My friends think i'm daft!

I think it's an addiction - when I'm not there, I crave it, and it's true, those who haven't been just don't get it. The thrill of seeing those purple road signs, knowing that you are within the world...aah bliss! Nothing else compares!

People always seem to like to tell you exactly what they think when it comes to holidays, yet other leisure activities never seem to attract the same criticism. I know people who go out on the lash every week (usually more than once) and spend a fortune on drinks, club entries, taxis.. Easily the amount in a year that our annual holiday costs yet no-one says a word to them  I just don't listen to those who feel the need to try and burst my Disney bubble anymore :upsidedow

It is my dream to go to WDW, so I do get everyone's obsession. I have a friend who makes snide comments about my Disney-love. The best one was when she said she would never take her children to Disney as they 'probably wouldn't like it as they are not in to that sort of thing'. They are 9, 6 and 3. Their holiday this year is to a 17th century cottage in the middle of nowhere. Each to their own.:confused3

this is why i lvoe this site, we all understand each others obsessive need to talk all things Disney 24/7 no one else seems to understand and their eyes glaze over as soon as they hear Disney!!!! enjoy your planning xx

I actually have a different viewpoint.

To be honest yes I think you are daft, I know this because I am too, totally and completely bonkers...........still, at least I know that I am not alone as several million absolutely daft people go to Florida every year, and keep going back! ;)

Hi

I have to agree. Love being daft :)

I don't care what other people think, each to their own, my parents like visiting all museums/houses and such and keep saying to me I should go and have a look. I now just say point blank I am not interested in them at all. Some of the rest of my family are the same suggesting other places to go, I don't try and force my holiday opinions on anyone else (except on this forum:)) so don't see why I should be told how to spend my holidays. They are expecting me to turn round once the lads don't want to come with us and abandon Florida but we keep saying we will be going ourselves.

So you are not mad or anything, you are just doing what you like to do and there is nothing wrong with that.:)

I know what you mean-I get the same family friends etc think we're mad:confused3

Also a couple of years ago my boss picked up my holiday 'summary' A4 Exel sheet with planned parks, opening hours, show times, ADRs, colour coded etc. from the printer at work:scared1: He wouldn't give me it back and kept it to show every-one (he let me print another one for me:goodvibes). He produced it in several meetings 'Look this is the detail Sharon goes into for her holiday' type speech-It was so embarrassing, but hey at least they know I'm a detail freak.

It gets better though; family & friends now accept we're total Disney loonies. At work I have steady stream of folk asking for 'Disney' advise which makes a change form the boring legal/process stuff I normally have to deal with;)

Big:grouphug:for all fellow Disney lovers.

This is so true! My eldest sister amongst other friends that ask that about me and Jonathan are like this and say how can you afford to go! Easy I don't spend £50 plus each weekend going out and getting off my face. And at £30 a weekend I have enough for two weeks in Florida.

Nobody asks us where we are going anymore they know what the answer will be. Dont think we will ever give up the Mouse :mickeyjum

When ever we mention we’re off to good old Florida again we always get the same responses and questions. We always get the “There other places in the world to visit you know!!”, and I make them right there are but these other places they mention don’t have, a 6 foot tall mouse and pals/ a castle/ pineapple dole floats/ a princess for the guys/ a prince for the girls/ good food/ warm weather/ good shopping and of course all my fellow DISer’s and Disney fans alike who share in the wonder and amazement that only Disney can bring to our lives.:woohoo:
Also how funny is it that they never complain about the the postcard or Disney t-shirt that they get bought for them as a present!!!!! :thumbsup2

We got back on Sunday and are already making plans to book for next year. Also thinking about joining my parents in August when they go! I've got my boyfriend hooked on Disney now :) His parents think we're crazy!

I was in a meeting just over a week ago and over dinner we were talking about holidays. When I mentioned we were going to Disneyworld people sitting nearby started laughing. They're really nice people so it wasn't done in a nasty way - they were just completely incredulous that that was how we two adults spend our holidays. Then came the questions: "Do you go on the rides"? D'uh!!! "Do you wear Mickey ears"? Each response was greeted with howls of laughter. I don't mind - I never understood until I went for the first time and then, as we all know, you're hooked for life. The ones I really can't understand are people like my SIL who says:"But what do you do for 2 weeks?" and they've been to WDW and still don't get it. Now that's seriously weird!!:sad2:

Most of my friends basically think we are nuts as at the moment we go to Disney (DLRP or WDW) every year (although we do go on other holidays too). Were even planning on getting married in WDW next December! I don't really care what people think as it makes us happy - but we do like to visit other places too :goodvibes

I know people who've been to Orlando and didn't like it, one woman at the bf's work said they spent the whole time queuing and eating rubbish. Of course they didn't get to the parks for opening or even close or look into food options outside of the fast food burger type places. I think if you're used to very relaxed beach holidays, as many are, it can be a bit of a culture shock to go somewhere where you really need to do some sort of planning and structure your days at least a bit to get the most out of it aswell as being 'on the go' a lot more than they may be used to. On the other hand my dad is very active and he hated Orlando, but then again all of his 'usual' holidays focus around rock climbing (put it this way: He went to Las Vegas and never set foot on the strip, spent the whole time at Red Rock Canyon) so he's probably one of the few people not part of Orlando's target audience ;) I think my Disney planning has benefitted my other holiday destinations aswell as I now do a similar sort of plan for those: Stuff like getting addresses of restaurants, attractions etc and buying tickets beforehand when I can :)

I think we forget there are people who don't like Orlando or they do like it once but no desire to go back.
My Brother has been 2 or 3 times, going again next month but for conferences, he is there for a week this time but no intentions of going in Disney, worst place on Earth to him, but he goes to Vegas more than I goto Florida, he loves Vegas and gambling.
My Uncle has been twice but doubt he will go back, his fave type of hol is 5* all incl in Cancun or similar, doing nothing for a week.
Glad people don't like it or it would be way too busy for us.:goodvibes

tracipierce - thanks for the desktop, going to do that later!

Some of the replies have been making me laugh, especially diberry's SIL comment about what to do for 2 weeks! Oh my lord, 2 weeks doesn't come close to being long enough! I had hoped we could go for longer this summer, but the cost, along with work, made it difficult.

My friend recently went to DLRP for a couple of days. Now, admittedly, it's not Florida, but her reaction was "it's just another theme park". She has 2 young boys (6 and 2) and just didn't seem to get into the spirit of it at all. It was as though she had just been to the local park!

I am getting more excited every day, and am enjoying looking at my countdown calendar - we are down to 6 million and a few seconds now, yesterday it was 7 million and a few seconds! :rotfl2:
