My Fun Fund and My (Almost ) Free Vacation

I can't find a recycling place listed anywhere in my area that "pays" for plastic. Bummer.

We recycle cans, but really are lucky to make $20-30 a year on that and we have alot of cans. I never heard of getting paid for bottles though. Where do you take them? and how much are they worth?

How do you find a place that pays for cans?

google recycling aluminun in your area. We have alot of places, but they are all scrap metal places, not actual recycling centers for anything BUT metal.

I asked on my local freecycle, but they are more restrictive now here and wouldn't allow such a post. If you are willing to post your location someone either on the budget board or the community board could probably tell you.

That is really cool. I have a jug in my laundry room that I put "lost" money in. Anything under a dollar and it goes in the jar. I counted it today and had around $19 in change :goodvibes I also had a bunch of ones left over from using cash on the way home from St Louis a week ago and they totalled up to $15. So I am up to $34 in the vacay fund LOL Any leftover money from my budgeted weekly allowance I plan to put in the "quick cash stash" that we use for things like field trips we don't know about until a couple of days beforehand, school pictures, gifting money to the kids for things well done or because they need a pick me up. Whatever doesn't get used by next vacation will become mad money (incentive to really analyze those unanticipated spending moments.) I bought a bunch of beach towels on 25% off clearance the other day. The Buzz one is going to Kindergarten with my youngest and my daughter really liked the Pixie Hollow one (had all the fairies not sure if I could find them all on a towel again) so I am keeping those two. The other 3, though, are going back - I looked in my towel stacker and counted beach towels....for quite a while. We have too many :rotfl: I'll get $25 or so back on the towels and that is going into the fund too! I have started back with Mypoints, hadn't done it in YEARS but still got the emails. Clicking emails and surveys got me 250 pts this week! I am going to do my fall clothing for the kids and our christmas shopping through them. That'll rack up some points :wizard: and I plan to put those towards GC's for eating out on vacation. I also signed up for the restaurant.com emails, when I get a code I will buy some el cheapo coupons there as well.

Don't forget mrrebates and ebates. Last year I did most of my Christmas shopping thru these sites and had over $100 in rebate money.

Oh and unclaimed property...plus selling any old cell phones or gold jewelry you have laying around.

This is what I do as well.

I actually have a super duty magnet with a clip on it that I leave on the fridge. ALL extra "found" money goes into it. I put in all rebates (which I CASH when I go to the bank, no more putting it in the household money - it disappears then!), gift money, reimbursement checks from work (I get a monthly cell phone allowance), etc.

I also have been selling some stuff on eBay, and all money I make from eBay goes into a special ING account. I have over $600 in eBay money alone (and I didn't even sell what I would consider "a lot"). Oh wait, I'd say about $18-$21 of that is from Pinecone surveys.

In 8 months, I have over $2300 saved! :goodvibes :goodvibes

Money that hasn't found its rightful owner. Might be tax rebates, utility deposits, rebates, etc. It's required to be turned over to the state treasurer. Since you have Ohio as your location, here's the Ohio site:

http://www.tos.ohio.gov/ForYou/Default.aspx?Section=Unclaimed Funds

Be sure to check all states you and DH and kids have lived in and all names you have used (maiden name, etc)

Thanks. I havbe looked at that site many times. LOL! We must be tight with our money, as no one in my family is ever listed. LOL!

A couple of months ago we had a rebate for DH that had never made it here. The weird thing was, it was for our current address, so I don't know how it turned up in unclaimed property.
