My kitty has ... DRY EYE????

I swear Restasis will be the LIFE of me! It's our biggest client and now it's a part of my life!

I took my baby cat, Button, to the vet because she looked like she had an eye infection. One eye was completely closed. I thought she had conjunctivitis or one of the other kitties nicked her.

Imagine my shock when the vet tells me she has chronic dry eye.... AND she'll be on artificial tears the rest of her life!

The poor thing runs from us as it is and we have to do this to her 3X daily? This morning it took us an hour to find her!

Anyone else have a daily medication to give a pet? Do they get accustomed to it after awhile???

I have two hairless Chinese cresteds, a breed that has a tendency to have dry eye. My male has one dry eye and gets 6 drops of medicine a day in his eye (3 different meds twice a day) plus gets awkatears as needed. He's had 2 surgeries (he's 4 now) and his opthamologist has said it's as good as it's going to get. We also rinse with a saline solution before each round of medications to get any goop out to reduce risk of infection.

He doesn't fight it but he's a dog who loves to be held, quite a difference from a cat.

Yup, I've got a kitty that's been peeing blood for about 4 months now, she's been on daily meds since and it's still not gone. In fact I took her to the vet yesterday so they could get a good urine sample for more tests and she's still there because she hasn't gone for them yet, nor does she have anything IN her bladder for them to drain manually........

They get used to it - but I would recommend finding a veterinary opthamologist for a second opinion. We had our regular vet tell us that since one of our cats had the same issue. Turns out that she had a blocked tear duct and they just had to go in and clear it out. So, we had been going through the hassle of drops for a couple weeks and they were a waste. But, some animals are good about medication. I just don't really have very many of them like that! They recently came out with a new antibiotic shot that is for dogs and cats that lasts for two weeks and is an alternative to the pills and liquids. I have never been so happy! Good Luck!

I've been contemplating taking her to my old cat doctor, a specialist who added years to my cat with cancer's life. After reading this I definitely will!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. My kitty is allergic to fish and possibly some other food I can't figure out yet. I have to put drops in her ears all the time as the allergy gives her yeast infections. I have to try to hide the cotton balls & drops so she doesn't see them. Otherwise, she'll hide under the bed for a couple hours.
