My horrible ongoing saga (long)

Tell them that if your $1100 is not released, you will be filing a civil notice against them in your local small claims court. They will either a.) have to defend themselves in court. b.) Not show up & default or c.) Give you the $$.

Contact your state attorney office with the facts.

Have you tried this??

Call Paypal.

Very nicely ask them for the name of their "registered agent" in the state you live in. That's basically whoever they use to represent them on legal matters in your state.

This didn't work for me when they messed up my account! Not only that, they don't really want to talk to you! And, if you do get through, or if you are taking care of it via email, you start with one person, but never talk or write to that first person again. I had the same type of issue happen to me (and worse). . .and, each time I'd get passed to a new person who would not understand what my case was really about. (I was out almost $2000!) Finally, after almost a year, I did get most of that money back. . .but it was very difficult to do, and got very ugly and unpleasant. This was over a year ago.

I just took a design job the other day, though, and I was thinking of taking payment through paypal again, since enough time had elapsed to lull me into feeling comfortable with them again. After reading these posts, thouh, I'm rethinking this. Maybe I'll just ask him to mail a check.

I don't use paypal very often so have been lucky enough to have clean transactions. I am sure that there are problems with the company but having followed the link to the site that is fighting paypal, they shoot themselves in the foot almost imediately. When some talks about the fact that paypal shouldn't charge for just moving a record in a database (non-credit card) because it doesnt' cost paypal anything, i think the writer is showing a complete ignorance of business.

I had a very similar situation. Took me months to get it straightened out.

FYI Paypal is now owned by eBay.

Yes, you can ebay without using paypal. Just tell your buyers in your auction that you accept cashier's checks or money orders only.
