Our walls were hollow, as I understand it, and they just went up in the attic and blew insulation down the sides. . .
We built the attic, it was open space for the attic and upstairs when we bought it. We couldn't do blown insulation because the floors are 14 inch wide hand planed chestnut that ran all the way to the outer wall. When we sheet rocked the upstairs we added traditional insulation in the walls before finishing out the build. The current attic space is tongue and groove planking with insulation laying on top.
Restoring this house was the biggest pain ever! But I can now roof and hang sheetrock with the best of them! LOL
