand. But unlike much of what has been anticipated in Disney-gossip circles, the new name will contain neither Pixar nor ABC.

Disney's Hollywood Studios will debut in January, Disney World officials announced today.

"The new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer -- in music, television, movies and theater," Disney World President Meg Crofton stated in a news release.
Disney-MGM studios opened on May 1, 1989, and the original lineup of attractions was weighed heavily toward images and themes drawn from Hollywood's "golden age" of the 1920s-'40s. Since then, however, shows, rides and other attractions have drawn much from Disney's television shows and more modern movies.

The name MGM was originally adopted for the park through a 1985 licensing agreement with MGM movies company that had its origins as Metro Goldwyn Mayer. However, in the 1990s the two corporations sparred in court several times over Disney's use of the name. In 1992 Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Curtis B. Rappe ruled that Disney retained rights to the name for Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World, but that MGM had rights to the name in most other uses, including a theme park MGM wanted to build in Las Vegas.

Almost ever since, speculation has centered on whether Disney would drop MGM from its name. Officials had long denied that the theme park would be renamed either as Disney-ABC Studios, in honor of the broadcast network owned by the Walt Disney Co., or as Disney-Pixar Studios, in honor of the computer animation movie company that Disney bought last year.

Crofton said the new name, "Disney's Hollywood Studios," reflects the park's present and future.

"As a park all about entertainment, Disney's Hollywood Studios will deliver like never before," she stated in the release. "Now we can say that Hollywood is literally our middle name."

I like the sound of hollywood studios ....

I can't believe it is almost here, it is 22 days for us

I am so bummed that RnR will be closed, oh well!! At least we got to ride it in Nov/Dec when we were there. In 2001 I didn't get to ride it cuase I was pregnant.

So, that is so cool that they are renaming MGM, I think I like the sound if it too "Disney's Hollywood Studios" yep , I think I like it.

So quick question here, how do you get those Disney News??

i too am a planner,well learning to be,...not been on a trip so fantastic before.....this is way different than a tri to the beach for the week! i can't wait to read your info and about the kids outfits! the 1st thing i did when i got money for my birthday this year was hit the disney store for shirts for me and my daughter and my grandkids elli 5 and blaze 3 who we are going with! i lucked out and they were having a sale !...so the kids got pj's and flipflops too! check in with ya soon!

I saw some high school musical tees in size 4 at walmart ..
it should fit your 3t because walmart tees get alittle smaller the 1st time wash them
go check them out.. they were only $6.00 I think

I bought her a Mickey and princess shirt at walmart and Rebekah's HM shirt there but didn't see one in size 4.I will check again though.

I am one of the lucky ones-I will be riding RnRC on 9/2.

I like the new name too.

We did the "next month today" thing, too. What was really fun was when we were doing the "next WEEK on this day, we'll be at Chef Mickey's", or whatever other activity! Now we're back to "four months from today", and that's not quite as fun. I wish I could go during free dining sometime, but since I'm a teacher, my open dates to go don't line up with when that is offered.

I picked up a sewing machine off of freecycle and I am going to get my sister to help me start sewing. My 12 year old has been begging me to make her some bows to wear with their uniforms.

No, I haven't called the Coral Reef yet. I spent most of last week debating moving our trip to an entirely different week. I still have a few more days to get straight and then I will call the Coral Reef. I did mention the idea to my DH as a way to surprise the other couple that will be with us and he thought it would be a great idea.

So last time i was talking about Lime green and other colors Mickey heads..

What will you make with your MHPC's? Our last trip with the kids, I just cut out each head and punched a hole at the top. I took them and put string through the holes and made a garland that we hung up in our window at All-Star Movies. My DH thought I was crazy to go to so much trouble, but the kids loved them.

I am loving your trip report, I am so excited about our upcoming trip, we will be at ASMU from Sept 12-18. My daughter will turn 5 while we are there, i definitely have to call Coral Reef and see about the sign, she would be so EXCITED to see it. But I have the ADR's at home and I am at work. We will be there on Sept 15, i just dont remember what time? Oh well I will look it up and call tommorow. I love your daughters clothes that you made, I have my MIL making one that I saw on EBAY for my daughter to wear one of the days. Other than that we just have cute Disney short sets as it will be HOT!!

I just got off of the phone with Coral Reef and it might be bad news in the future. The gentleman that I spoke to said that he would have to call me back after a decision is made whether or not to start charging for the diver banners starting in January. I am guessing that they have had such a huge response that they are considering making a dollar or two.

I hope that if they decide to charge that it will be an affordable price.

I went shopping yesterday and picked up a few more things

I picked up more glow sticks , we are up to 8 tubes now
a pooh bear flashing pin for james
and cindi one for Alexis
and i picked up a new misty mate I love these things when its hot ...
What is it you asked ..I will tell you ...
You put water in it - then pump it up and turn it on .it will blow a nice cool mist on you ,
( Hint ) but if you put water with ice .. you will get a nice cold mist Great for those very hot days at disney..
(another HInt)while in the park, if you need a refill ask a cast member for a cup of ice and they will give it to you for free and fill it up with water in the bathroom .. refill your misty mate

The misty mate only cost $6.99 at walmart.. Its way cheaper then the $16/$18 waterbottle fans they sell at disney world .
if The misty mate is not for you, & you want the water bottle fan kind, they also have them at walmart for around $6. much cheaper then disney .. get yours early and save money ....
Its still very hot in orlando in sept.... so plan a head for the heat...

I saw the water fans at walmart for 6.oo, almost bought one but decided against it. I think I would rather have one from disney. DO you remember if they hang around your neck? I think they do but not positive.

Planning is going great .. The kids are doing very well in school and me well that i different story but i'm making it.... I will say I do get alot of stuff done now...LOL
