We have always visited them in Phoenix, and they call today to tell us they are making a spontaneous trip to visit us in Texas next weekend. Oh My Gosh! They are really sweet people, and even though I have been part of their family for many years, I want my home to make a good impression. Not that I live in a pig-stye or anthing, but would like the house to be EXTRA CLEAN!
I sat down and made a list of things to do, and my husband just looks at me and tells me I am exaggerating. My MIL is also diabetic, so I know she has to be very careful with her diet.
I will never again complain that there is no excitement in my life.

I think its just normal to react that way...lol try to calm down. Lists are great though. They will make you feel better. But I am sure you are fine even in you dont do a thing special. DH's never understand these things.

Relax and enjoy your visit with your in-laws. I hope you have a great time with them.

RUN!!!

just kidding. Relax and enjoy their visit. I always worry about my house and things when people visit but then realize they rarely even notice the little things. have a great visit with them.

Relax! Make sure that your bathrooms are clean and that anything your MIL might look at closely is dusted. (I worry about these things too, with my MIL it's pictures). It'll be fun.

Save yourself some hassle and call Merry Maids. It's an expense, but worth it.

I know just how you feel. My mom is coming down in Nov. and staying til Jan. Haven't seen her in 2 years. We all CAN'T wait. I got her her plane tickets the other day. Yesterday, I ran out and bought a new comforter set for the guest bedroom, I'll get new bathroom towels and we need a new kitchen set anyway, so instead of waiting for after the holidays, I'll start looking for one now. I'm a pretty decent housekeeper, but, I'll make it super spotless for when she comes, and then it'll be easier to keep up with it while she's in. We're already thinking about our Thanksgiving/X-mas dinner menus and when to put up the tree. I know we sound super crazy, but, after not seeing her for such a long time, the wait is killing us. She lived with us for 4 months after my father passed away and then went back home to live. My dh's job, plus doing work in the house kept us from a vacation to go visit her these past years, so now just thinking about her coming gets us all excited. So, IMHO, I don't think your crazy, or over exaggerating, I just think the excitements getting the best of us. Have a great visit with your family, and remember, its never to soon to start planning & cleaning.:)

I'd be doing the same thing. Don't make yourself so tired that
you can't enjoy their visit. I've done that! LOL!

Thanks for all the support guys! I went shopping today and bought new bathroom curtains, new livingroom curtains, new comforter set, and odds and ends. I was waiting for the weather to get a little cooler to put out my fall decorations, mums, and pumpkins, but I think I will try to get that done tomorrow evening.
House is in pretty good shape, but it's the small things like cleaning out the closets, pantry, kitchen cabinets, and making sure our clothes are folded properly in our dresser drawers.
My husband finally got a little rattled when he remembered a collectors knife set his dad gave him. He was supposed to build a shelf in his workroom to display them, and guess what?
He hasn't gotten around to it yet! I think I might have seen a
little bit of that stress he told me I shouldn't be having. ;)
It's alot funnier when the shoe is on the other foot.
Again, thanks for the encouragement. Ya'll always know how to make me feel better! :sunny:

May the Lord bless you and keep you
May the Lord shine his countenance upon you and give you peace.;)

Totally off topic but I just wanted to say to missypie that I love this blessing. It's always seemed like such a great thing to bless someone with.

To the OP, I know how you feel on wanting everything to be perfect for your in-laws visit. I used to feel the same way when I didn't live close to my parents and in-laws. I really tried to get everything just right before they came, not that they would have cared, they were just glad to see us.
