so today i called and got a ressie at Jiko at 6:30. yay! i picked Jiko because it seems to be a board favorite, not to mention that i want to see what AKL is like ( for future visits to the world :yay: ) also, i saw a dining review which included Jiko. those pictures sold me! i looked at the menu on allearsnet.com and it seems to be something that both myself and my picky DBF would eat. in fear that i may not be able to get all the ressie's i wanted due to free dining, i came up with back up ressies at the last minute. my back up for Jiko was flying fish. I checked out their menu and it seemed pretty good. I ended up getting Jiko.. but i think i might like Flying Fish better. I don't know. I can't decide! help me!!!

Well I don't feel that this solves your dilemma, but at Christmas this year, my family has picked both places to eat at. This I feel is mainly because we've all never eaten at either one before. I agree that both menus look very delicious and interesting!

I don't think you could go wrong with either choice, but I would pick Jiko over FF...also, you have probably already visited the BW area, but you haven't seen AKL yet, and it is very beautiful! Have a drink at Victoria falls before dinner!

We prefer FF over Jiko but only for 2 reasons.

1. Better wine list. Jiko only serves South African wines

2. Appetizer selections

They are both really good restaurants. If you have never been to AKL then I would stick with Jiko.

The South African wine list is one of the great attractions of Jiko. It gives one an opportunity to try wines that are literally available no where else in the United States. The Flying Fish winelist, meanwhile, is very nice, but somewhat ordinary in that the vast majority of the wines are fairly common and can be found at numerous other places both in and outside of WDW.

As to the broader question, Jike and FF are both great restaurants. Jiko is a more unique dining experience, however, and I prefer it to FF.

Tough choice...we like both...its more of a fish or steak thing when we decided....I love the potato wrapped fish at FF....and we love the filet and Mac n Cheese from Jiko so much we served it at our wedding...

But if you haven’t been to AK lodge i recommend checking it out...very pretty...

I have been to Jiko twice and have been unimpressed. The second outing was worse than the first. We intend on dining there again, but I would not go out of my way to do so. I believe FF to be one of the most consistent restaurants on disney property. I would suggest that over Jiko and would implore you to sit at the "bar" overlooking the kitchen. I believe the services and servers tend to treat you better there as does the whole kitchen staff. Just my two cents

We have eaten at both many times. We love them both, you can't go wrong with either.

Mulan, I don't know if you saw my review or not, but I have pics of food at both Jiko & FF. Here's the link:

I don't know if I can be much help, though. We loved them both!!!

I would say the atmosphere at Jiko is really nice & we had superior service there, I think our waiter's name was Sean. The taste of Africa, was yummy, the Filet with Mac & Cheese was flat out the Best Steak EVER! The french press coffee was also very good and the wine list is also wonderful.

At Flying Fish, the Crab Cakes, the Calamari, and the Potato Wrapped Snapper were all excellent.

As you can see, IMO, they are both very good choices!

either would be a fabulous choice. but since you have not been to AKL, go w/jiko. enjoy!!

We would put them on a par - both among Disney's best restaurants.
