I just want to be prepared in the event he can't walk the entire day. How do we get him a wheelchair if necessary?

It is pretty bad - he can barely put any weight on it and can't even put a shoe on right now.

Post 2 of that thread has information about wheelchairs and ECVs, including links to where to get them.

Just wanted to say good luck and tell your hubby to take it easy! My DH rolled his ankle a couple days before a trip (dr swore it was broken and would probably need surgery before xray even came back) and ended up with a really bad strain/tear but no break thank goodness. He was in a boot and adamant that he could walk but I rented an ECV from Apple Scooters and even though he hated using it, no way he could have walked that trip. Tell your DH not to be ashamed or embarrassed to use it...it is worth the comfort of not having to miss a bunch of or be miserable on your trip. My DH just hated having to try to navigate the crowds with it but if you go that route, have him drive it around the resort and try to learn to maneuver on it if you can and just be patient. He would park it and walk the short distance to the line entrances to avoid having to go through the wheelchair line or line with it.
Have a great trip!

I recently broke my toe on a ski trip. It is painful but have him tape his broken toe to the next one.

Truly it felt so much better and healed in about a week after I taped it. DH said to tape it and I didn't at first and was in the most pain.

I hope you have a great trip.

Going through this right now (the broken toe part). My break runs through the joint so surgery may be needed and about 8-10 weeks of healing as per the doctor. Very painful. So sorry this happened to you guys. Anyway, last year, DH had a problem with his ankle and could not walk. We were able to get a regular wheelchair from the resort. They usually have loaners on hand which is very nice. Call bell services; that's usually where they store them. Or, you can rent an electric scooter; a bit pricey but then DH could get around on his own. Good Luck! and don't hesitate doing this. It will save your trip!

Which toe? I did Universal with a broken little toe with no problems. Wore my hiking shoes that were not tight in the toe. Iced it at night and took Motrin.

My mom broke her foot right before a disney trip. She had a walking boot and was generally okay for the trip. We didn't ask for a GAC or anything but the CMs could usually tell when she needed to sit down by the ride while I waited in line and let us both in or something like that.

The complimentary onsite resort chairs are usually reserved for issues that occur while you are at the resort. No one should show up at a resort expecting to get a free wheelchair, as they are first come/first served, and not always in the best of shape, or the right size, either.

If I was going to WDW and knew I had a mobility issue, I'd make sure I had what I needed before I got there.

My dad has leg issues and was in severe pain the first night of a trip over at US, we were staying a PBH and he could not even make it down to the waterfront. I went to the desk and rented him a scooter and that was the best money spent. After that first night he even stayed with us all week and ended up going into US since he is a big Harry Potter fan and the look on his face when we took him to WWOHP was priceless.

Heck he even decided to come with us to Disney for the 2nd week, we stayed WBC that time, and I had a scooter waiting at the resort and he just scooted around everywhere. He did not go into the parks so I can't tell how that went but over at US he would just park and walk then but since we had the EP it was never a long wait.

I'm not trying to score any GAC benefits or anything. He is really hurting - he had to call off work today even because he can't get a shoe on. It's his little toe and we are currently taping, icing and medicating. UGH. He did say flip flops/sandals are comfortable to wear but he can not get his work boots on.

Yikes, I can't imagine work boots. Based on my own experience with a broken little toe, looser shoes should not pose a problem when walking around a theme park. I wore hiking shoe Sketchers.

We rented a wheelchair from Apple and it was the smartest thing we did. My mom has cancer so cannot walk like she used to, but could transfer to most rides. We didn't get use GAC and didn't need to, it was really helpful. They delivered to and picked up from the resort and it was around $75 for 8 nights. We used Disney transportation the entire trip and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Just something to think about. It is a lower cost option that you could use when/if needed. Hopefully, it will not!

I know. I'll be surprised if he works tomorrow. The good news is that he works a schedule that is similar to a fireman/police officer (12 hour shifts) and is off Friday/Saturday/Sunday this week. He then works Monday and we leave Tuesday.

A podiatrist can fit him with a walking "shoe/boot" which gives more support and protection than flip flops and sandals. It's covered by insurance.

He's currently being all tough guy and won't go to a doctor. Eye roll.

When my husband severely sprained his ankle 3 days before we were moving, he was given a walking boot and it significantly changed his mobility. Not sure if that helps with a broken toe, but it might be an option!

I've broke a little toe twice. In a week it will probably be much better. It would help him if he tapes it- I think you said you were doing that. That is all the doctor usually does for a little toe anyway- tapes it to the other toes/foot to keep it stable and healing. That should really help with the pain. It will also help it heal too, as it keeps it from moving around as much. Mine was just taped with 2 fairly thin/narrow strips to my foot. It really helped with the pain and walking. The first couple of days is the worst- I couldn't wear shoes either.

If he finds he has trouble at WDW, you can rent an ECV from a service and they will bring it to your resort. My MIL has an old shattered ankle and after 1 day at WDW, her leg swelled up to the size of a watermelon. I've never seen anything like it. They called Walker Mobility, and they had an ECV delivered to the room within a couple of hours. At the end of our trip, they came back and got it.
