For all you Americans, I thought you would appreciate what happened to my daughter at school... (We're from Ontario, Canada BTW)!

My daughter is crazy about the United States of America! She has a giant US flag hanging in her room, and she wishes she could somehow become an American. She loves to travel in the US - she cries tears of happiness when she crosses the border and cries when she has to leave. We can't quite figure out where her passion comes from, although we have always been 'pro-American' in my family.

Well, today in her sociology class, the class started bashing the States - it's policies, racism and attitudes. Well, let's just say that when she decided to speak up, everyone listened! lol

She told them that you can't take a small minority of people and say that all Americans are racist; she stated that in her experience, Americans are far nicer than most Canadians; that she has family that's American, and how dare they be so negative! It ended with her in tears and the teacher not quite knowing what to say or do!

She's quite well known around school for her stand - she wears American flag bandanas on the US holidays and especially on September 11 - she certainly would make a very patriotic American!

Just thought you would appreciate hearing her story - not all Canadians are unsupportive...

:)

Hmmm.....Good for her! There are quit a few Americans that could use a few minutes listening to your DD!

And to all the un- American Americans....I say if it is so terrible here, they need to put themselves in these other countries that they think are so much better.
:teeth:

That is so sweet...I am just over the border (Tonanwanda, NY) and when I was a teenager I was crazy about Canada....had crushes on lots of those good looking hockey players! We went over to Canada as much as we could. I had a small flag sewed onto my denim jacket. I still love going to Toronto. She sounds so much like me in my younger days.

Tell her thanks, we appreciate it!

Wow, that is so nice to read, Bonnie. I think my eyes have a little moisture there that they did not when I started reading your words. Very nice. {{Sighs}} :)

Well honey what are you waiting on! Move on over from across that border! You'll be that much closer to WDW!

::yes:: :wave:

:) Nice to hear. It's good to hear that not only is she level headed and able to see that a small group of crazies are not representative of the whole US, but that she is willing to speak her mind and stand up for what she thinks.

I applaud her and appreciate her kind words. I hope she knows too that not all Americans are anti - Canada. You have a beautiful country and all of the Canadians I have ever met have been very nice people. :)

I will make sure she takes the time to read your posts! I've suggested to her that she look into applying at WDW after graduation, but she's not ready to leave home yet, and is worried that working at WDW will 'ruin' the magic for her! She probably has a point!

Sounds like a sweet girl who knows her mind. That's great to read. I'm proud of our country and I'm proud that we have such great neighbors to the north as well.

Perhaps we should all sing, "It's a Small World"???? LOL

Oh my gosh, I was crazy about those hockey players from Canada. When I was in high school, all the Canadien teams came here to play in our Christmas tournament. I was there everyday at 7am just to watch those boys!!! CUTE!!! :earseek:

Bonnie40 - My son feels that way about Canada (not to that extreme - YET) He loves & respects Canada and talks about all the wonderful things about Canada.

Too cool!

Just another pro-American teenager checking in. My room is covered in United States flags etc. and I am known as the America lover in my classes. I often wear American based pins to work (The American flag, Mickey saluting the flag etc) and I am often asked whether or not I am proud to be Canadian. I simply tell them that it is not that I am not proud but I am a strong supporter of the United States. So you may see another Canadian on his way south in the years to come. :)

thank you for your support Daniel & Bonnie's Daughter!

As an offshoot to this thread, did anyone read that the U.S. Olympic atheletes are not supposed to celebrate (by waving their flag or wearing red, white and blue) when they win because of anti-U.S. sentiment? That's so sad to me. They've worked their entire lives to get to the Olympics and they can't celebrate with their country?

Maybe the Daniels and Bonnie's Daughters of the world give us a little hope that not EVERYONE hates us!

Ok, everybody....USA! USA! USA!

It is nice to know that there are others that do not look down on this country.

This American salutes you.

Thanks Daniel!

So far my teenage daughters have not picked up their Mom's obsession with those hockey players!

As a teenage male, I can safely say that I feel similarly about Canada. The difference is, of course, that when Americans "bash" Canada, they're typically moronic and have no clue what they're talking about, so it's a far easier position to argue on my part. ;)

Kudos to your daughter for taking a stand in something she believes. You have raised her well!!
