My imagination of what June was like and what it was really like..

Your "angry octopus" is why cotton sundresses with the built-in bras are amazing. Of course, I'm not well endowed, so it really doesn't matter. Not having a sweaty bra and some ventilation works for me!
How is the sundress for rides? And what about your legs rubbing together with sweat?

We go on vacation BECAUSE it's hot. We seek the heat. We are from NE Ohio. Vacation is synonymous with hot. We have done WDW many times in summer; June, July and August. We have done November, January, February, too. I much, much prefer the summer months. I LOVE the heat (and humidity). I hate the winter months where night time can drop into the frigid 50s. Watching the evening parade or fireworks while in a jacket and shivering is not vacation. I have also been to Orlando in summer for conventions (in suit and tie). Handling WDW in shorts and T-shirt is much easier. We know what we are in for. We prepare for it. Then we go and just soak up the heat that we don't get at home.
Wow...perhaps you are a rare breed. I'd much rather do cool....60's perfect for me. But July 22nd here we come! I'm ready to fry like an egg!

Today is the last day of our weeklong stay at WDW. Yep, it's been over 90 everyday and the humidity is as thick as described. But one thing it is not is intolerable for us.

We choose not to take our kids out of school for trips, so if we want to go for a full week our choices are the week between Christmas & New Year, Presidents Day week, Easter week, or July/August. We choose the very end of August because it's the lowest crowd time out of our options and the prices are lower too. The weather is hot & humid/rainy but we make do. I'd rather have shorter lines & less crowds than cooler weather. Before our kids were in school we had some pretty hot trips in April, May, & Sept too. Florida is hot & humid most of the year, it's kind of hard to avoid it.
This is us too. We have taken the kids out when they were younger, but they are 13 and 20 now. Their school schedules don't match up at all for less crowded breaks, and I'm not paying peak prices. So August it is for a family trip. And you know what? I'm just greatful that with one kid in university, and one who is very studious and doesn't ever want to miss a day, that we can find any time to go at all. It feels like I blinked and my kids were grown up. I'll take any chance to go together as a family that I can get.

Thank you...love the positive attitude. I just want to be prepared, as I'm not a heat fan. My daughter doesn't think I can do it...she laughs at me for going in July.

I bought the Walmart Fan. It looked like a flimsy piece of crap...but once I turned it on, super impressed! It spins really fast and has a good amount of air. My daughter said not to buy the misting one, she said it makes it worse. She said the regular one works better for humidity. I'm bringing extra batteries, don't know how long they will last. I'm hoping they go all day, not really sure on this one.

I agree the fan seems to be cheap, but yes, to great air power! We were surprised that the air power against my face was stronger on the small cheap one than the $20 disney giant mister one. As to how long it lasts, I am using the same fan I have had for over 2 years. I took it in April AND June on the same batteries!

I, too, have started wearing sundresses and thin fiber pull on skirts (the sporty kind). I like the all cotton stretch beachy dress, sleeveless and pull over. I put corn starch baby powder on my thighs and have not had any issues. I used to wear capri pants or shorts and I love the way the skirts and dresses feel more airy.

Us Floridians know to avoid Disney during the summer. We only go from Jan- April and back in November. The only way we would go in the summer is if we had family in town who wants to go. Typically we go to the beaches in the summer.

Yes! I would love a 6 month Fl Resident pass from October to April.

I feel like our June was actually a little cooler this year with all the rain too.

Yes, well I do think it will be awful and horrible and brutal! Heat and especially humidity and I do not do well together! And, I'm expecting the worst! I mean, the first person we asked what it was like there in August was a Poly bartender and he said "It's BRUTAL"! And have read many guest experiences here on the Dis, more words describing August such as horrible, awful, too much, the worst, horrid, and more. Didn't make me wanna go, lol. But, tho we like to go Nov/Dec, DD26 is now working in a school so we can't do a week trip then. UGH! We are gonna do a short weekend trip to do some Christmas in Nov though, so happy for that at least!

But it does make me worry about our trip. I'm really excited for our trip but also dreading it at the same time, and with big crowds making it even worse. And I'm not one who wears shorts or tank tops, either and won't start. No one wants to see this in those, lol. Gotta figure out something tho, lol.

But, I know what you are both talking about when you make a situation out to be really awful, sometimes it turns out to be not as bad as expected, so interesting you say that. We went for the last 24 hour day and I was dreading the late May heat. I got one of those small fans you mention, and paired it with a Frogg toggs. Was skeptical about those, but they worked pretty good for me then. But, combining the two, I really felt they helped make it, as you noted, 'not as bad as expected'! So, that was good, though May is probably not nearly as bad as August so that may not be saying much. Maybe I'll keep just saying how awful it will be and it just won't be able to compare to how much I 'grow' it to be, lol. I keep hoping for an unusual cooler than 90 spell with like record breaking lower humidity! I know, near impossible.

Depending on when you go in August, you might get a nice surprise in regards to the crowd sizes. We have gone a couple of times in the last two weeks or so of August and I was really surprised that the crowds weren't larger. Came to find out that the local schools had just started, so that reduced the volume of people in the park.

I wasn't prepared for the heat and humidity during that time though. Those were trips where we really adhered to the "go early, leave and rest/cool off mid-day, then go back at night" plan. I used one of those cooling towels around my neck for those trips and it seemed to help. If we are ever crazy enough to go during that time again, I will definitely take one of the other poster's advice and buy one of those small portable fans. I think that would've been a life-saver for me.

In regards to clothes, just make sure you are wearing something that is really light-weight and moisture wicking. Check out some of the athletic tops at Target or someplace like that (you could check out athletic tops at a lot of places, but they are probably less expensive at Target). They usually have some that are like t-shirts and offer more coverage. :) Don't forget to consider your shorts/bottoms too. I only had cotton or denim shorts with and the denim shorts got hot real quick. I think that was both because of the color and the fabric type. Light weight fabric and light colors are the way to go!

Have a great trip!

Wow, now there is a great idea for Florida residents. Offer a 7 month pass from October-April. I pay a lot for our annual passes which only get used in those months.

Shocked!

Speak for yourself. I've always gone in August when I was a kid living in Mass and now living in Florida the past 14 years. The heat is what it is. Being from Florida its like any other day.

I think it's interesting to have so many different perspectives on this topic. Some people are lucky enough to be able to handle heat and humidity easily. Others (like me) don't handle it as well. I sure wish I did!

Some of this depends on the climate you're used to. I live in the Seattle area, with average summer temps in the upper 70s and low humidity. No way to try to acclimate ahead of time for a Disney trip, as some have suggested. I sure do appreciate some of the other tips and strategies suggested here, though! Especially the one about wearing moisture wicking clothing. I recently discovered moisture wicking underwear by Hanes. Great for working out at the gym, and will be great for WDW!

I think it's helpful for each individual family to figure out how they handle the Florida weather, and go from there. Every family is different.

Water park. Let me say it again: water park. I grew up in Miami. Won't find me in anything but a water park on a summer day. When the sun goes down, it's park time!

Or park closing depending on the current Disney schedule. :)

I went mid June this year for the first time. I found that leaving the parks from 1-5 was helpful. The evenings were much cooler, although rainy.

I just found those same underwear...LOL...my final item before the trip. Hope they work!

I've never had that issue...I'm pretty thin, but it's not exactly glamorous...see the part about being fine with a built in bra! My mom is size 10-12 and she's never had issues. Nor another friend who is a pinup perfect 14-16 (she's got all the right curves!). They never did anything but they do wear longer under garments under their dresses.

Fwiw, I just found something at Walmart, that provides full coverage in flexees I think it was called and I swear to god, they were like 8-9$.

ETA: a sundress, a wide brim hat, and plenty of sunscreen is by far the coolest thing I've found to wear at wdw, or anywhere with sandals.
