We originally had a reservation for SSR from August 25-September 1 using the 40% code in a two bedroom. Total price ($5,000 for room, dining and 6 day base pass). We are a family of 5 also taking my DM.
So after free dining came out and talking to my DM we (my DM and I) decided she would not go because I could get POR for $1,100 from 8/26-8/31 with a 1 day base pass. Ok I was upset we made that decision but it was such a significant savings that we could not pass it up. My DM cannot afford to pay much for vacation she would just pay her dining and park passess.
So on Mother's Day, my DIL ask what we are doing for vacation, I told them Disney. The said they wanted to come on either the front end or the back end of the weekends. So SW lowered fares and we booked from 8/23-8/31 on SW. (Thursday to Friday) I do not know why I booked for those three nights extra, just thought it would give us more time and not be rushed with only 5 days. Great. We figured we could get a room at POR for $450 for the first three nights not park tickets we will go to SW and swimming in the pool.
Now DH and I decided that POR will be too small for us, we are not small people and have a 13 yo who is 6'2" and weighs 185. How can we fit in two double beds, with trundle. So we try to book CR but the cost is $1200 more and we still have the three nights before the package starts.
So I am back to SSR for $3300 for 5 nights in a 2 bedroom with free dining and 1 day base ticket. Then I thing well DIL should just stay with us on Sunday night with us but they will leave on Monday. So how do I work it with free dining. DIL will only use 1 CS and maybe 2 TS before they leave on Monday. They can use thier 1 day base ticket at AK which we are going to on Sunday, BOMA for dinner on Sun and TS for breakfast.
Next I think I will look at Poly but I am figuring the cost is the same as CR. So my head hurts and I feel bad that my DM is not coming with us. DM has been vacationing with us since my oldest was 2 (11 years ago). But the cost difference is a great savings. We are not hurting but with three boys all growing money gets tight.
