My husband and I are currently planning a trip to Disney in September, and I was very excited. We were looking to book ASAP for September 3rd-8th (Wednesday - Monday...hopefully missing the labor day crowds ;) ), but just as I have started doing my happy dance a bunch of my friends are killing it!

See, I am finishing up my bachelors degree, and this fall will be my last semester. I will be taking 4 classes two days a week. My husband is a school teacher and gets 3 personal days a year. Our friends are saying we are INSANE for taking off during school to go on our Disney vacation. Is this really that bad?:confused3

Anyone have experience with this or something similar?

Hey Pixiedust1, I personally have not had an experience like this but if it were me, I would go to Disney. I don't listen to what other people have to say anyway. It's only a couple of days. Go and enjoy yourselves.:thumbsup2
Congratulations on the bachelors degree.:cheer2:

yes! I would NOT advise missing college classes for disney. I missed like 3 classes. And that was no big deal. but i got really sick later in the semester and had to drop all of my classes because I had missed to many days. Either go during the summer or thanksgiving or after final exams. i will never miss school for disney again. Sorry to disappoint you. But if going to disney means i have to be in school longer then i'll plan for a different week.

I think that it all depends on what type of classes you will be taking at the time. I am also in college finishing up my Bachelor's degree (graduating this May!), so I understand your situation. I am taking my last nine hours (3 classes) this semester and I could get away for three days provided that I did most of my work before I left. If there are tests scheduled that week, it might be hard to make them up. You could possibly talk to your prof.'s and tell them that you will be out of town for a few days and see what they say. If it just seems too complicated, wait until the end of the semester and celebrate your graduation at WDW with your husband during his time off for the Christmas holidays. That may be your best bet. Good luck!

DH is in college now and will be taking a week off to go at Easter. His professors already know and understand he has a family and has commitments to us first. I say do it.

I missed a week during my nursing clinicals for my bachelor's degree. I'd do it again in a hearbeat! I don't remember much from that particular semester's worth of lectures, but I'll always remember that week spent with my husband, kids and parents enjoying our first trip to WDW!:lovestruc

If you feel that you can do it, then go. I agree with a poster's friend, "you only live once." If you feel you can only go during that one time, then go for it. I'm assuming you are hoping for the free dining? You also mentioned that you will be only going to school 2 days a week. Are these Tue/Thur classes (then you would only miss one day, not to bad) Even if they are Mon/Wed classes you would only miss 2 days.

True, that you might get sick later on or have a family emergency, but if you you have a doctor's note or documentation a lot of schools will give you an extension (though it is not guaranteed.)

Have fun!

I am in the "live for today mode" but it is a personal decision. When I was in Nursing School we were not allowed to miss that much time. I would have been kicked out of the program.

the only way I wouldn't go is if it meant your were gonna get your bachlors, other wise I say go, have fun you deserve it

I find people are "haters" anyway when they find out you are spending your money and time for Disney. Dont read anything into it. You have worked hard for this you deserve it, just brush it off and spend your time planning your future!

I'm in that same boat now...I'm planning my 40th birthday trip for October, but my clinical is on Saturday so we're planning on leaving after my clinical and returning before my next class day (Thursday). As far as work goes I just take off - it IS Disney!!!!!
We were all told on the first day of school, "If you got stomach problems and you're thinking about missing class, you better take a dose of Pepto Bismol and get on over here..." They also told us that if you miss a class, you're out of the program.
During my A&P, microbiology and other classes, it was no biggie - I took off for my Disney. But this nursing program is a different situation!

OP - Do what YOU want:banana: and have fun doing it:banana:
YOU GO, BANANA!!!

don't let the haters rain on your disney parade

I love disney:cloud9: and I believe if you want to do this you do it and if you guys know you can make it work then DO IT and forget the rest you know you will have fun!!!!:ccat: :donald: :dumbo: :sulley: :tigger:

you gotta go see your friends !!! :lmao: just make sure you know you wont fall behind in school

GO FOR IT is my vote!!!!

Why is it any of their business when you take a vacation? :confused3
It's your life; tell your friends to get one of their own...

trust your own instincts,do what you want to do:thumbsup2

The Haters.....I think that term is so funny:lmao:
So simple and so explanatory!
Yeah! Those Haters are just Jealous that you've found something that gives you so much joy!
That you're not embarrassed to feel/act like a kid, or embarrassed that going down to a "kid park" is beneath you!
Who the heck wants to just sit on a beach like a rock and do nothing just because it's "more adult-like"?
Free to be you and me!!!!
You love it no matter what anyone thinks!!!
:rockband: ROCK ON!!!!:disrocks:

I just returned from a Spring Break Week and the are Haters out--BIG TIME :sad1: . One of my family members had the nerve to say

"Take your family out, there is stuff to do just to be with them. You don’t have to pay for 3 hotels and go to Disney whatever, be with your family, it’ll be fun. We didn’t have any money when we were growing up but we did spend Sundays driving all over the place, and it was memorable" :confused3

As if -- I went withOUT my family:rolleyes1

For some reason this really bothered me, because like th previous poster, I too have spent my entire life trying to please everyone, and not rock the boat, but to heck with that....its my $$ and I'll Disney with my family if I want to!!!:dance3:

This is SOO true! They don't have anything in their life that they can look forward to or get excited about so they have to rain on your parade. It makes them feel better to drag you down.

Make your own decision about whether you should go or not. You can decide if it's OK to miss a couple of days - and if it is - GO FOR THE TRIP! (And then don't expect anyone but DIS'ers to understand!)
