Hi Ladies!! I am so excited to finally get to participate here!! I've been reading along for years - and when I saw years I mean years!!! I've always loved weddings and at one point in my life studied to become a wedding coordinator. And of course, my love of Disney knows no bounds so it's been great fun to get to read along with all your adventures and learn so much.

And now I get to join!!

I was married once before and have a beautiful, amazing daughter from that marriage. She was born very prematurely (25 weeks) and also had some birth defects. She spent the first year of her life in the hospital. :sad1: However, she's come through like a champ and basically we get along pretty well these days! It did put a lot of stress on my marriage and sadly we had to go our separate ways. But my daughter is 7 years old now, I can't believe how big she is getting!

Over this time, I had a very good friend whom I met online. He was great strength and support for me when I was weak or feeling sorry for myself. He's a college Professor from California. Two years ago he, on a whim, applied for a job here in NY, yes across the country. I think he did it because I am in the area - not as a joke - but really he was getting desperate and after 150 applications, he would take anything.

Well guess what? He got the job here at a fairly prestigious university! I offered him a place to stay so he could figure out if he liked living in NY. Well, he never left ;)

Slowly over time we realized that we are perfect together. I feel like a giddy schoolgirl around him and he says I make him a better person. :lovestruc He's amazing and I feel so lucky! He's great with my daughter and my family loves him - also very important to me.

So anyway, his school was sending him to Paris, yes France, for a conference in August. We arranged it that I would meet him there after a week and we would tour Paris together. And of course, no trip to Paris would be complete without a stop in Disneyland Paris! My guy knows how huge of a Disney fanatic I am - and lucky him he grew up 20 minutes outside of Disneyland!! He's a fan too. So when we realized that Disneyland Paris was only 19 miles outside of the city of Paris, and we looked over our schedule, we traded out an off day to go visit.

I am SO glad we did! It was a gorgeous day with perfect weather. It was a bit crowded but so was the whole of Paris. Apparently August is vacation time in Paris.

Anyhoo, the park there is simply beautiful. I've been to WDW many, many times and DL once but DLP is by far (in general) the most beautiful of the parks I have been to. They learned a lot of lessons from the other parks. The castle is magnificent and you can go inside and tour around, there is a Sleepy Beauty walk though and all the stores are set up like parts of the castle. So you walk into the "kitchen" and they sell candy. You walk into the wizards lab area and it's full of beautiful crystal. Down in the dungeon is a huge animatronic dragon that comes to life. So cool!

Their Mission to Space: 2 is far superior to ours. Actually, the whole Discoveryland is better than our Tomorrowland. Personally, I feel like our Tomorrowland is a little bit old and dated, certainly doesn't look like the future anymore! Their Discoveryland is all Jules Vern-y and is just amazing to take in.

Not everything is better there though. The French don't seem to give a poo about rules. They smoke, everywhere. They cut lines, everywhere. They go in areas marked "no passage." They just don't care and the CM's there don't care enough to stop them. All that is very un-Disneylike in my opinion. We also saw someone painting on Main Street - you would NEVER see that at WDW or DL.

Sorry got a little off track! lol

Anyway, it was just after lunch and starting to get pretty crowded. So we decided, instead of waiting on long lines for rides, to check out some of the "flavor" of the park. We went through Alice's Curious Labyrinth, a fun little walk through. We were both being all goofy and just having a great time. At the end we posed in the Queen of Hearts chair (me) and the Mad Hatter (him). It was just a fun, loving moment. We're just two big goofy kids together.

While I was happy to let that continue, J takes my hand and says "Let's go see the castle." Okay, that was fine, on our plans anyway. We dodged through the afternoon parade and made our way to the front of the castle. We took lots of beautiful pics close up and J kept asking me to take different pics, of me and of him. I was like, "We have 5,000 pictures, we don't need anymore!!!" I didn't guess what was up.

I wandered over to the wishing well, which both WDW and DL have in approximately the same area. He handed me a coin and told me to make a wish. (Later when telling the story I and I mention throwing a coin in, he was like, "Hey that was 2 freaking euros!! Which is like $3 our money!!" It's funny :rotfl:).

I closed my eyes and the coin plopped in.

Now, my wishes have generally been the same for a while now and usually either involve my daughter Bella or J.

J says, "My turn!" and I open my eyes and he's on his knee in front of like 5,000 people with a totally gorgeous ring in a box!!!

He says, "My wish is only you. Will you marry me?" I pretty much stood there, shocked.

Then I felt my cheeks burn and I said, "You're doing this to me here and now?!?!?!" He was like, "Yup!" and just laughed. I was totally shocked.

People were oohhing and ahhing around around us but I just looked at him and they kind of all disappeared. I said, "Of course!!" and he put the ring on my finger and had the goofiest grin on my face, well, to this day, lol. We stood there for a long time kissing and taking a few more pictures, I was just in so much shock. It's really hard to surprise me!

Of course, I spent the rest of the trip with my feet in the clouds!

There is another funny story too. J asked my Dad for permission to marry me before we left! My Dad said he was dying the whole week J was away because he knew and I didn't and he had to keep the secret.

Back when my Dad was a kid, they were really poor. At one point, My Aunt was dating my soon to be Uncle. Since my Dad's family was poor, my future Uncle used to bring them donuts and candy and soda, since they were too poor for that. Of course all the kids loved him! So when it came time to ask my grandfather for her hand in marriage, he brought over a cute little chick. My grandfather said, in his Italian accent, "Fin-ally youa bringa a good gift!" And of course they got married.

(There is another part to this story which involves my Aunts and Uncles being devastated when that chick, which was their only pet, grew up and my grandfather made a beautiful chicken dinner that the kids refused to eat. "Youa damned American kids-a!" was the famous quote.) :scared1: :rotfl2:

So J, when he went to ask my Dad, gave him a stuffed chick and said, "I heard this is what you're supposed to do when you want to marry a (our family name) girl." Too funny. My dad really loved and respected that J did that. It's no secret around here that my Dad is totally in love with J, lol.

After we got engaged (hehe still gets goosebumps when I say that) J told me that he also wanted to "propose" to my daughter Bella. We talked about it for a bit then went into that crystal store where we bought her a heart necklace with a Swarvoski crystal Mickey inside. I usually wear heart necklaces (mine with diamonds) and she says stuff like, "Mommy, when you die can I have your beautiful sparkly necklace?" ROFL. So yeah, instead of her waiting around til I DIE, we got her her own.

When we got home, J sat her down and we explained to her what a "traditional" proposal was (man on knee, etc) and what it meant. Then J got down on one knee, with the necklace in the box, and said, "Bell, I really love your Mom, and you, and I am asking you if you would be my daughter and we can be a family." Of course she said yes, and I started crying and then she was crying, lol. We're such dorks. Her necklace is really cute on her too.

So yeah, that's my whole story! The only bad part is that we didn't have anyone to take pictures of us together right after it happened. They don't have Photopass photographers over there (Boo). So we don't have a pic of us together right after. I was thinking maybe we'll get some engagement pictures done so we have some. And actually, we're taking a trip next month to see J's parents in CA and we will be visiting Disneyland so I thought maybe we would "recreate" the big moment. I know it wouldn't be "real" but we'd get a laugh out of it.

So, if you read ALL that, I thank you! I can't believe I'm engaged! And, of course, we're going to try to do our best to have a wedding at Disney World! Not sure if I can afford it, J has two kids in CA and I have my daughter so a Disney trip for 5 AND a wedding on top of it is a lot but he knows this is what I really, really want so we're going to try. I'd like to do a non traditional ceremony where we really include the kids. So much to think about!

I guess this should have been in a planning thread, I apologize for the length! I'm just too excited not to share all the details :dance3:

So here is unsuspecting me right before:

I'm sad we don't have any pics together right after. But we just got a new, expensive, camera and I didn't want to hand it over to a non English speaking person and try to ask for them to take our pic! This one is on our last night in France, I really love it.

Your picture didn't work. :(

But your story totally made me tear up; especially when your DF asked your daughter if they could be a family. OMG. I love it. I hope you start a planning journal!!! <3

Thank you so much! Yes, I have a great guy when he thinks about my daughter too :lovestruc I should probably start a planning journal, I need a lot of help with all my ideas, rofl.

Hmm.. my pics are working for me. Are none of them working? I'll get right on that.

Congratulations and welcome!!!
What an amazing proposal (or two proposals since your DF proposed to your DD too!!)!!! I am so glad you enjoyed DLRP. I agree it is certainly one of the prettiest parks and it is my favourite of all the castles too. When they were building it, they knew that the castle had to be spectacular as it was to compete with all the 'real' castles dotted all over Europe!! I think they certainly pulled it off!! I also agree that the downside of DLRP, is the way it is treated by it's European guests. It is not just the French, but all the rest of the Europeans as well. You have to remember, however, that aside from the British, the Europeans have no concept of queuing (or waiting in line as you guys call it). It isn't part of their culture and they just do not do it in countries like Germany. I guess barging and pushing is a way of life to them!!! No excuse for the smoking thing though. It's disgusting!! I really think the CMs do their best, but it is so hard for them with all the various language barriers etc. I must say, though, that I saw somebody painting a fence at the MK at WDW this past trip, so I guess that is not so unusual a sight in the parks these days!!:sad2:
Hope you can afford a Disney wedding - don't forget to check out the Swan and Dolphin for a more affordable way of having your wedding at WDW!!
I hope you enjoy your planning and can't wait to hear more!!

Sadly I cannot see the pictures either but that's such a sweet story. Congratulations! :wizard:

This is an amzing Disney tale, love it!

Congratulations on the engagement, your DB sounds like a really nice bloke!

Anyway, have to disagree about the pushing in as I've never experienced this in the past!

However, being 6'4, built like a brick outhouse and stubborn as a mule I find that when people try and push past I widen my arms (filling most lines) and REFUSE to move!!!! lol

Also helps when the kids are trying to get pictures with characters!!! I'm quite hard to move!!

lol

What a sweet story! I especially love the part about proposing to your daughter, that made my eyes well up a bit. Have fun planning your own fairytale wedding!

Thanks everyone! I am so happy right now! After everything we (my family) has been through, I wasn't sure I would ever feel that kind of pure happiness again. So I feel so lucky!!

I tried fixing the pictures but I'm having issues. I tried links from two different websites. Normally I don't have this issue. The first set had been hosted on another website, this set is links to the site where they are saved. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to get my pictures to show? Or a good photo website I should use? I have tried dotphoto and shutterfly and now this one is snapfish. I need some place to host these things so I can share them!

Congratulations and welcome!!!

You know, you're probably right, there is so much construction going on everywhere these days I guess they might have to do some in the day. It was just so odd, at first I thought it was some sort of show and the painter was going to fall off the ladder as an act!

I've read and reread your planning journal, I would totally do the Swan / Dolphin! (And thank you for writing up in such detail, it really helps!) I am lucky in that I have options. If Disney (Wedding Pavilion or Canada Pavilion) can't work, I could do Swan or Dolphin or my DF's father is retired military so we could also do Shades of Green. I admit, Shades isn't as exciting to me, the venue itself looks like many places you can find here. But, if it means Disney or no Disney, I am very happy to have choices. We may end up with some combination (say, stay at SoG to save money to have wedding at a different area) of the above.

This is an amzing Disney tale, love it!

I think he's nice, lol. And, like you, he's also 6'4 and has the no way no how attitude!! You two have a lot in common I tell ya! :rotfl: Still, it stinks that you even have to worry about it. It's life I guess. I just get in front of him and he bears all the pushing. It's nice to have guys like you around!

Okay I figured the pic thing out. It seems silly I can't find a website to host (and get a BBC share link) and be able to order pics from. How hard can that be? Anyway, let me know if the pics are working now!

The pics are working and they're gorgeous!! Congrats! I love your ring!!

By the way, I just sent you a private message! :)

Queenie sweetie - Loving the photos!!! I really love 'Alice's Curious Labyrinth'!!!
Thank you for taking the time to read my PJ/TR

Have you tried 'Photobucket' for photo hosting?

What a beautiful story! Your fiance is so sweet and you guys are adorable together. Your ring is gorgeous too! So happy you are here and thank you for sharing with us.

What a beautiful ring!!! How is your daughter doing now? I have a friend who had a 26 weeker and it sure is an uphill battle. It is so amazing that micro preemies can (and do) grow into perfectly healthy children.

Thanks everyone! We're still mulling our wedding options around. It's been super busy here, my Mom is in the hospital and she'll be coming to live with us for a bit after she gets out (believe me, we don't have the room but oh well!).

It's been a very rough road, no doubt. Because she spent that first year in the hospital, she didn't develop like she should, so once she came home and ever since we work with her on catching up to the milestones. She has some weakness in areas, her balance is off, stuff like that. So she still gets OT and PT on a regular basis. However, we were super lucky, she never had any brain bleeds that are so common in these babes born so young. Because of that she is super smart (and I mean really smart!) so she always figures out a way to get things done if she can't do it the "normal" way. She was also receiving speech and feeding therapy but quickly grew out of that. She's in regular ol public school now, though she does have a full time one on one aide to help with the physical stuff. She only had her feeding tube out earlier this year. She's growing like a weed now and while she is smaller than the kids her age she isn't so much smaller that people really notice. They just think she's a peanut.

Here she is at 2 1/2, having her first try of chocolate - at Disney World, of course! At this point she still needed to be fed through her feeding tube but we were trying our best to tempt her with yummy stuff!

This is us together at her 3rd birthday. You can see the little stoma site from her trach. She had surgery after that to close it up.

One of my favorite moments from her Make a Wish Trip (she was just 4 - her wish was to dance with the princesses, which she got to do!). We had gotten on the end of the line to meet Aladdin. Of course they saw her pin, grabbed us and brought us to the front, where Genie and Aladdin proceeded to enchant us all. They spent a little extra time with Bella. Aladdin hopped over the fence and picked a flower, which he then gave to Bella (and we still have!). My little talkative star was awestruck and barely said a word, she mostly just stared up at Aladdin. It was hysterical but I cried the whole time. The trip was amazing and I pretty much cried through the whole thing because that first year - forget those first months - were so scary and we almost lost her three times and I didn't know what the future would hold for her. It's like, you have a baby this way and all your dreams of normal, of everything you wanted to do with them, go out the window. But we were one of the lucky ones and to share DW with her like that was just amazing. She still loves and is awestruck by Aladdin today - he's the only one!

And finally here she is just two weeks ago for the first day of school. My little lady!

DSC_1451.jpg

As you can see, I'm so proud if her! What we went through affected so many people and definitely made me a Mom who appreciates every single moment. I always squeeze her tight and thank God for how lucky I am.

I hope your friend's preemie does well, they say they usually catch up by age 2-3, though that wasn't the situation in our case. How old is the baby now?

So I know I really want the kids (my daughter and fiancee's son and daughter) to really be a part of our ceremony. I want my daughter to walk me down the aisle - well, we'll be walking each other down the aisle- and the same for J and his kids. I don't want my daughter just to be a "flower girl" which is what she wants, I want her to be much more special than that. I don't just want them to do a sand ceremony (which I DO want to do!!) but have them also take some sort of vows that bind us as a family. I'm going to need some help with that DISers!! :goodvibes

Oh sweetie - what a true gift from God your princess is!!! My eldest son, Mark has Down's and autism and has had many obstacles to overcome in his life (including two bouts of heart surgery), but he is the happiest and most adorable guy in the world. These specially gifted children are such a joy, and don't we Mum's revel in their hard-won achievements??
You should be rightly proud of your daughter and I am sure she will absolutely adore being such a big part of your special day!!
Will be following your plans avidly, and much love to your gorgeous daughter!!!
