My friends: please share your strength and courage with me

I debated for quite awhile about posting this. I hate sounding all needy.

The truth is that I need your strength and courage and prayers.

My husband has been diagnosed with cancer of the right kidney. He will have an angiogram on Monday and then on Friday, 11/18 he will have a radical nephrectomy.

I know that he can live well with one kidney. The cancer part is so terrifying, though.

If you don't pray will you think good thoughts for us? Please share your strength with me. I'm terrified.

My uncle has the same thing. I say has, as he's had it for over 5 years with no treatment!! They decided not to do the surgery because he had other health problems.

It can be a slower moving cancer, and depending on a different factors, the prognosis can be quite good.

Having had cancer in my family recently, I know you are worried. But it worked out for us (in both cases) and I'm hoping it works out for you.

Cancer is an awful word, I don't blame you for feeling fearful......but cancer is also NOT the death sentence it used to be. In fact, a cancer diagnoses has made my mother much healthier. They removed her tumor and her body began to function normally once again!

My prayers of courage, strength and hope are with you Katholyn.
Prayers go with your DH's doctors and surgeons too, that they have steady hands and eyes like eagles.

I will be rooting for your husband. As someone who has survived one type of cancer, I KNOW it can be beat. You've always been so kind to me during all my medical ups-and-downs, I hope I can be the same to you. I will keep your husband in my thoughts. I'll do some "worrying" for him to since I am so good at it!

I am glad to hear surgery is scheduled.

Do you have someone who can go & "wait" with you? My dh said that was the hardest part on my 7 hour surgery. Thank God his Dad came & sat with him for a good part of it.

Being the caregiver takes a toll on you (dh's words). Be kind to yourself, try (the emphasis is try ) and eat when you can, take time to take that long shower, don't answer every phone call (that's what am's are for) & if you can send an update via email.
