the USMC!

Talk about feeling old!

He's graduating high school next month and has been looking at all sorts of options. He came to the conclusion he really doesn't know what he wants to do and has always been interested in the military. He took ROTC in high school and likes the discipline, even after spending a few weeks at Fort Dix for boot camp one summer.

He's all signed up and sworn in, but he doesn't report for boot camp until January. Until then, his local recruiter "owns him." This sergeant makes sure he keeps his nose clean and has weekly workouts.

Being a veteran (Navy), I'm very proud and at the same time a little concerned, but he's a good kid and should do well. I guess I can't call him a kid anymore...

Congratulations to him for wanting to become one of "the Few and The Proud"

My deepest thanks to him for becoming one of our servicemen. :)

Congratulations. Sounds like he made a decision based upon giving it thought.

Congratulations and ooh rah! You have every right to be proud!!

My DS has just come home after spending 6 months at Parris Island. Yes, 13 weeks of boot became 6 months after an injury set him back, he is home getting stronger. He is going back in January to start training all over again. Maybe they'll end up on the island in the same platoon (that is if your grandson isn't going to San Diego to be a "Hollywood Marine" ;) ).

The change is incredible! DS is still using Marine speak and I am still saying "What did you just say"!! :p

Again, Congratulations to you both!

Melissa

OOOO RAH!

I wish only the best for your grandson's new adventure in the USMC.

"Squid" and "Jar head" in the same family;) that will make for lots of family fun!!
My dh was a Marine.. he said the best thing he did in preparation for bootcamp was RUN and RUN with a heavy pack. Also get ready for swim qual. Also study the Marine Corps history.. ask recruiter to get the info for your grandson Before he leaves it will make it a little easier to get thru bootcamp if he knows some of the stuff by heart before he gets there.
Our son chose the Army for his Military stint...

Best wishes,
Joan

To add to that RUN, RUN, RUN DS said if he isn't already off of sodas get off now very unhealthy the drill instructors say so start getting used to water if he isn't already! And get busy on those pull ups they seem to give everybody trouble!

Here's a very helpful site for the whole family even though it is called Marine Moms everybody is welcome.
