My kids are on a mission today

Apparently we are the ONLY family in America that does not own a Wii!!!!

They'er scouring the house, trying to find loose change to save. (I think they just dumped out part of a bottle of apple juice to use as a bank )

My husband told them that we'll match whatever money they can save.

Oh, by the way, we're going to Disney in August and all OUR spare money is going into the Disney fund.

My kids want one too. We thought we were going well to replace their PS2 for Christmas (thiers broke!)

Apparently that wasn't quite enough!

They do have money in their allowance savings, but we haven't gotten one yet.

My DD12 wants one in the worst way, but she already has PS2, Gameboy, Nintendo DS. I told her she could have one if she saves for it. She saved and had enough, then we planned the trip to Disney. I told her to choose -- Disney or Wii. We're going to Disney in August! When there was something else more important than the Wii, she was perfectly willing to walk away and hope she gets one for Christmas this coming year!

We don't own one--nor any playstation type thingie (real technical I know). Here is the REALLY odd part. The kids are 9 and 11 and they have played all the various gaming systems at friends' houses and my kids DO NOT WANT ONE I see no reason to try to convinve them otherwise We can put all of that gaming system money right toward Disney instead

my son (11 now) got his first game (ps2) 2 years ago for christmas, he would rather b outside playing hockey or skateboarding, so its not an obsession thing, which I am glad for. Most kids his age are addicted, my nephew was jonesing the whole time he spent here (overnite) for his x-box and it was getting on my last nerve. If that were the case here , it woulda been gone! LOL! A few of his friends have a WII and he will play it when he visits them but hes not begging for one here.
Most of the games we have came used from game-stop. With the exception of guitar hero, he got this Feb for his birthday from us. And I gotta admit the kids love playing it, but still not an obsession!

OP: Have your kids tried to convince you that it's for YOUR own good?! My DD knows I'd like to drop a few pounds and tried to convince me that Wii is an ACTIVE game and would be the best thing for my weight loss!

Actually, the Wii sports boxing game can be a good workout, if you really get into it. I brought our Wii to school the other day for my special needs students to try out - it was great for their social skills, eye/hand co-ordination, and problem solving. One of them even beat me at bowling!

We finally got a Wii this past Christmas! We went to Disney in December so that was supposed to be our Christmas, but my husband and I decided to get the kids a Wii as a surprise for Christmas when we got home. Let me just say...they were so thrilled.

I am usually not a game person, but we play this as a whole family and have loads of fun. We are a homeschool family, and our evenings are usually free of homework so 2 to 3 days a week we have family nights. We do many different things as a family, but now that we have a Wii, family Wii night has become one of our favorites. My family and I love it!

We are a family with 3 kids, DS(almost 5), DD(10), and DH(35).
We have a PS3, Nintendo DS, PSP, and a Wii. The Wii is something that we can all play with. It is so much fun and boy do you get a work out with some of the games. They are also coming out with Wii Fitness!! It is easy to use and so much fun. I think it is great that some of your kids are saving for it. My kids are saving for their next Disney trip because anytime a new electronic comes out, DH is the first on line!LOL

keep in mind that there are two challenges in wii in achieving wii ownership-saving the money and then LOCATING one (which can be a bigger challenge in and of itself ).

ds (just turned 11) wanted one from the first time he heard about them. i flatly refused to buy one because he already has a playstation and a gamecube and those freaking games are expensive to even rent. finaly a little over a year ago we told ds the only way he was going to get one was to pay for it himeself.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE SAVINGS POWER OF A TRUE GAMER!!!!

ds only gets $25 per month as an allowance. normaly that would go for yugiho cards, gum or extra game rentals at the video store. once he set his goal for a wii he became the thriftiest person known to man. in the course of one year he has managed to save every month's allowance (save that he chose to spend on family christmas gifts), every gift of money from birthdays and christmas (he averages at least $50 for each from assorted relatives), every 'tooth fairy' dollar...just this week he achieved his goal when he was about $100 shy i started researching area stores and the internet to see what was available and found that the ones that hit our store shelves are gone same day (and often have lines out the door hours earlier), and the ones available on-line are often back ordered for months (unless you want to pay a massive price to a private seller with no guarantee ). i was VERY lucky to find a wii locater site that updates daily with availability thru on-line sites and was able to order one thru walmart (2 hours later they had sold out. so ds when he starts easter vacation in a week and a half will be thrilled to come home and learn his wii has arrived (it's already here, dh tested it to make sure it works, but i want ds to understand that it did'nt just 'poof' arrive just because he saved the money).

let your kids know that saving for it is only the first step.

My DS17 has a PS2, PSP, and Gameboy DS (ithink that's what it's called, not the one w/ the touch screen). When they dropped the price of the XBox 360 he was determined to get one, and my problem is that he can afford one. I had to convince him that it was a waste of money since he already had all of the Play Station games.

DF managed to snag a Wii for us at Christmas... and let me tell you, we have so much stinking fun with it.

I am addicted to Wii tennis! Sometimes we have Wii golf tournaments. I am a crappy wii bowler! And I am an anti-video game person!!

Every day when I come home from work I play a few games of Wii tennis before I start dinner. It really is a lot of fun and relieves the stress of the day!

My sister and I are headed to Toys R Us very early tomorrow morning to get one for her kids. They have 50 coming in. Tickets are being handed out at 9 tomorrow morning so we are going to get there very, VERY early.

My in laws got one for us for Christmas and we LOVE it!
